The Arctic is experiencing a significant warming trend as well as a decadal oscillation. The atmospheric circulation represented by the Polar Vortex and the sea ice cover show decadal variabilities, while it has been difficult to reveal the decadal oscillation from the ocean interior. The recent distribution of Russian hydrochemical data collected from the Arctic Basin provides useful information on ocean interior variabilities. Silicate is used to provide the most valuable data for showing the boundary between the silicate-rich Pacific Water and the opposite Atlantic Water. Here, it is assumed that the silicate distribution receives minor influence from seasonal biological productivity and Siberian Rivers outflow. It shows a clear maximum around 100m depth in the Canada Basin, along with a vertical gradient below 100 m, which provides information on the vertical motion of the upper boundary of the Atlantic Water at a decadal time scale. The boundary shifts upward (downward), as realized by the silicate reduction (increase) at a fixed depth, responding to a more intense (weaker) Polar Vortex or a positive (negative) phase of the Arctic Oscillation. A coupled ice-ocean model is employed to reconstruct this decadal oscillation. 展开更多

Based on the field data obtained during cruises on the shelf of the East China Sea from 1997 to 1999, seasonal variations of coastal upwelling on the inner shelf are discussed by using cross-shelf transect profiles and horizontal distributions of chemical and hydrographic variables. Results show that the coastal upwelling was year-round, but the areas and intensities of the upwelling were quite different in season. The coastal upwelling occurred in all of the coastal areas of the region in spring and summer, but in autumn only in the area off Zhejiang Province, and in winter in the area off Fujian Prov- ince. It was the strongest in summer and the weakest in winter. Geographically, it was the strongest in the area off Zhejiang Province and the weakest in the southmost or northmost parts of the East China Sea. The estimated nutrient fluxes upward into euphotic zone through coastal upwelling were quite large, es- pecially for phosphate, which contributed significantly to primary production and improved the nutrient structure of the coastal ecosystem in the East China Sea. 展开更多

Impact of and adaptation strategies for sea-level rise on Yangtze River Delta 被引量:9

The Yangtze River Delta characterized by a dense population and a rapidly developing economy is highly vulnerable to sea-level rise. The data from the China Oceanic Information Network and the Zhejiang Provincial Hydrology Bureau are used to analyze sea-level rise. The rate of sea-level rise in the delta was 2.4 mm per year in 1981-2015. The annual sea-level at Daishan, Dinghai, and Dongtou stations in the south wing of the delta were 4.3, 3.1, and 5 mm per year respectively over the same period. The 10-year averaged results at each station also indicate a perceptible trend of sea-level rise. Sea-level rise is contributed to a larger proportion of intensified erosion, ranging from 3% to 14% in the delta. Meanwhile, the 100-year return period of tidal level has decreased to the 50-year rank at Dongtou and Dinghai stations. Moreover, the arrival time of tidal bores at Yanguan is 4 min earlier under sea-level rise of 0.145 m than that of 0 m. The height of tidal bores and the velocities at the surface and bottom layers have an increase under sea-level rise. The maximum increases of high and low tide levels are 0.122 m and 0.016 m while the maximum increases of the velocities at the surface and bottom layers are 0.07 m s^- 1 and 0.05 m s ^-1, respectively. Sea-level rise will bring about the damage of seawall, thus the design standard of constructing seawalls should adopt a higher level to minimize the associated risks in the Yangtze River Delta and its south wing. 展开更多

To study the variations in surface hydrography and circulation in northern South China Sea (NSCS), rotated empirical orthogonal function (REOF) and extended associate pattern analysis (EAPA) are used with daily sea surface salinity (SSS), sea surface temperature (SST) and sea surface height (SSH) datasets cover- ing 1 126 days from American Navy Experimental Real-Time East Asian Seas Ocean Nowcast System in this paper. Results show that in summer, the SCS Diluted Water Expansion (SDWE) is the most dominant factor con- trolling SSS variations in the NSCS. The remarkable SDWE usually begins in early July, reaches its maximum in middle August and weakens in late September. In summer flourishing period, its low saline core is just limited between 21°N and 22°N because of strong surface anomalous anticyclonic circulation in the NSCS. In early or late stage, the anomalous anticyclonic circulation becomes weak or turns into cyclonic one, thus the weak SCS diluted water can disperse. And its influence on the SSS variations has obviously decreased. The Kuroshio intrusion is the second controlling factor, and it has the almost opposite seasonal or intraseasonal oscillations and spatial charac- teristics to the SDWE. Winter Kuroshio Intrusion (WKI) begins in early November and lasts about three months. Intraseasonal Kuroshio Intrusion (IKI) takes place at any seasons. The westward Ekman transport produced by the north anomaly of East Asia Monsoon (EAM) pushes warmer and more saline seawater into the NSCS through the Bashi Strait and seems to decide the intensity of seasonal and intraseasonal Kuroshio intrusions. 展开更多

On the dimensions of describing scenery, portraying figures and describing psychology, Hemingway's style is seemingly rather simple and direct. On the other hand, the theme of Hemingway's works is symbolic and provides much room for thinking. Hemingway endowed his works with symbolic meanings by using the methods of pun and coda. Vertical profiles of chl-a and primary productivity in the middle continental shelf area and eddy area of the East China Sea were studied using data from a cruise in the East China Sea in February to March, 1997 and a cruise in July, 1998. The results showed that chl-a vertical distribution closely related to in situ hydrological and nutrient conditions. Chla-a concentration ranged from 0.22 to 0.35 mg/m 3 and 0.93-1.09 mg/m 3 in the eddy area and in the middle continental shelf area, respectively. In both areas, chl-a concentrations in deep layers were slightly higher than those in shallow layers, but was of the same order of magnitude. In summer, when a thermocline existed in the water column, highest chl-a concentrations appeared at the base of the thermocline layers in both areas. In the eddy area, chl-a concentration maximized at 3l.743 mg/m 3, and averaged l.143 mg/m 3 below 30 m depth. In the middle continental shelf area, the highest chl-a concentration was 2.120 mg/m 3, the average was 1.168 mg/m 3. The primary productivity reached 1418.76 mgC/(m 2·d) in summer and 1360.69 mgC/(m 2·d) in winter. In the eddy area, the primary productivity was 787.50 mgC/(m 2·d) in summer and 159.04 mgC/(m 2·d) in winter. Vertical carbon sinking rate from the deep layer to the bottom in both areas is also discussed in this paper. 展开更多

As is well-known, Nansha Islands in the South China Sea(SCS) are of important strategic position and invaluable ecological value. Therefore, many attentions are paid to either the political and legal aspects of exposed features that matter in the maritime delimitation, or the physical and geographical characteristics of coral reefs that are the predominant structures of these islands. However, it seems that they consistently lose the connection of sciences and humanities in the research of Nansha Islands in the SCS. In this study, we carry out a combinative research, based on remote sensing data using satellite imagery analysis together with historical materials using literature investigation, so as to reconsider to the geographical characteristics of Nansha Islands from a standpoint of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea(UNCLOS). After thoroughly appraising the statuses of these newly formed sand cays, several high tide features of Nansha Islands are identified. By means of the comparison of satellite images coupled with reference to nautical charting and sailing directions during different time periods, we can conclude that the statuses of these high tide features formed on reef platforms are relatively stable due to the growth of reef-building organisms although their migration patterns are subject to external disturbances, and hence the cursory judgment pursuant to the relevant provisions of the UNCLOS about whether a coral reef belongs to a low tide elevation only based on outdated references or ex parte evidences is not reliable. Moreover, it is accordingly justified to improve further development and perfection of the maritime legislation by eliminating such ambiguities with the growth of coral reefs and the evolution of sand cays being both taken into account. 展开更多

We present two efficient approaches,namely the epoch-differenced(ED) and satellite-and epoch-differenced(SDED) approaches,for the estimation of IFCBs of the two Block IIF satellites.For the analysis,data from 18 stations from the IGS network spanning 96 d is processed.Results show that the IFCBs of PRN25 and PRN01 exhibit periodical signal of one orbit revolution with a magnitude up to 18 cm.The periodical variation of the IFCBs is modeled by a sinusoidal function of the included angle between the sun,earth and the satellite.The presented model enables a consistent use of L1/L2 clock products in L1/L5-based positioning.The algorithm is incorporated into the MGPSS software at SHAO(Shanghai Astronomical Observatory,Chinese Academy of Sciences) and is used to monitor the IFCB variation in near real-time. 展开更多

Based on high-resolution,Array for Real-time Geostrophic Oceanography(Argo)profiles and Sea Level Anomaly(SLA)data,this study statistically analyzes and compares turbulent diapycnal mixing profiles inside and outside mesoscale eddies in the Gulf Stream region.The result indicates that average diapycnal diffusivity at 300–540 m depths in anticyclonic eddies reaches4.0×10-5 m2 s-1.This is significantly higher than the 1.6×10-5 m2 s-1 outside eddies and 0.8×10-5 m2 s-1 in cyclonic eddies.Probabilities of diapycnal diffusivity greater than 10-4 m2 s-1 within anticyclonic and cyclonic eddies and outside eddies are29%,5%and 12%,respectively.However,magnitudes of average diapycnal diffusivity at 540–900 m depths in these three cases are of the same order,10-5 m2 s-1.Twenty-four of a total 38 anticyclonic eddies had enhanced mixing in the ocean interior,and 22 were observed during or shortly after strong winds.The coincidence between enhanced mixing and strong wind stress indicates that more wind-induced,near-inertial wave energy propagates downward in anticyclonic eddies.The deeper part of 12 profiles(below 540 m)in anticyclonic eddies had vertical overturns with Thorpe scale exceeding 5 m,among which three profiles had overturns reaching 20 m.Enhanced mixing may have occurred in deep layers of some profiles,although it was not evident in average conditions. 展开更多

Objective:To summarize the clinical application patterns in acupuncture-moxibustion treatment of AD by reviewing the clinical literatures on acupuncture-moxibustion for Alzheimer disease(AD)published between January 2009 and December 2019.Methods:China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),Wanfang Academic Journal Full-text Database(Wanfang),Chongqing VIP Database(CQVIP),Chinese Medicine Acupuncture-moxibustion Information Database,PubMed Medical Data Retrieval Service System,Springer Database and Ovid Technologies(OVID)were retrieved to screen clinical studies of acupuncture-moxibustion treatment of AD according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria to conduct quantitative,clustering and association analyses.Results:In acupuncture-moxibustion treatment of AD,the frequently used points were Baihui(GV 20),Zusanli(ST 36),Sishencong(EX-HN 1),Taixi(KI 3),Sanyinjiao(SP 6),and Neiguan(PC 6)in the descending order.Regarding meridians,the most frequently used one was the Governor Vessel,followed by the Stomach Meridian of Foot Yangming and Gallbladder Meridian of Foot Shaoyang.From the perspective of body regions,the points in the head-face region and the lower-limb region had the highest frequencies,followed by the upper-limb,back and chest-abdomen regions.The point group,Baihui(GV 20)and Sishencong(EX-HN 1)-Neiguan(PC 6)-Sanyinjiao(SP 6),showed the most significant association,and the group winning the second place was Baihui(GV 20)and Sishencong(EX-HN 1)-Neiguan(PC 6)-Zusanli(ST 36).The clustering analysis showed that the commonly used point pairs included Zusanli(ST 36)-Sishencong(EX-HN 1)and Taixi(KI 3)-Sanyinjiao(SP 6),which were closely associated with Baihui(GV 20).By analyzing the three commonly used acupuncture-moxibustion methods,acupuncture plus medication was found achieving the best result in the total effective rate and mini-mental state examination(MMSE)score,followed by monotherapy of electroacupuncture therapy,and these two methods were superior to acupuncture alone(P<0.05);the scores of MMSE,Alzheimer disease assessment scale-cognitive section(ADAS-cog)and activity of daily living scale(ADL)showed significant improvements after treatment(all P<0.01).Conclusion:In the acupuncture-moxibustion prescriptions for AD,the main points are Baihui(GV 20),Sishencong(EX-HN 1),Neiguan(PC 6),Zusanli(ST 36),Sanyinjiao(SP 6)and Taixi(KI 3).Monotherapy of acupuncture has the highest frequency amongst the treatment methods,but its effective rate is lower than that of acupuncture plus medication and monotherapy of electroacupuncture. 展开更多
