The correlation analysis has been used to study the relationship between spring soil moisture over China and East Asian summer monsoon (EASM). It is shown that EASM has a strong positive correlation with spring soil moisture over southwest China and the Great Bend region of the Yellow River. A standard soil moisture index (SMI) has been defined using the observed soil moisture of the two regions. The results show that SMI has a strong correlation with EASM. The years of strong (weak) SMI are associated with stronger (weaker) summer monsoon circulation. In the years of strong SMI, the west Pacific subtropical high is much northward in position and weaker in intensity;the westerlies zone is also more to the north. All of these make EASM circulation move northward and cause the rainfall belt to relocate to North China and Northeast China. SMI can reflect the variation of the summer rainfall anomaly over eastern China. In the years of strong SMI, the rainfall belt is mainly located over the northern part of China. However, during the weak years, the summer rainfall belt is largely located over the mid-and lower-reaches of the Yangtze River. Additionally, the SMI has obvious oscillations of quasi 4-6 years and quasi 2 years. Moreover, negative SMI predicts EASM better than positive SMI. 展开更多

International Financial Market's Integration and Modelling Returns of Risky Assets

The aim of this paper is to test the ability of conditional and unconditional capital asset pricing models (CAPMs) and to explain emerging markets returns in terms of their integration into the international market. The authors use data on five developed countries and five emerging countries as well as data on the Tunis Stock Exchange (TSE) after the reforms. The results show that the correlations between emerging markets returns and developed markets returns are very low and sometimes negative. Conditional arbitrage pricing theory (APT) as well as conditional CAPM has low predictive power for emerging markets than that for developed markets. Finally, following the financial reforms, Tunisian financial markets have became more and more integrated into the international market (excess returns and unconditional beta consistent with predictions). However, conditional APT does not accurately explain Tunisian market returns. This study confirms the unavailability of an accurate modelling technique of the TSE structure. 展开更多

In this paper an aggregated generic dynamic model of the wind farm consisting of full power converter wind turbines is composed and the model validation based on actual field measurements is performed. The paper is based on the measurements obtained from the real short circuit test applied to connection point of observed wind farm. The presented approach for validating the composed model and fault ride-through (FRT) capability for the whole wind park is unique in overall practice and its significance and importance is described and analyzed. 展开更多

In the past decade, the tidal energies have caused worldwide concern as it can provide regular and predictable re- newable energy resource for power generation. The majority of technologies for exploiting the tidal stream energy are based on the concept of the horizontal axis propellers, which can be derived from the design and operation of wind turbines. However, there are some peculiar features such as the propeller working in the seawater with free surface and the possible occurrence of cavitation as compared with wind turbines. Especially, for a coun- ter-rotating type tidal stream power turbine, it is difficult to accurately predict the interaction between the front and rear blades at the design stage by blade element momentum theory. As a result, CFD shows its advantage to predict the performance of counter-rotating type propellers of the tidal stream turbi^le. In order to improve the accuracy of CFD predictions, the predicted results must be verified with experimental values. In this paper, a CFD model using block-structured grid was set up and experimental test was performed in a water tunnel for a tidal stream turbine with counter-rotating type propellers. The comparison between CFD predictions and experimental data shows quite good agreement on the power coefficients, which provides an evidence of validation of the CFD model. Such results offer the necessary confidence in the accuracy of the set up CFD model for the coun- ter-rotating type tidal stream turbine. 展开更多

Predicting wind turbine S825 airfoil's aerodynamic performance is crucial to improving its energy efficiency and reducing its environmental impact. In this paper, a numerical simulation on the wind turbine S825 airfoil is con- ducted with k-to turbulence model at different attack angles. By comparing with experimental data, a new method of modifying k-to model is proposed. A modifying function is proposed to limit the production term in ω equation based on fluid rotation and deformation. This method improves turbulent viscosity and decreases separating re- gion when the airfoil works at large separating conditions. The predictive accuracy could be improved by using the modified k-to turbulence model. 展开更多
