The aim of this study was to evaluate zoledronic acid and pamidronic acid on treating ostealgia of malignant tumor with bone metastases and serum calcium, phosphorus and alkaline phosphorus movement. Methods: One Hundred cancer patients with bone metastases were diagnosed according to pathological and imaging methods. After zoledronic acid or pamidronic acid intravenous infusion one and two months, ostealgia degree, serum calcium, serum phosphorus and alkaline phosphorus were observed before bisphosphonates treatment, one and two months after treatment, respectively. Results: Ostealgia degree did not change significantly after diphosphonates treatment from one to two months (P 〉 0.05). The linear correlation between serum calcium and serum phosphorus on bone metastases cancer patients before therapy was dismissed after bisphosphonates treatment one month and did not recover in two months. The incidence of hypo-calcium after diphosphonate treatment one month (54%) and two months (56%) were significantly increased than that before treatment (36%) (X2 = 6.55, P = 0.011; X2 = 8.05, P = 0.005). Serum calcium and serum phosphorus were both decreased after treatment one month (t = 4.39, P = 0.000; t = 2.50, P = 0.014) and two months (t = 4.32, P = 0.000; t = 2.49, P = 0.010). There had no difference between zoledronic acid and pamidronic acid on treating of ostealgia and serum calcium and phosphorus changing. Conclusion: Zoledronic acid and pamidronic acid can relief ostealgia of cancer patients with bone metastases and induce hypo-calcium, break the linear relationship between calcium and phosphorus. There have no difference between zoledronic acid and pamidronic acid on treating ostealgia and inducing hypo-calcium and hypo-phosphorus.展开更多

Preclinical data have suggested synergy between capecitabine and temozolomide(CAPTEM). Therefore, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of CAPTEM in patients with metastatic NECs who have failed prior therapies. Methods A retrospective review was conducted on seven patients with metastatic NECs for whom platinum-based chemotherapies and hepatic chemoembolization failed. Patients received capecitabine(1000 mg twice daily on days 1-14) and temozolomide(150–200 mg/m^2 once daily on days 10–14) every 28 days. Tumor assessments were performed every two cycles. Results Among the seven patients treated, two achieved partial remission and four achieved stable disease. The total response rate was 29%, and the clinical benefit was 86%. Median progression-free survival was 10(range: 8–14) months. The most common toxicities were grade 1 and 2 neutropenia, grade 1 fatigue, and grade 1 and 2 hand-foot syndrome. No grade 4 toxicities or treatment-related deaths were observed. Conclusion Our study showed that the CAPTEM regimen is an effective and well-tolerated salvage option for NECs. Further prospective studies are warranted to evaluate optimal combinations of the CAPTEM regimen for NECs.展开更多

Methods: This study is follow-up of a prior publication, with new observations in comparison with control subjects. A total of 16 subjects were divided into two groups. Group I comprised 8 seropositive rheumatoid arthritis patients who were analysed for the primary end point of possible cytotoxic effects of rituximab and methotrexate. Group II included 8 healthy individuals who served as controls. Assessment was done before treatment with rituximab, and 4 weeks after initiation of therapy. Patients were randomly assigned to receive infusion of rituximab in a full dose of 2.0 g divided into two doses of 1.0 g on days I and 15. The lymphocytes from periphereal blood was cultured by the Moorhead method. Results: Normal male and female Karyograms were observed after full courses of therapy with rituximab. In one female patient who had been receiving longstanding cytotoxic therapy with methotrexate, 2% of chromosomal mitosis showed structural abnormalities. Following the discontinuation of methotrexate and the administration of rituximab, her karyogram became normal. Conclusion: The results from this study indicated that rituximab therapy was safe for the number and structure of human chromosomes, while methotrexate showed chromosomal aberration in one female RA patient. After discontinuation of this longstanding treatment, the karyogram of the same patient returned to normal.展开更多

In this work, Janus-type γ-Fe2 O3/SiO2 nanoparticles(JFSNs) are conjugated with glucose oxidase(GOx) for synergistic cancer starvation/chemodynamic therapy. The γ-Fe2O3 hemisphere of JFSNs can perform photoacoustic/T2 magnetic resonance dual-modal imaging of tumors.GOx on the surface of JFSNs catalyzes the decomposition of glucose and produces H2O2 for cancer starvation therapy. Subsequently, the γ-Fe2O3 hemisphere catalyzes the disproportionation of H2O2 to generate highly reactive hydroxyl radicals in an acidic tumor microenvironment. The close distance between GOx and JFSNs ensures adequate contact between the γ-Fe2O3 hemisphere and its substrate H2O2, thus enhancing the catalytic efficiency. This synergy of glucose depletion, biotoxic H2O2 and hydroxyl radicals significantly suppresses 4 T1 mammary tumor growth with minimal adverse effects.展开更多

Non- union in children has not been reported before in literature. We report a case of a 12-year-old boy who had a nonunion of Hawkins type II fracture of talar neck. The nonunion was treated surgically with a good clinical outcome. The goalsof management in nonunion of paediatric talar neck fracture are different from those in fresh fractures. A suboptimal re- duction should be acceptable without trying a radical sur- gery which may cause further impairment.展开更多

In this study, the efficiency of hyperthermia therapy was investigated by the skin hyperthermia device. The survival rate of cercariae decreased from 68.15 % (37 ℃, 5 min) to 0 (49℃, 10 min) with the thermal dosages increased, which proved the preventing effect of hyperthermia therapy (P 〈 0.05). Therapeutic effects were assessed in Schistosoma japonicum-infected BALB/c mice. When the cercarial contact region of the skin was treated at 45-49℃ for 5 min within 8 h of infection, worm reduction rate (WRR) reached 74 %-83 % (P 〈 0.01). The sensitivity of adult schistosoma to heat was also investigated using microwave intraperitoneal hyperthermia (thermal dosages 42-43℃, 20 min). The WRR, hepatic shift rates and egg reduction rates were 23.7 %, 40 % and 30 %, respectively, comparing with 80.2 %, 59.6 % and 53.9 % of praziquantel (PZQ)-treated group. Encouraging results have been obtained that hyperthermia can effectively kill schistosomula, especially with the appearance of cercarial dermatitis, while PZQ lacks efficacy against the cercariae. Thus, hyperthermia therapy would show significant benefit in preventing and treatment of schistosoma, especially in the early stage.展开更多
