Numerical calculations were carried out by three different configurations of magnetic field: without magnetic field, with an axial magnetic field (AMF) and with a cusp-shaped magnetic field (CMF). The results reveal that the magnetic fields can effectively suppress the melt flow and thermal fluctuation and the suppression effect of the AMF is stronger than that of the CMF. Besides, the physical mechanism of thermocapillary?buoyancy convection instability was discussed and the effects of magnetic field on the critical Marangoni number were also obtained.展开更多

The results indicate that the stable flow is observed when the Marangoni number (Ma) is small; however, when the value of Ma increases and exceeds a threshold value, the stable steady flow transits to be unstable flow. As the height of the melt increases, the flow is enhanced at first and then gets weakened. As the width of gap decreases gradually, the strength of flow is enhanced. The approach of using axial magnetic field is an effective way to suppress the buoyant-thermocapillary convection. As the magnetic field strength increases, the inhibition is enhanced. The critical Marangoni number increases slightly with a greater melt height, a narrower width of gap, and a more strength of magnetic field.展开更多

The water sample was collected from the Changjiang Estuary, the East China Sea. The species identification is based on shape, size, surface micro morphology, ornamentation of thecal plates and the architecture of the periflagellar area and the intercalary bands as seen by light and scanning electron microscope. Prorocentrum donghaiense Lu sp. nov. is compared with other prorocentrum species with respect to morphological characteristics and bloom behavior. It is not known whether Prorocentrum donghaiense Lu sp. nov produces phycotoxins like some other Prorocentrum species. Four other red tide species in the family Prorocentraceae (Dinophyceae), namely P. balticum , P. minimum, P. micans, P. triestinum , were examined and identified by light and scanning electron microscope. They have been recorded as bloom forming species. Some aggregates of Prorocentrum are observed at the end of blooms. An event of strong discoloration caused by P. donghaiense could be detected by satellite sensor in the East China Sea in the late spring of 1995.展开更多

They are trophic link between the microbial food web and grazing food chain. In this study, ciliates were collected from 11 sites in the southern South China Sea (SCS) during August 25 to September 28, 2011. Their composition and distribution at the surface and 75m deep depth of the ocean were studied. A total of 30 species belonging to 22 genera were identified, and 22 species of 15 genera were Tintinnids. Eutintinnusfraknoii and E. stramentus were the most common species. The other dominants were strombidiids ciliates including Strombidium conicum and S. globosaneum, which were followed by the tide form, Mesodinium pulex. Ciliates abundance ranged from 46 indL-1 to 368 indL-1 in the open sites, 46-368indL-1 at surface and 73-198indL-1 at 75m deep layer. In the Yongshu reef, ciliates abundance ranged from 167indL-1 to 365 ind L-1 in the water colunm, similar to that in Sanya coral reef waters. Ciliates composition showed obvious difference between surface and 75m deep layer at station S2 (P〈0.05), while no similar result was observed at other sites. At 75m deep layer, salinity was negatively related to mixed layer depth (P〈 0.05), but positively to chlorophyll a concentration (P〈 0.05), indicating that the change of vertical mixing in water column influenced vertical distribution of ciliates in the southern SCS.展开更多

A hurricane struck the study area between the two grid station investigations, which were six days apart. Six tintinnid species (Favella panamensis, Leptotintinnus nordqvisti, Tintinnopsis butschlii, T. karajacensis, T. Radix and Wangiella dicollaria) were identified. Total cililate abundance in the surface layer ranged from 20 to 770 ind/l. In the first grid investigation, Tintinnopsis karajacensis dominated in the warm, low salinity waters at the Huanghe River mouth. Aloricate ciliate sp.1 dominated in the cold, high salinity waters in the northwest of the study area and the Bohai Strait. In the second grid investigation, T. Karajacensis almost disappeared. The abundance of aloricate ciliate sp.1 decreased drastically. The aloricate ciliate sp.2 dominated at the Bohai Strait. The change of ciliate abundance may be due to the disturbance of hurricane.展开更多

The N content of these species is similar, while the C, P, and Si contents of S. costatum from eutrophic Changjiang (Yangtze River) estuary are higher than those from Jiaozhou Bay (JZB), particularly the content of Si. The C, N, P, and Si contents of cultured phytoplankton in JZB increase with size fraction augmentation, and the percentages of C, N, and P follow the same trend, while the percentage of Si remain constant. Moreover, S. costatum from small-sized fraction assimilated Si more easily than C. curvisetus and T. nordenskirldii, which is explained by the dominance of S. costatum under the conditions of low SiO3-Si concentration in JZB. The C, N, P, and Si contents of cultured S. costatum collected during summer and winter are higher, which is consistent with the phytoplankton blooming seasons in JZB. The SiO3-Si concentration of seawater during spring restrain the growth of phytoplankton, supported by the fact that the N, P, and Si contents and their ratios in cells of cultured S. costatum are low in spring season.展开更多

The aftereffect of the 3.3% Beta-Cypermethrin aqueous capsule suspension which was manufactured according to the optimal formula was up more than 25 days. The experiments on controlling the larvae of Dendrolinmus superans Butler and the adults of Xylotrechus rusticus L were carried out with different concentrations of this chemical. The death rate reached 80% when 250 times solution of the chemical was sprayed on stem to control the larvae of D. superans. For control of the adults of X. rusticus, 200, 400 and 600 times solution of the chemical were applied and their control effects (death rate) reached 85.23%, 74.21% and 66.59% respec-tively. Two kinds of solution (200 times and 300 times) of the chemical were used to control the larvae of D. superans in large area, and the control effect for both concentrations was over 90%.展开更多

Different heating rates have been designed for detailed experiment, and relatively high heating rate is especially demanded for space experiment due to the limited time of experiment. In the present paper, the influence of heating rate on (△T)c was studied experimentally for cases of upper or lower rod heating for different geometry of liquid bridge. The results show that there is large variation of (△T)c for different heating rate, changing from around 0.1℃/s to 1.6℃/s.This result is helpful for the design of Marangoni convection experiment and the explanation of the dispersion of experimental results.展开更多
