The characteristics of the flowfields of a synthetic jet actuator are experimentally investigated with the slot-nozzle driven by the piezoelectric membrane. The particle image velocimetry (PIV) and the hot-wire anemometer are utilized to measure the flowfields and the velocity profiles of the actuator with different actuating factors. Analytical results show that pairs of counter-rotating vortices are generated near the nozzle. With the development of the synthetic ject, the synthetic jet rapidly spreads in the slot-width direction; while in the slot-length direction, it contracts firstly and slowly spreads. The centerline velocity distribution has a up-down tendency varying with axial distances, and accelerates to its maximum at z/b= 10. The transverse velocity profile across the slot-width is centro-symmetric and self-similar. However, the velocity profiles across the slot-length are saddle-like near the nozzle. It shows that there are two resonance frequencies for the actuator. If the actuator works with the resonance frequency, the vorticity and the velocity of the synthetic jet are higher than those of other frequencies. Compared with the continuous jet, the synthetic jet shows special flow characteristics. 展开更多

Gas hydrates are solid inclusion compounds that are composed of a three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network of water cages that can trap small gas molecules, such as methane and carbon dioxide. Understanding the rheological properties of gas hydrate crystals in solution can he critical in a number of energy applications, including the transportation of natural gas in suhsea and onshore operations, as well as technological applications for gas separation, desalination, or sequestration. A number of exper- imental and modeling studies have been done on hydrate slurry rheology; however, the link between theory and experiment is not well-defined. This article provides a review on the current state of the art of hydrate slurry viscosity measurements from high- and low-pressure rheometer studies and high-pressure flowloops over a range of different sub-cooling (ATsub = TequiI Texp) and fluid conditions, including for water and oil continuous systems. The theoretical models that have been developed to describe the gas hydrate slurry relative viscosity are also reviewed. Perspectives' linkage between the experiments and theory is also discussed. 展开更多

In this paper, in order to investigate the viscoelasticity of asphalt binder at the softening point temperature, more than 30 different asphalt binders were selected and tested by dynamic rheological scan method using a dynamic shear rheometer(DSR). The softening points and the rheological parameters of the asphalt samples were measured and analyzed. The results indicated that at the softening point temperature the neat asphalt and the SBS modified asphalt showed two different rheological states. The neat asphalt binders had a majority of viscous components in viscoelastic composition, with the phase angles being mostly higher than 80 o. The SBS modified binders had lower phase angles, with their elasticity still retained. Meanwhile, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test showed that at a confidence level of 0.05, at whatever aging state, the neat asphalt had a stable complex modulus corresponding to the softening point, which was 13.034 kPa at a standard deviation of 2.105 kPa under the same test condition. The softening point of neat asphalt binder can be calculated via the equivalent modulus rule. It is found out that there is a good relationship between the calculated and the measured softening points. And it is suggested that more data are needed to validate this finding. 展开更多

Through experimental analysis of the liquid flows in a flow channel instrument, prompt evaluation of the physically defined viscosity of non-Newtonian liquid foods was investigated for development into a structurally simple and easy-to-use viscometer. For Newtonian and non-Newtonian test liquids, a relation between the friction coefficient and Reynolds number, which was dimensionless as derived from an expression of analysis as a gravity current, indicated a condition under which the flow in the instrument was laminar and under which an average shear rate was on the order of less than 1 s~. Prediction organized based on this empirical relation reproduced practically the flow curve determined for the liquid foods using a rotor type viscometer. Utilization of the channel instrument as a viscometer was formulated in terms of physical meanings of measurements such as the flow length and elapsed time. 展开更多

The present study concerns the measurement of the convective heat transfer coefficient on the solid-fluid interface by the pulsed photothermal method.This non-intrusive technique is apphed for the measurement of the local heat transfer coefficients in cooling of a rectangular slab that simulates an electronic component.The heat transfer coefficient is deduced from the evolution of the transient temperature induced by a sudden deposit of a luminous energy on the front face of the slab.In order to draw up the heat transfer cartography by a non-destructive tool, the infrared thermography has been used.Two inverse techniques for the identification of the heat transfer coefficient are presented here.The first one is based on the assumption that heat transfer coefficient remains constant during the pulsed experiment,and the second one considered it variable in space and time.The temporal and spatial evolutions are expressed as a constant heat transfer coefficient(h_0)multiplied by a function of time and space f(x,t).The function f is deduced from the resolution of the conjugated convection-conduction problem,by a control volume technique for the case of thermally thick sample.The results are given for different air velocities and deflection angles of the flow. 展开更多
