He mentioned the language as a form of "doing" rather than a form of "knowing". He believes that language is what it is because it has to serve certain function. In other words, social demands on language have helped to shape its structure. This theory distinguishes linguistic behavior potential from actual linguistic behavior. That means the speaker can do many things in certain language: making an invitation, expressing hope, inquiry, agreement, refuse and etc. Therefore EFL teaching is to develop the abilities to communicate with others, that is, listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. Thus teacher's task has changed to construct and arrange learning environment. In this environment, student is planner, monitor and also evaluator; while teacher acts as administrator, organizer, catalyst, facilitator, consultant, diagnostician, guide, and model of learning instead of the source of knowledge, the disseminator of knowledge and the implanter in the learning process. Forests are threatened by a lot of dangers and all of us have to contribute to the fight for their survival. The methodology of school research on pine woods which is described below, aims to cultivate more sensitive, educated and activated students, by accordingly specialized teachers who are going to organize the educational background, also to decide techniques and materials for the easiest and most effective learning, for the cultivation of values, attitudes and friendly behaviors towards forests. The suggested methodology is based on the findings of a European Comenius Program and two Programs of Environmental Education. The research usually takes place in a pine land, by using a worksheet as experimental tool, and focuses on the vitality of the trees, the biodiversity, the effects of pollution and other cultural elements related to the pine bio-community. There is also a lot of informative discussion and research over cultural, social and economical factors with locals and specialists. 展开更多

As we enter the 21st century, acquisition of vocabulary has assumed a more important role, and as some would argue, it has assumed the central role in learning a second language. On one hand, students have a strong desire to improve their English level in order to make them more adaptable when they step into this competitive society after graduation. On the other hand, most students are facing a great difficulty in learning a large number of vocabularies though they do spend a lot of time and energy on it. Also, recent researches show that students don't like the classroom that is still teacher-centered and lecture-based. They want to be more involved in class and more responsible for their own studies. Hence, it is important to equip students with necessary strategies for dealing with vocabulary learning activities. In this paper, three strategies are recommended: extensive listening & reading and contextual guesswork, communicative activities and group-work and the use of dictionary. 展开更多

This study explores the origins and current status of the Gallo language at school--a minority language spoken in the eastern part of Brittany--among older speakers (group 1-41 informants) and students of Gallo (group 2-17 informants). The paper discusses different pedagogical methods, learning materials, and learners' status. The most important mission of schools is to increase public awareness about their linguistic environment which helps reassert minority identity through language acquisition and linguistic maintenance. Implementing an educational language curriculum for regional languages constitutes a main step towards the preservation of linguistic minorities. According to the informants interviewed during the fieldwork, both groups express positive reactions towards the presence of Gallo at school (group 1--80%; group 2--92.9%). However, in follow-up discussions, a certain number of older speakers seem to be more reluctant, because the variety of Gallo taught at school is different from the one which was transmitted to them. In conclusion, bilingual and immersion programs are increasingly successful in Brittany and could lead to a wider recognition of Eastern Brittany's language and culture. 展开更多

The education of prospective teachers should be based on ecological approach, which ensures the ecological perspective and an opportunity for students to develop their readiness to integrate into the school environment. The main aim of the author's research is to substantiate mentoring as an interaction system for the facilitation of the prospective teachers' readiness to integrate into the school environment. The author of this paper offers the results of her theoretical research: substantiation of mentoring's importance in teachers' education, substantiation of mentors' roles and functions, and substantiation of ecological approach in teachers' education. Ecological approach in teachers' education facilitates the formation of friendly attitude toward a school as an educational environment. Mentoring provides the prospective teachers' readiness to the professional activity and ability to successful integration in various types of school environment, considering their specificity.
