While there are many potential bene...The introduction of next-generation sequencing(NGS) technology in testing for hereditary cancer susceptibility allows testing of multiple cancer susceptibility genes simultaneously. While there are many potential benefits to utilizing this technology in the hereditary cancer clinic, including efficiency of time and cost, there are also important limitations that must be considered. The best panel for the given clinical situation should be selected to minimize the number of variants of unknown significance. The inclusion in panels of low penetrance or newly identified genes without specific actionability can be problematic for interpretation.Genetic counselors are an essential part of the hereditary cancer risk assessment team, helping the medical team select the most appropriate test and interpret the often complex results. The cultivation of these species, conducted i...Information on seed vigor of the vegetable crops is always important and necessary due to the increasing demand of high quality seeds for sowing and high-value commercial. The cultivation of these species, conducted intensively, should be established with seed high potential physiological and health for the development of a more productive and sustainable agriculture. The present study was conducted to evaluate the potential physiological of seed lots of radish and coriander. The experiment was conducted at the laboratory of seed analysis and greenhouse of the plant science department of the Federal University of Pelotas in South Brazil. Four radish seed lots, cultivar "Saxa", and four coriander seed lots, cultivar "Verdito" were used. Germination seed test, first count of germination, accelerated aging test, electrical conductivity and seedling emergence were used to evaluate the physiological quality of the lots. The experimental design was completely randomized design with five replications. Means were compared by Tukey test. The accelerated aging test was the most efficient test in assessing the physiological quality for both lots of radish seeds and coriander and this test provide coherent results with seedlings emergence.展开更多
Background:Stiffness is commonly assessed in relation to injury and athletic performance.The purpose of this research was to compare the validity and reliability of 3 in vivo methods of stiffness assessment using 1 c...Background:Stiffness is commonly assessed in relation to injury and athletic performance.The purpose of this research was to compare the validity and reliability of 3 in vivo methods of stiffness assessment using 1 cohort of participants.Methods:To determine inter-day reliability,15 female netballers were assessed for stiffness twice within 1 week using unilateral hopping(vertical stiffness),free oscillations of the calf,and myometry of various muscles of the triceps surae.To establish convergent construct validity,stiffness was compared to static and dynamic strength measurements.Results:Test–retest stiffness results revealed that vertical stiffness produced moderate to high reliability results and myometry presented moderate to very high reliability.In contrast,the free oscillation technique displayed low to moderate reliability.Vertical stiffness demonstrated a significa t correlation with rate of force development during a squat jump,whilst myometer stiffness measurements from 3 sites in the lower limb revealed significan correlations with isometric rate of force development.Further,significan negative correlations were evident between the eccentric utilisation ratio and various myometer stiffness results.No relationships were established between the free oscillation technique and any of the performance measurements.Conclusion:These results suggest that vertical stiffness and myometry are valid and reliable methods for assessing stiffness.展开更多

The present study evaluates the performances of the two GAMIL (grid-point atmospheric model of lAP LASG) versions during TWP-ICE using CAPT. The results indicate that GAMIL2.0 reproduced better shifts of clouds and rainfall during three distinct monsoon phases than GAMIL1.0, although both of them simulated the large-scale dynamical states well, which are mainly attributable to the different convective parameterizations.展开更多

Purpose: To...Background: HRP2-based Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs) for malaria ensure a rational use of artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT). The HRP2 antigen can go through the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Purpose: To assess the HRP2-based RDT in malaria and detect the HRP2 in CSF. Methods: From November 2006 to May 2007, all patients under 15 years showing clinical symptoms of malaria were included. RDT was performed on the CSF and peripheral blood. Results: Out of the 951 patients included, 131 (13.7%) were confirmed through RDT and 130 (13.6%) through thick blood smear. Sensitivity and specificity stood at 96.96% and 99.71% respectively, for uncomplicated cases and at 100% and 99.13% for severe cases. Tests to detect HRP2 in the CSF of 52 cases were negative. Conclusion: Tests to detect HRP2 in the CSF could make it possible to diagnose severe malaria cases when peripheral parasitemia would be below the detection threshold.展开更多

The MMR directly measures the high-frequency shear of velocity fl uctuations, with which we can estimate the dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energy. We summarize and discuss methods for estimating the turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate. Instrument body vibrations contaminate the shear signal in an ocean fi eld experiment, and a compensating correction successfully removes this contamination. In both tank test and ocean fi eld experiment, the dissipation rate measured with the MMR agreed well with that measured using other instruments.展开更多
