Numerical simulation and optimization of red mud separation thickener with self-dilute feed 被引量:4

In order to acquire the flow pattern and investigate the settling behavior of the red mud in the separation thickener,computational fluid dynamics(CFD),custom subroutines and agglomerates settling theory were employed to simulate the three-dimensional flow field in an industrial scale thickener with the introduction of a self-dilute feed system.The simulation results show good agreement with the measurement onsite and the flow patterns of the thickener are presented and discussed on both velocity and concentration field.Optimization experiments on feed well and self-dilute system were also carried out,and indicate that the optimal thickener system can dilute the solid concentration in feed well from 110 g/L to 86 g/L which would help the agglomerates' formation and improve the red mud settling speed.Furthermore,the additional power of recirculation pump can be saved and flocculants dosage was reduced from 105g/t to 85g/t in the operation. 展开更多

In recent years, hysteretic phenomena in fluid flow systems drew attention for their great variety of industrial and engineering applications. When the high-pressure gas is exhausted to atmosphere from the nozzle exit, the expanded supersonic jet with the Mach disk is formed at a specific condition. In two-dimensional expanded supersonic jet, the hysteresis phenomenon for the reflection type of shock wave is occurred under the quasi-steady flow and the transitional pressure ratio between the regular reflection and Mach reflection is affected by this phe- nomenon. However, so far, there are very few researches for the hysteretic phenomenon of shock wave in a supersonic internal flow and the phenomenon has not been investigated satisfactorily. The present study was concemed with the experimental and numerical investigations of hysteretic phenomena of shock wave in a supersonic nozzle, and discussed the relationship between hysteresis phenomenon and rate of the change of pressure ratio with time. 展开更多

Fluid flow obeys Darcy–Forchheimer porous medium. A bidirectional nonlinear stretching surface generates the flow. Convective surface condition of heat transfer is taken into consideration. Further the zero nanoparticles mass flux condition is imposed at the boundary. Effects of thermophoresis and Brownian diffusion are considered. Assumption of boundary layer has been employed in the problem formulation. Convergent series solutions for the nonlinear governing system are established through the optimal homotopy analysis method(OHAM). Graphs have been sketched in order to analyze that how the velocity, temperature and concentration distributions are affected by distinct emerging flow parameters. Skin friction coefficients and local Nusselt number are also computed and discussed. 展开更多

This paper deals with an experimental, theoretical and numerical study of a turbulent flow with separated boundary layers between a rotor and a stator. The system is not subjected to any superimposed radial flow. The periphery of the cavity is opened to the atmosphere so that the solid body rotation for infinite discs is not always observed. Emphasis was placed on develop- ment of an asymptotic approach and a step-by-step method to compute the radial distribution of the core swirl ratio and the static pressure on the stator side. The theory also includes the radial and axial velocities in the core region. The numerical simulation has been conducted with the commercial CFD code Fluent 6.1. The k- SST turbulence model is used, with the assumption of 2D-axisymmetric and steady flow. CFD validations have been performed by comparison of the numerical results with the corresponding theoretical results. Numerical and experimental results are in good agreement with analytical solutions. 展开更多
