Compared with data of more than 20 observation stations around the Taiwan Strait, the model-produced results agree quite well with those of previous researches using observational data from coastal tidal gauge stations. According to the results, the co-tidal and co-range charts are given. Furthermore, the characteristics of 8 major tidal constituents have been uminated respectively. The result shows that: (1) The tide motion can be attributed to the interaction between the degenerative rotary tidal system in the north and the progressive tidal system in the south. (2) The southward and northward tidal waves of semi-diurnal tide converge in the middle of the Taiwan Strait while the diurnal tidal waves propagate southwestward through the Taiwan Strait and the Luzon Strait. (3) The maximum amplitude of semi-diurnal tides exists at the area between the Meizhou Bay and Xinghua Bay, and that of diurnal tides appears in the region to the east of the Leizhou Peninsula, (4) The patterns of co-tidal and co-range charts of N2, K2 and P1, Q1 tidal constituents are similar to those of M2, S2 and K1 O1 tidat constituents, respectively展开更多

Length-weight relationships and growth and mortality parameters were analyzed using FiSAT II software. Five species had isometric growth, two species had negative allometric growth, and one species had positive allometric growth. Overall, the exploitation rates of the eight species were lower in 2006 2007 than in 1997-1999: for four species (Saurida tumbil, Saurida undosquamis, Argyrosomus macrocephalus, and Nemipterus virgatus) it was lower in 2006-2007 than in 1997 1999, for two species (Parargyrops edita and Trichiurus haumela) it remained the same, and for the other two species (Trachurus japonicus and Decapterus maruadsi) it was higher in 2006~007 than in 1997-1999. The exploitation rates might have declined because of the decline in fishing intensity caused by high crude oil prices. The optimum exploitation rate, estimated using Beverton-Holt dynamic pool models, indicated that although fishes in the Beibu Gulf could sustain high exploitation rates, the under-size fishes at first capture resulted in low yields. To increase the yield per recruitment, it is more effective to increase the size at first capture than to control fishing effort.展开更多

Secondary production estimates for macrofauna and meiofauna were made separately. Total benthic secondary production was as high as 8.38 ±4.08 g ash-free dry weight (AFDW) m^-2 a^-1, which represented the autumn production level. In general, macrofaunal secondary production in Laizhou Bay was much lower than that in adjacent Bohai Sea areas. In contrast, meiofaunal secondary production in Laizhou Bay was higher than that in adjacent Bohai Sea areas. Macrofatma contributed 61% to benthic secondary production (5.09 ±3.26 g AFDW m^-2 a^-1), lower than the value in previous studies in Bohai Sea. Sediment granulometric characteristics and bottom-water salinity could explain the substantial variability in the macrofauna biomass and production. Meiofaunal production was an important component of benthic production and exceeded macrofauna production under exceptional conditions, e.g. in Laizhou Bay, where macrofauna was restricted. Chlorophyll pigments (Chl-a) concentrations in sediment explained the general meiofaunal biomass and production distribution here.展开更多
