Theory analysis and experiment results of mass flow rates conclude that the RNG k-ε model is the most suitable model. The pressure distribution in the convergent-divergent nozzle was revealed by computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulating on the turbulent flow field under different pressure conditions. The growing conditions of cavitation bubbles were shown; meanwhile, the phenomena in the experiment could be explained. The differential pres- sure between the upstream and downstream in nozzle throat section can improve the cavitating effect of cavitation water jet.展开更多

At a fixed attack angle, pressure distributions and volume fractions of vapor at different cavitation numbers were simulated, and the results on foil sections agreed well with experimental data. In addition, at the various cavitation numbers, the vapor fractions at different attack angles were also predicted. The vapor region moved towards the front of the airfoil and the length of the cavity grew with increased attack angle. The results show that this method of applying FLUENT to simulate cavitation is reliable.展开更多

The sea-state-dependent-k parameterization is expected to improve the uncertainty existing in these estimates. In the present study, the annual global sea-air CO2 flux is estimated with the sea-state-dependent-k parameterization proposed by Woolf(2005) ,using NOAA/NCEP reanalysis wind speed and hindcast wave data from 1998 to 2006,and a new estimate,-2.18 Gt C year-1,is obtained, which is comparable with previous estimates with biochemical methods. It is interesting to note that the averaged value of previous estimates with various wind-dependent-k parameterizations is almost identical to that of previous estimates with biochemical methods by various authors, and that the new estimate is quite consistent with these averaged estimates.展开更多

The numerical simulation is carried out based on Gilmore's eouations of bubble dynamics, which take account of the compressibility of fluid besides the viscosity and interfacial tension. The collapse of the cavity cloud is considered to proceed layer by layer from the outer cloud towards its inner part. The simulation results indicate that thepredicted boundaries of the cavity cloudat the collapse stage agree.well with the exPerimental ones.It is also found that the maximum collapse pressure of the cavity cloud is several times as high as the collapse pressure of outside boundary, and it is located at a point in the axis, where the cavity cloud disappears completely. This means that a cavity cloud has higher collapse pressure or strength than that of a single bubble due to the interactions of the bubbles. The effects of operation and structural parameters on the collapse pressure are also analyzed in detail.展开更多

It demonstrates that the radial profile of slug flow void fraction is parabolic. Influenced by the falling liquid film, the radial profile curve of liquid slug void fraction in the wake region is also parabolic. Since fully turbulent velocity distribution is built up in the developed region, the void fraction profile in this region is the saddle type. At given superficial liquid velocity, the liquid slug void fraction increases with gas velocity. The radial profiles of liquid slug void fraction at different axial locations are all saddle curves, but void fraction is obviously high around the centerline in the entrance region. The nearer the measuring station is from the entrance, the farther the peak location is away from the wall.展开更多

The effects of air flow, illumination time, extractants, volume ratios of extractant/fuel, and catalyst amounts on the desulfurization process of PODS were analyzed in detail. Under the conditions with the air as oxidant(150 ml·min^(-1)), the mixture of DMF–water as extractant(the volume ratio of extractant/oil of 0.5) and photo-irradiation time of 2 h, the sulfur removal rate reached only 42.63% and 39.54% for the model and FCC gasoline, respectively. Under the same conditions, the sulfur removal rate increased significantly up to79% for gasoline in the presence of Cu_2O catalyst(2 g·L^(-1)). The results suggest that the PODS combined with a Cu_2O catalyst seems to be a promising alternative for sulfur removal of gasoline.展开更多

In the present paper, firstly, some applications of the mists sprayed by the atomizer are described. Secondly, the performance of the twin-fluid atomizer with best performance was compared with those of the commercial twin-fluid MMA100 type together with the single-fluid swirl type. In the CO2 adsorption tests, mists were sprayed five minutes by the respective types in turn in a test room, and time variations of CO2 concentration in air after the introduction of CO2 in the room were measured at the bottom of the room to compare the CO2 adsorption rates by the mists for the respective cases. In addition, diameters of droplets for the respective types were measured with a microscope. As a result, superiority of our twin-fluid atomizer was confirmed, because 40% droplets were 20 to 40 μm in diameter, and the CO2 adsorption rate by the mists with our twin-fluid atomizer was 25% higher than that with the commercial ones.展开更多

Evolutions of large-scale vortex structures represented by tangential vortices are obtained and compared with flow visualization. Also presented are three-dimensional spatial evolutions of coherent structure, which are of quasi two-dimensional Kelvin-Helmholtz instability and vortex rings as well as breaking up of the vortex rings with fully three-dimensional characteristics. Predicted results of mean velocity and turbulent intensity agree well with experiments. They are also compared with the results predicted by LES using standard Smagorinsky model and show good self-similarity. Turbulence spectrum of the predicted velocity shows the -5/3 decay for higher wave number, as expected for turbulent round jet flows. In addition, fl-test and y-test are carded out for the instantaneous velocity, showing that the present LES method can successfully predict the hierarchical structure of round jet.展开更多

By solving the new motion equation using Runge-Kutta fourth order methodwith adaptive step size control, the dynamic behaviors of cavitation bubble driven by the varying pressure fielddownstream of a venturi cavitation reactor are numerically simulated. The effects of liquid temperature (correspondingto the saturated vapor pressure of liquid), cavitation number and inlet pressure of venturi on radial motionof bubble and pressure pulse due to the radial motion are analyzed and discussed in detail. Some dynamicbehaviors of bubble different from those in previous papers are displayed. In addition, the internal relationshipbetween bubble dynamics and process intensification is also discussed. The simulation results reported in thiswork reveal the variation laws of cavitation intensity with the flow conditions of liquid, and will lay a foundationfor the practical application of hydrodynamic cavitation technology.展开更多

The configurational and hydrodynamic characteristics of ventilated cavities influenced by turbulent drag-reducing additives were experimentally studied in water tunnel. The test model was fixed in the water tunnel by a strut in the aft-part. Aqueous solutions of CTAC/Na Sal(cetyltrimethyl ammonium chloride/sodium salicylate) with weight concentrations of 100, 200, 400 and 600 ppm(part per million), respectively, were injected into the ventilated air cavity from the edge of the cavitator with accurate control by an injection pump. The cavity configurations were recorded by a high-speed CCD camera. The hydrodynamic characteristics of the test model were measured by a six-component balance. Experimental results show that, within the presently tested cases, the lengths of cavity influenced by drag-reducing solution are smaller than normal condition(ventilated cavity) in water, but the asymmetry of the cavity is improved. The drag resisted by the test model is reduced dramatically(the maximum drag reduction can reach to 80%) and the re-entrant jet is more complex after the CTAC solution is injected into the cavity. Turbulent drag-reducing additives have the potential in enhancement of supercavitating asymmetry and further drag reduction.展开更多
