In this study,an ultra‐fast and simple solvent‐free microwave method was successfully demonstrated using a series of ultra‐small(~2.5 nm)surfactant‐free Ru_(2)P@Ru/CNT heterostructures for the first time.The structure has a high‐density Ru component and Ru_(2)P component interface,which accelerates the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).The prepared Ru_(2)P@Ru/CNT demonstrated excellent catalytic effects for the HER in alkaline media and real seawater.The experimental results indicate that ratio‐optimized Ru_(2)P@Ru/CNT(Ru_(2)P:Ru=66:34)requires only 23 and 29 mV to reach 10 mA cm^(-2)in 1.0 mol/L KOH and real seawater,respectively.These values are 10 and 24 mV lower than those of commercial Pt/C in 1.0 mol/L KOH(33 mV)and real seawater(53 mV),respectively,making it among the best non‐Pt HER reported in the literature.Additionally,the TOF of Ru_(2)P@Ru/CNT in alkaline freshwater and seawater were 13.1 and 8.5 s^(-1),respectively.These exceed the corresponding values for Pt/C,indicating that the catalyst has excellent intrinsic activity.The high current activity of Ru_(2)P@Ru/CNT in 1.0 mol/L KOH was explored,and only 77 and 104 mV were required to reach 500 and 1000 mA cm^(-2),respectively.After 100 h of durability testing,the catalyst retained excellent catalytic and structural stability in low current density,high current density,and seawater. 展开更多

A joint method to retrieve directional ocean wave spectra from SAR and wave spectrometer data 被引量:2

This paper proposes a joint method to simultaneously retrieve wave spectra at dif ferent scales from spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) and wave spectrometer data. The method combines the output from the two dif ferent sensors to overcome retrieval limitations that occur in some sea states. The wave spectrometer sensitivity coeffi cient is estimated using an ef fective signifi cant wave height(SWH), which is an average of SAR-derived and wave spectrometer-derived SWH. This averaging extends the area of the sea surface sampled by the nadir beam of the wave spectrometer to improve the accuracy of the estimated sensitivity coeffi cient in inhomogeneous sea states. Wave spectra are then retrieved from SAR data using wave spectrometer-derived spectra as fi rst guess spectra to complement the short waves lost in SAR data retrieval. In addition, the problem of 180° ambiguity in retrieved spectra is overcome using SAR imaginary cross spectra. Simulated data were used to validate the joint method. The simulations demonstrated that retrieved wave parameters, including SWH, peak wave length(PWL), and peak wave direction(PWD), agree well with reference parameters. Collocated data from ENVISAT advanced SAR(ASAR), the airborne wave spectrometer STORM, the PHAROS buoy, and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting(ECMWF) were then used to verify the proposed method. Wave parameters retrieved from STORM and two ASAR images were compared to buoy and ECMWF wave data. Most of the retrieved parameters were comparable to reference parameters. The results of this study show that the proposed joint retrieval method could be a valuable complement to traditional methods used to retrieve directional ocean wave spectra, particularly in inhomogeneous sea states. 展开更多

Pleurochrysis carterae is a calcifi ed coccolithophorid species that usually blooms in the coastal area and causes aquaculture losses. The cellular calcifi cation, blooming and many other critical species specifi c eco-physiological processes are closely related to various metabolic pathways. The purpose of this study is to apply the unbiased and non-destructive method of nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) to detect the unknown holistic metabolite of P. carterae. The results show that NMR spectroscopic method is practical in the analysis of metabolites of phytoplankton. The metabolome of P. carterae was dominated by 26 metabolites involved in a number of dif ferent primary and secondary metabolic pathways. Organic acids and their derivatives, amino acids, sugars, nucleic aides were mainly detected. The abundant metabolites are that closely related to the process of cellular osmotic adjustment, which possibly refl ect the active ability of P. carterae to adapt to the versatile coastal niche. DMSP(dimethylsulphoniopropionate) was the most dominant metabolite in P. carterae, up to 2.065±0.278 mg/g lyophilized cells, followed by glutamate and lactose, the contents were 0.349±0.035 and 0.301±0.073 mg/g lyophilized cells respectively. Other metabolites that had the content ranged between 0.1–0.2 mg/g lyophilized cells were alanine, isethionate and arabinose. Amino acid(valine, phenylalanine, isoleucine, tyrosine), organic acid salts(lactate, succinate), scyllitol and uracil had content ranged from 0.01 to below 0.1 mg/g lyophilized cells. Trigonelline, fumarate and formate were detected in very low content(only thousandths of 1 mg per gram of lyophilized cells or below). Our results of the holistic metabolites of P. carterae are the basic references for the further studies when multiple problems will be addressed to this notorious blooming calcifying species. 展开更多

The airwave effect greatly influences the observational data from controlledsource electromagnetic exploration in shallow seas, which obscures the abnormal effects generated by exploration targets and, hence, affects the accuracy of the late exploration data interpretation. In this study, we propose a method to separate the main part from the anomalous field of marine controlled-source electromagnetic method (MCSEM) data based on Stratton-Chu integral transforms to eliminate the airwave effect, which dominates observed electromagnetic (EM) response in shallow seawater. This method of separating the main part from the anomalous field is a type of finite impulse response filter based on a discrete data set. Theoretical analysis proved that the method is stable and able to effectively depress noise. A numerical test indicated that the method could successfully eliminate the airwave effect from the observed EM signals generated by an air water interface and a seawater layer. This technique is applicable for seawater models with either flat or rough seabeds. 展开更多

Wave steepness retrieved from scatterometer data in a genetic algorithm

Wave steepness is an important characteristic of a high sea state, and is widely applied on wave propagations at ports, ships, offshore platforms, and CO2 circulation in the ocean. Obtaining wave steepness is a difficult task that depends heavily on theoretical research on wavelength distribution and direct observations. Development of remote-sensing techniques provides new opportunities to study wave steepness. At present, two formulas are proposed to estimate wave steepness from QuikSCAT and ERS-1/2 scatterometer data. We found that wave steepness retrieving is not affected by radar band, and polarization method, and that relationship of wave steepness with radar backscattering cross section is similar to that with wind. Therefore, we adopted and modified a genetic algorithm for relating wave steepness with radar backscattering cross section. Results show that the root-mean-square error of the wave steepness retrieved is 0.005 in two cases from ERS-1/2 scatterometer data and from QuikSCAT scatterometer data. 展开更多

Aquarius is the second satellite mission to focus on the remote sensing of sea-surface salinity from space and it has mapped global sea-surface salinity for nearly 3 years since its launch in 2011. However,benefiting from the high atmospheric transparency and moderate sensitivity to wind speed of the L-band brightness temperature(TB),the Aquarius L-band radiometer can actually provide a new technique for the remote sensing of wind speed. In this article,the sea-surface wind speeds derived from TBs measured by Aquarius' L-band radiometer are presented,the algorithm for which is developed and validated using multisource wind speed data,including Wind Sat microwave radiometer and National Data Buoy Center buoy data,and the Hurricane Research Division of the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory wind field product. The error analysis indicates that the performance of retrieval algorithm is good. The RMSE of the Aquarius wind-speed algorithm is about 1 and 1.5 m/s for global oceans and areas of tropical hurricanes,respectively. Consequently,the applicability of using the Aquarius L-band radiometer as a near all-weather wind-speed measuring method is verified. 展开更多

The interaction of oblique incident water waves with a small bottom deformation on a porous ocean-bed is examined analytically here within the framework of linear water wave theory. The upper surface of the ocean is assumed to be covered by an infinitely extended thin uniform elastic plate, while the lower surface is bounded by a porous bottom surface having a small deformation. By employing a simplified perturbation analysis, involving a small parameter c^(〈〈l ), which measures the smallness of the deformation, the governing Boundary Value Problem (BVP) is reduced to a simpler BVP for the first-order correction of the potential function. This BVP is solved using a method based on Green's integral theorem with the introduction of suitable Green's function to obtain the first-order potential, and this potential function is then utilized to calculate the first-order reflection and transmission coefficients in terms of integrals involving the shape function c(x) representing the bottom deformation. Consideration of a patch of sinusoidal ripples shows that when the quotient of twice the component of the incident field wave number propagating just below the elastic plate and the ripple wave number approaches one, the theory predicts a resonant interaction between the bed and the surface below the elastic plate. Again, for small angles of incidence, the reflected wave energy is more as compared to the other angles of incidence. It is also observed that the reflected wave energy is somewhat sensitive to the changes in the flexural rigidity of the elastic plate, the porosity of the bed and the ripple wave numbers. The main advantage of the present study is that the results for the values of reflection and transmission coefficients obtained are found to satisfy the energy-balance relation almost accurately. 展开更多

Response spectra of fixed offshore structures impacted by extreme waves are investigated based on the higher order components of the nonlinear drag force. In this way, steel jacket platforms are simplified as a mass attached to a light cantilever cylinder and their corresponding deformation response spectra are estimated by utilizing a generalized single degree of freedom system. Based on the wave data recorded in the Persian Gulf region, extreme wave loading conditions corresponding to different return periods are exerted on the offshore structures. Accordingly, the effect of the higher order components of the drag force is considered and compared to the linearized state for different sea surface levels. When the fundamental period of the offshore structure is about one third of the main period of wave loading, the results indicate the linearized drag term is not capable of achieving a reliable deformation response spectrum. 展开更多

Least-squares migration (LSM) is applied to image subsurface structures and lithology by minimizing the objective function of the observed seismic and reverse-time migration residual data of various underground reflectivity models. LSM reduces the migration artifacts, enhances the spatial resolution of the migrated images, and yields a more accurate subsurface reflectivity distribution than that of standard migration. The introduction of regularization constraints effectively improves the stability of the least-squares offset. The commonly used regularization terms are based on the L2-norm, which smooths the migration results, e.g., by smearing the reflectivities, while providing stability. However, in exploration geophysics, reflection structures based on velocity and density are generally observed to be discontinuous in depth, illustrating sparse reflectance. To obtain a sparse migration profile, we propose the super-resolution least-squares Kirchhoff prestack depth migration by solving the L0-norm-constrained optimization problem. Additionally, we introduce a two-stage iterative soft and hard thresholding algorithm to retrieve the super-resolution reflectivity distribution. Further, the proposed algorithm is applied to complex synthetic data. Furthermore, the sensitivity of the proposed algorithm to noise and the dominant frequency of the source wavelet was evaluated. Finally, we conclude that the proposed method improves the spatial resolution and achieves impulse-like reflectivity distribution and can be applied to structural interpretations and complex subsurface imaging. 展开更多

Significant wave height is an important criterion in designing coastal and offshore structures.Based on the orthogonality principle, the linear mean square estimation method is applied to calculate significant wave height in this paper.Twenty-eight-year time series of wave data collected from three ocean buoys near San Francisco along the California coast are analyzed.It is proved theoretically that the computation error will be reduced by using as many measured data as possible for the calculation of significant wave height.Measured significant wave height at one buoy location is compared with the calculated value based on the data from two other adjacent buoys.The results indicate that the linear mean square estimation method can be well applied to the calculation and prediction of significant wave height in coastal regions. 展开更多

Unlike the pier scour in bridge waterways,the local scour at offshore monopile foundations should take into account the effect of wave-current combination.Under the condition of wave-current coexistence,the water-soil interfacial scouring is usually coupled with the pore-pressure dynamics inside of the seabed.The aforementioned wave/current-pile-soil coupling process was physically modeled with a specially designed flow-structure-soil interaction flume.Experimental results indicate that superimposing a current onto the waves obviously changes the pore-pressure and the flow velocity at the bed around the pile.The concomitance of horseshoe vortex and local scour hole around a monopile proves that the horseshoe vortex is one of the main controlling mechanisms for scouring development under the combined waves and current.Based on similarity analyses,an average-velocity based Froude number(Fra)is proposed to correlate with the equilibrium scour depth(S/D)at offshore monopile foundation in the combined waves and current.An empirical expression for the correlation between S/D and Fra is given for predicting equilibrium scour depth,which may provide a guide for offshore engineering practice. 展开更多
