The heat insulation performance test is about the temperatures on surfaces of test piece. The high air temperature and the low air temperature were measured to determine the overall heat transfer coefficient and thermal conductivity. The conclusions are drawn that the heat transmission coefficients for each type of existing reflection insulator are: A-1 (0.045 W/(m-K)), A-2 (0.031 W/(m.K)), A-3 (0.042 W/(m.K)), A-4 (0.078 W/(m.K)), and the average heat conductivity is 0.049 W/(m-K); The heat conductivity for each type of Styrofoam insulator are 0.030 W/(m.K) for B-l, 0.032 W/(m-K) for B-2, 0.037 W/(m'K) for B-3, 0.037 W/(m.K) for B-4, and the average heat conductivity is 0.035 W/(m'K) regardless of the thickness of the insulator; The heat conductivity values of the multilayer reflection insulators are converted based on the thickness and type C-1 (0.020 W/(m.K)), C-2 (0.018 W/(m.K)), C-3 (0.016 W/(m.K)), and C-4 (0.012 W/(m.K)); The multilayer reflection insulator keeps the indoor-side surface temperature high (during winter) or low (in summer), enhances the comfort of the building occupants, and conducts heating and moisture resistance to prevent dew condensation on the glass-outer-wall surface.展开更多

An insulating material may suffer from the most different efforts, but the major applications suggest mechanical bending and compression tests because the insulation can be applied on roofs of homes, liners similar to, in the form of plates. Thus, the product is continually flexed. When the material is used on a floor, it suffers constant compressions over its use. For tests performed in this study, we used the ASTM D695-96 for compression, an example of literature. Using such a standard test, specimens were produced for compression test, with specimens made of cylindrical shapes, respecting the condition that the height of the specimen corresponds to twice the diameter of the base. Polyurethane castor without charge vermiculite and mass loads of 10%, 15% and 20% matrix: four specimens for each type of material were produced. The composites were tested in a universal testing machine at a speed of 2 mm/s. The results are average values of four test samples, and initially show the behavior of castor oil polyurethane during the compression test, which is detailed in the stress versus strain curve. The achieved results are promising, and detailed in this paper.展开更多

The authors were invited to carry out on-site PD testing experiment to further diagnose and locate the potential problem of the cable system. This paper presents the experience of the present authors carrying out the cable test. Following a brief introduction to the experiment equipments and physical connections, the paper analyses the data collected from the testing, including PD pulse shape analysis, frequency spectrum analysis and phase resolved PD pattern analysis. Associated with PD propagation direction identification, PD source diagnosis and localisation was made. Four different types of sensors, which were adapted during the testing, are shown to have different frequency bandwidths and performed differently. Aider comparing the parameters of the sensor and the PD signals detected by individual sensor, optimal PD monitoring bandwidth for cable system is suggested.展开更多

In the present work, tracking and erosion resistance of the micro size filled and nano size filled silicone rubber material has been studied under the AC voltage, with ammonium chloride as a contaminant, as per IEC 60587 test procedures. The characteristic changes in the tracking resistance of the micro size and nano size filled specimens are analyzed through leakage current measurement. Comparative Tracking Index (CTI) is also evaluated in order to understand the relative behavior of solid electrical insulating material with regard to their susceptibility to surface tracking. Trend followed by the fundamental, third harmonic and fifth harmonic components of the leakage current during the tracking study are analyzed using moving average current technique. It is observed that the harmonic components of leakage current show good correlation with the tracking and erosion resistance of the material. It is noticed that 5 % wt ofnano size filler gives similar performance to that of 30 % wt of micro size filler in silicone composites.展开更多

LS-SVMs aim at extending methodologies typical of classical support vector machines for problems beyond classification and regression. This paper describes a methodology that was developed for the prediction of the critical flashover voltage of polluted insulators by using a LS-SVM. The methodology uses as input variables characteristics of the insulator such as diameter, height, creepage distance, form factor and equivalent salt deposit density. The estimation offlashover performance of polluted insulators is based on field experience and laboratory tests are invaluable as they significantly reduce the time and labour involved in insulators design and selection. The majority of the variables to be predicted are dependent upon several independent variables. The results from this work are useful to predict the contamination severity, critical flashover voltage as a function of contamination severity, arc length, and especially to predict the flashover voltage. The validity of the approach was examined by testing several insulators with different geometries. Moreover, the performance of the proposed approach with other intelligence method based on ANN (artificial neural networks) is compared. It can be concluded that the LS-SVM approach has better generalization ability that assist the measurement and monitoring of contamination severity, flashover voltage and leakage current.展开更多

Partial discharges are a major source of insulation failure in electric power transformers, and the differentiation from other sources of acoustic emission is of the utmost importance. This paper reports the development of a new sensor concept - a fiber laser sensor based on a phase-shifted chirped fiber grating - for the acoustic emission detection of incipient faults in oil-filled power transformers. These sensors can be placed in the inner surface of the transformer tank wall, not affecting the insulation integrity of the structure and improving fault detection and location. The performance of the sensing head is characterized and compared for different surrounding media: air, water, and oil. The results obtained indicate the feasibility of this sensing approach for the industrial development of practical solutions.展开更多
