We study the problem of humanactivity recognition from RGB-Depth(RGBD)sensors when the skeletons are not available.The skeleton tracking in Kinect SDK workswell when the human subject is facing thecamera and there are...We study the problem of humanactivity recognition from RGB-Depth(RGBD)sensors when the skeletons are not available.The skeleton tracking in Kinect SDK workswell when the human subject is facing thecamera and there are no occlusions.In surveillance or nursing home monitoring scenarios,however,the camera is usually mounted higher than human subjects,and there may beocclusions.The interest-point based approachis widely used in RGB based activity recognition,it can be used in both RGB and depthchannels.Whether we should extract interestpoints independently of each channel or extract interest points from only one of thechannels is discussed in this paper.The goal ofthis paper is to compare the performances ofdifferent methods of extracting interest points.In addition,we have developed a depth mapbased descriptor and built an RGBD dataset,called RGBD-SAR,for senior activity recognition.We show that the best performance isachieved when we extract interest points solely from RGB channels,and combine the RGBbased descriptors with the depth map-baseddescriptors.We also present a baseline performance of the RGBD-SAR dataset.展开更多

There is no definition of national rejuvenation: nobody knows what it will look like. According to the Chinese leadership, the future models must be found from domestic soil and tradition. Traditionally, China was seen as a civilization at the center of All-Under- Heaven, a non-hegemonic power which relied to force only in order to protect itself against outside aggression. There are two upcoming centennials that serve as major milestones along the way to the rejuvenation, namely the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party in 2021, and the establishment of the People's Republic in 2049. The celebrations then will reveal if China follows this ancient tradition of benevolence, peacefulness and wisdom.展开更多

Methods: Artificial cerebrospinal fluid with carnosine was directly administrated over the exp...Objective: To directly examine the effects ofcarnosine on neuronal excitation and inhibition in rat hippocampus in vivo. Methods: Artificial cerebrospinal fluid with carnosine was directly administrated over the exposed rat hippocampus. The changes of neuron activity in the CA1 region of hippocampus were evaluated by orthodromically- and antidromically-evoked potentials, as well as paired-pulse stimulation paradigm. Results: In both orthodromic and antidromic response potentials, carnosine transformed population spikes (PSs) with single spike into epileptiform multiple spikes. In addition, similar to the effect of 7-aminobutyric acidA (GABAA) antagonist picrotoxin, camosine decreased paired-pulse stimulating depression significantly. However, no significant change was observed in the spontaneous field potentials during the application of carnosine. Conclusion: The results indicate a disinhibition-induced excitation effect of carnosine on the CA1 pyramidal neurons. It provides important information against the application of carnosine as a potential anticonvulsant in clinical treatment.展开更多
