The results show that during this period, the annual mean values of energy saving is 1.23×10^6 tce, and direct emission reduction of CO2, soot, SO2, CO, NOx and CnHm are 4.267×10^6 t, 20.5×10^3 t, 3.0×10^3 t, 9.6×10^3 t, 67.9×10^3 t, and 6.9×10^3 t per year, respectively. The annual average increasing rates of energy saving is 139×10^3 tce, and direct emission reduction of CO2, soot, SO2, CO, NOx and CnHm are 483×10^3 t, 2.3×10^3 t, 0.34×10^3 t, 1.1×10^3 t, 7.7 ×10^3 t and 0.78×10^3 t per year, respectively. Calorific values of several types of municipal solid wastes were determined and related to specific incinerability indexes. The incinerability testing concerning this study was conducted on residues with an incinerability index (II) of 123. The samples were tested under different conditions: with and without chamber preheating, varying the percentage of inlet air (25, 50 and 75% of the system capacity), measuring the temperatures of the primary and secondary chambers, and gauging the CO and NO stack emissions with an electrochemical cell. With comparative purposes in mind, samples with indexes ofI = 112, I = 123, I = 130 and I = 132 were also tested to assess the influence of the II on pollutant emissions.展开更多

As set in the new emission standard, the limitations of SO2 and NOX for sensitive areas under normal conditions are 50 mg/m3 and 100 mg/m3, respectively. The objective analysis and suggestions are proposed. The recent status and operational experience of desulfurization and denitrification equipment are discussed. From the discussions, thermal power plants face a huge challenge to satisfy the new emission standards. For further reducing of the emission concentrations of SO2 and NOX, three methods were introduced, including: seriously implementing the emission standards, improving treatment equipment, and increasing the efficiencies of desulfurization and denitrification.展开更多

The paper proposes a method for selection of appropriate decontamination techniques which may be used at Cernavoda NPP decommissioning, equipped with CANDU heavy water reactors, based on the simulation with ProVision software. The paper has a singular focus on physical decontamination techniques and does not address other aspects of decommissioning. The physical decontamination techniques which are the best for certain areas of the CANDU-6 NPP from point of view of effectiveness and cost were determined. A unit cost for each decontamination technique was determined by relating the total cost to the average surface to be decontaminated. In conclusion, physical techniques will apply more efficiently to concrete surfaces. The chemical decontamination methods, in comparison with physical decontamination methods are. more suitable for non-porous surfaces respectively metal and are less recommended for concrete surfaces.展开更多

For the electricity production from 500 MW to 1,000 MW or more, the coal-fired thermal and nuclear power plants with uranium have proved competitive and with a high level of reliability and maturation, besides presenting the fuel supply security. This paper presents an analysis of technical feasibility for the choice of the best technology for generating electricity on a large scale, based on coal-fired thermal or nuclear power plant using uranium. This paper takes in account the availability of fuel sources, investments costs, thermal power generation systems, pollutants emission and mitigation technologies, global efficiency, fuel consumption, costs of electricity, construction time and an average lifespan of the installation. Thus the analysis allows the most rational choice of technology for the production of electricity with lower electricity costs and lower COz emissions.展开更多

Experiments with different doses of polyacrylamide(PAM) and polymeric ferric sulfate(PFS) at different pH values were carried out, and the advanced purification by activated carbon(AC) was conducted. Compared with PFS, the better coagulant for removal efficiency is PAM, under the optimal conditions, the removals of Pb2+, Zn2+, Cu2+ and COD reduction from solution were 94.8%, 79.9%, 87.6% and 85%, respectively. In the advanced purification, the particle size of activated carbon and agitation time played important roles in the removal efficiency. Each pollute concentration could meet the emission standard of pollutants for lead and zinc industry(GB25466—2010). The wastewater without treatment affected galena and sphalerite electrochemical behaviors greatly, after treatment by the technology, the effects disappeared, which proved the reliability of the technology for wastewater treatment.展开更多

Using official Japanese data on pollutant emissions during the accident, this study simulates the dispersion of nuclear pollutants. The source term of the nuclear leakage of radioactive material is designed using PM2.5 as the tracer of radioactive pollutants, and the study considers dry and wet deposition processes. A coupled-model system is constructed from the air-quality model Models-3/CMAQ and the Weather Research and Forecasting atmospheric model. The transport path and distribution of radioactive pollutants over long and short distances are simulated with different model horizontal resolutions of 30 and 4 km respectively. The long-distance simulation shows that, following the Fukushima nuclear accident, under the effect of westerly winds, radioactive pollutants are transported generally towards the eastern Pacific and reach the American continent after 5 days, but their concentration is only about 10-7 times the concentration near the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. The time required for pollutants to reach the United States is basically consistent with measurements made in California on March 18. Because the upper westerly wind is faster than the lower westerly wind, the distribution of pollutants tilts eastward in terms of its vertical structure. The short-distance (local) highresolution simulation indicates that strong winds and precipitation associated with a cyclone can accelerate the deposition, dif- fusion and transport of pollutions, and local cyclonic circulation can change the transport path of pollutants, even resulting in repeated effects of pollution in some areas. Pollutants disperse to southeastern Honshu, Japan, on March 14, 2011, agreeing well with the timing of local observations of increases in the absorbed dose rate. Results also show that radioactive pollutants from the Fukushima nuclear accident are mainly transported and diffuse eastward, resulting in a relatively short-term impact on the Japanese mainland even under the influence of the cyclone system. Therefore, in terms of atmospheric conditions, the location of the Fukusbima Nuclear Power Plant is appropriate and could serve as a reference to site selection and protection of other nuclear facilities.展开更多

The reactions in water phase may have the potential to realize clean and efficient energy conversion and utilization. Coal gasification in supercritical water is a typical carbon-based fuel conversion process in water phase, and it takes the advantages of the unique chemical and physical properties of supercritical water to convert organic matter in coal to H2 and CO2. N, S, P, Hg and other elements are deposited as inorganic salts to avoid pollution emission. The State Key Laboratory of Multiphase Flow in Power Engineering has obtained extensive experimental and theoretical results based on coal gasification in supercritical water. Supercritical water fluidized bed reactor was developed for coal gasification and seven kinds of typical feedstock were selected. The hydrogen yield covers from 0.67 to 1.74 Nm3/kg and the carbon gasification efficiency is no less than 97%. This technology has a bright future in industrialization not only in electricity generation but also in hydrogen production and high value-added chemicals. Given the gas yield obtained in laboratory-scale unit, the hydrogen production cost is U.S.$ 0.111 Nm3 when the throughput capacity is 2000 t/d. A novel thermodynamic cycle power generation system based on coal gasification in supercritical water was proposed with the obvious advantages of high coal-electricity conversion efficiency and zero pollutant emission. The cost of U.S.$ 3.69 billion for desulfuration, denitration and dust removal in China in 2013 would have been saved with this technology. Five kinds of heat supply methods are analyzed and the rates of return of investment are roughly estimated. An integrated cooperative innovation center called a new type of high-efficient coal gasification technology and its large-scale utilization was founded to enhance the industrialization of the technology vigorously.展开更多
