[Method] Extracted by microwave-assisted hydrodistil ation (MAHD), aroma constituents of essential oils of Chimonanthus praecox flowers were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Normalization method was used to determine the constituents quantitatively. [Result] Total y 27 compounds were identified, accounting for 98.85% of total amounts. The main aroma con-stituents are terpenes, aldehydes, esters, alcohols and hydrocarbons. Main compo-nents with relative percentage over 5% are germacrene D (25.62%), bornyl acetate (16.71%), caryophyl ene (10.51%), cis-α-ocimene (5.18%), γ-elemene (8.05%), β-linalool (5.01%), 1-ethenyl-1-methyl-2,4-bis (1-methylethenyl)-cyclohexane (7.18%) and 2,3,4,4α,5,6-hexahydro-1,4αdimethyl-7-(1-methylethyl)-naphthalene (5.20%). [Conclu-sion] The study provided a theoretical reference for the development and utilization of Chimonanthus praecox resources.展开更多

This paper argues that the novelist Jonathan Littell's critically acclaimed best-seller The Kindly Ones (2010) provocatively revalorizes and builds upon these two aspects of Arendt's study: Firstly, it posits her theory of banality as a challenge to the comforting presupposition that terrible evils can only be committed by a minority of monstrous individuals, by suggesting instead that "normal" readers share the same capacity to commit atrocities as Nazis such as Eichmann. Secondly, the novel nuances Arendt's damning indictment of Jewish collaboration by regarding it as the inevitable consequence of the terrible predicament faced by Jews at that time. Finally, the paper concludes with Littell's consideration of banality as a phenomenon that not only invites an uncomfortable moral self-analysis, but also legitimises a return to a justice system based on the ancient Greek model.展开更多

These benefits are expressed in monetary units by using the CVM (Contingent Valuation Method). The maintenance of the urban environment often entails excessive costs paid by the people through taxation. A city free of aesthetic pollution results in an increase in tourism. A portion of taxation paid by the citizens is allocated to cleaning the city. An increase in tourism provides the government with additional revenue through VAT (Value Added Taxes). The main findings show that in a large proportion, 28% of the interviewees are willing to pay, but those that are willing to pay significant amounts tend to prefer mild interventions to the buildings, while those (42%) that agree with minimal to null amount demand radical intervention. The latter group, also, considers any contribution of theirs to restoration as unfair, judging that this expenditure should be covered exclusively by the State. Last but not least, from a sociopsychological point of view, this attitude could be attributed to extreme personalities which tend to prefer more holistic and direct solutions (i.e., no mixed strategy involving people and the State is acceptable by interviewees who considered themselves as having no further obligations after regular tax-paying); as a result, they think that the State is exclusively responsible to resolve the situation.展开更多

As the three poles are in a constant negotiations, then each of them should prevail over the other two, thus be introduced in the bargaining problem. Bargaining behavior must therefore be defined. The suggested "'win-win-win papakonstantinidis model" (coming from Nash win-win extended approach) tries to find ways for the three-pole bargaining conceptual equilibrium, under conditions, thus maximizing expected utilities for all the involved parts in local decision-making by applying a combination of Descriptive Behavior (DB), Rational Choice, Instrumental Rationality, and the Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) methodologies, then an updating community's behavioral state is expected, thus transforming the technical territory-community perception to a behavioral community perception, by sensitizing its population, towards the "guanxi relations" paradigm.展开更多

We analyze the spectrum's dynamic process during the coseismic stage with the S transformation method, and discuss the spectrum's details in different seismic phases. The S transformation results of the data of seismometer and borehole strainmeter at the same station show that the coseismic spectrum evolution of the two kinds of observation are similar to each other and can be cross-referenced in indentifying the wave signals, which proves that the borehole strainmeter measurements at high frequencies are reliable.展开更多

This paper initially introduces risk assessment approaches within the emerging role of ports Thereafter, it qualitatively assesses their potential for ports by discussing issues challenging every safety and security approach within the maritime industry such as proactiveness, organization, transparency, cost-effectiveness and, when possible, calibration to specific experiences. Moreover, an empirical study was conducted in order to provide evidence for formal risk assessment for safety and security in the main Greek port container terminals of Piraeus and Thessaloniki. The empirical research is based on in-depth semi-structured interviews with the administrations of container terminals. The results include important findings, regarding the likelihood of appearance of certain risks and their perceived severity in Greek container terminals. The collected answers and their analysis are also important for confirming the suggested theoretical formal risk assessment framework for ports.展开更多

Using current European and American work as a reference point, this article explores the differences and gaps between foreign and Chinese scholars in this field of research. The author believes that on the question of the boundaries of later Greek philosophy, Chinese scholars have, through long years of exploration, come up with independent opinions and solutions that differ from those of their European and Ameriean counterparts, and that they have a better grasp of the distinctive features of later Greek philosophy. Their work, however, clearly falls short with regard to historical source material. As far as methodology is concerned, there is a clear tendency towards convergence between Chinese scholars and their foreign colleagues.展开更多
