Results show that when the returned sludge ratio is 50% of the inflow rate, the step-feeding process achieves over 80% total nitrogen (TN) removal efficiency, but the TN removal efficiency of the A/O process is only 40%. Moreover, filamentous sludge bulking can be well restrained in the step-feeding process. Given the conditions of a returned sludge ratio of 100% and a nitrifying liquor recycle ratio of 200%, the TN removal efficiency is 78.32% in the A/O process, but the sludge volume index (SVI) value increases to 143 mL/g. In the step-feeding process, the SVI is only 94.4 mL/g when the TN removal efficiency reaches 81. 1%. The step-feeding process has distinct advantages over the A/O process in the aspects of practicability, nitrogen removal and operating stability.展开更多

The use of SPO can lower the cost ofbiodiesel production significantly. In this study biodiesel fuel was produced from SPO by esterification process using P-toluenesulfonic acid (PTSA) as acid catalyst in different dosages in presence of methanol to convert free fatty acid (FFA) to fatty acid methyl ester (FAME). Batch esterification process of SPO was carried out to study the influence of PTSA dosage (0.25-10% wt/wt), molar ratio of methanol to SPO (6:1-20:1), temperature (40-80 ℃), reaction time (30-120 min). The effects of those parameters on the yield of crude biodiesel and conversion of FFA to FAME were monitored. The optimum condition for batch esterification process was 0.75% wt/wt, 10:1 molar ratio, 60 ℃ temperature and 60 minutes reaction time.展开更多

DSC (differential scanning calorimeter) has been used to determine the thermal properties of latent heat of melting and heat capacity for composite PCMs. Vacuum impregnation pressure of 40 in.Hg, paraffin melting temperature of 90℃, vacuum time and impregnation time of paraffin of 30 min are the optimum condition of composite PCMs productions. The values of latent heat of melting and heat capacity are 74.00 J/g and 15.726 J/g.℃ for composite PCMs that produces by the optimum condition in vacuum impregnation process. Increasing the amount of composite PCMs replacing for cement in mortars causes the compressive strength, flexural strength and tensile strength reduction. Compressive strength, flexural strength and tensile strength of mortar with and without composite PCMs can be increased by the longer time of water curing for mortar specimens. Thermal conductivity (k) of mortar cement is reduced by increasing the amount of composite PCMs which replaced for cement in mortar plate compositions. Composite PCMs have the efficiency for thermal energy insulation when incorporated into the buildings. Therefore, this property of paraffin/fly ash composites PCMs can reduce the energy consumption for temperature control in the buildings.展开更多
