Using the U.S. National Centers for Environmental Prediction reanalysis data, this paper examines the physical process of the weakening of a subtropical anticyclone in West Pacific during the onset period using the Zwack-Okossi vorticity equation. Results show that during the pre-onset period, the positive vorticity advection in front of an upper tropospheric trough was the most dominant physical mechanism for the increase of the cyclonic vorticity on the 850-hPa layer over the South China Sea and its nearby region. The secondary contribution to the increase of the cyclonic vorticity was the warm-air advection. After the onset, the magnitude of the latent-heat warming term rapidly increased and its effect on the increase of the cyclonic vorticity was about the same as the positive-vorticity advection. The adiabatic term and divergence term contributed negatively to the increase of the cyclonic vorticity most of the time. Thus, the positive vorticity advection is the most important physical mechanism for the weakening of the West Pacific subtropical anticyclone over the South China Sea during the onset period.展开更多

We study its various properties, prove the global existence of the solution to this flow, discuss its convergence and possible applications, and its relation to the Navier-Stokes equations on manifolds and Kazdan-Warner-Bourguignon-Ezin identity for conformal Killing vector fields. We also provide two new criterions on the existence of Killing vector fields. A similar flow to finding holomorphic vector fields on K¨ahler manifolds will be studied by Li and Liu(2014).展开更多

The turbulent eddy-viscosity coefficient is computed from a recalibrated Bradshaw's assumption that the constant a1= 0.31 is recalibrated to a function based on a set of direct numerical simulation(DNS) data. The values of dissipation of turbulent kinetic energy consist of the near-wall part and isotropic part, and the isotropic part involves the von Karman length scale as the turbulent length scale. The performance of the new model is evaluated by the results from DNS for fully developed turbulence channel flow with a wide range of Reynolds numbers. However, the computed result of the recirculating flow at the separated bubble of NACA4412 demonstrates that an increase is needed on the turbulent dissipation, and this leads to an advanced tuning on the self-adjusted function. The improved model predicts better results in both the non-equilibrium and equilibrium flows, e.g. channel flows, backward-facing step flow and hump in a channel.展开更多

In order to establish resemblance to the in vivo conditions, an improved shape of the time-variant overlapping stenosis in the elastic tapered artery subject to pulsatile pressure gradient is considered. Because it contains a suspension of all erythrocytes, the flowing blood is represented by micropolar fluid. By applying a suitable coordinate transformation, tapered cosine-shaped artery turned into non-tapered rectangular and a rigid artery. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations under the imposed realistic boundary conditions are solved using the finite difference method. The effects of vessel tapering on flow characteristics consid- ering their dependencies with time are investigated. The results show that by increasing the taper angle the axial velocity and volumetric flow rate increase and the microrota- tional velocity and resistive impedance reduce. It has been shown that the results are in agreement with similar data from the literature.展开更多
