Trends in Temperature and Precipitation Extremes over Circum-Bohai-Sea Region,China 被引量:7

Trends in temperature and precipitation extremes from 1961 to 2008 have been investigated over Circum-Bohai-Sea region, China using daily temperature and precipitation data of 63 meteorological stations. The re- suits show that at most stations, there is a significant increase in the annual frequency of warm days and warm nights, as well as a significant decrease in the annual frequency of cold days, cold nights, frost days, and annual diurnal tem- perature range (DTR). Their regional averaged changes are 2.06 d/1 0yr, 3.95 d/10yr, -1.88 d/10yr, -4.27 d/10yr, -4.21 d/10yr and -0.20℃/10yr, respectively. Seasonal changes display similar patterns to the annual results, but there is a large seasonal difference. A significant warming trend is detected at both annual and seasonal scales, which is more contributed by changes of indices defined by daily minimum temperature than those defined by daily maximum tem- perature. For precipitation indices, the regional annual extreme precipitation displays a weak decrease in terms of magnitude and frequency, i.e. extreme precipitation days (RD95p), intensity (RINTEN), proportion (RPROP) and maximum consecutive wet days (CWD), but a slight increase in the maximum consecutive dry days (CDD), which are consistent with changes of annual total precipitation (PRCPTOT). Seasonally, PRCPTOT and RD95p both exhibit an increase in spring and a decrease in other seasons with the largest decrease in summer, but generally not significant. In summary, this study shows a pronounced warming tendency at the less rainy period over Circum-Bohai-Sea region, which may affect regional economic development and ecological protection to some extent. 展开更多

The South China Sea is rich in wind and wave energy resources,and the wind-wave combined power generation device is currently in the concept research and development stage.In recent years,extreme sea conditions such as super typhoons have frequently occurred,which poses a serious challenge to the safety of offshore floating platforms.In view of the lack of safety analysis of wind-wave combined power generation devices in extreme sea conditions at present,this paper takes the OC4-WEC combined with semi-submersible wind turbine(Semi-OC4)and the oscillating buoy wave energy converter as the research object,and establishes a mesoscale WRF-SWANFVCOM(W-S-F)real-time coupling platform based on the model coupling Toolkit(MCT)to analyze the spatial and temporal evolution of wind-wave-current in offshore wind farms during the whole process of super typhoon“Rammasun”transit.Combined with the medium/small scale nested method,the flow field characteristics of OC4-WEC platform are analyzed.The results show that the simulation accuracy of the established W-S-F platform for typhoon track is 42.51%higher than that of the single WRF model.Under the action of typhoon-wave-current,the heave motion amplitude of OC4-WEC platform is reduced by 38.1%,the surge motion amplitude is reduced by 26.7%,and the pitch motion amplitude is reduced by 23.4%. 展开更多

This study analyzed the trends in extreme high temperature in Southwest China based on the observed daily maximum temperature and average temperature data from 410 Chinese stations recently released by the China Meteorological Administration.The authors found that the trends in extreme high temperature at different altitudes of Southwest China exhibit staged variations during a recent 50-year period(1961–2014).The trends in mean temperature and maximum temperature also exhibit phase variation.All temperature-related variables increase gently during the period 1975–94,whereas they increase dramatically during the recent period of 1995–2014,with a rate that is approximately two to ten times more than that during 1975–94.In addition,the trends in mean temperature,maximum temperature,and the frequency of extreme high temperature in the low altitudes transit from negative to positive in the two periods,while they increase dramatically in the mid-and high-altitude areas during 1995–2014,the well-known global warming hiatus period.In particular,the maximum temperature increases much faster than that of average temperature.This result implies that the regional temperature trend could be apparently different from the global mean temperature change. 展开更多

Whether recent Arctic sea ice loss is responsible for recent severe winters over mid-latitude continents has emerged as a major debate among climate scientists owing to short records of observations and large internal variability in mid- and high-latitudes. In this study, the authors divide the evolution of autumn Arctic sea ice extent during 1979–2014 into three epochs, 1979–1986(high), 1987–2006(moderate), and 2007–2014(low), using a regime shift identification method. The authors then compare the associations between autumn Arctic sea ice and winter climate anomalies over central and eastern Eurasia for the three epochs with a focus on extreme events. The results show robust and detectable signals of Arctic sea ice loss in weather and climate over western Siberia and East Asia. Associated with sea ice loss, the latitude(speed) of the jet stream shifts southward(reduces),the wave extent amplifies, and blocking high events increase over the Ural Mountains, leading to increased frequency of cold air outbreaks extending from central Asia to northeast China. These associations bear a high degree of similarity to the observed atmospheric anomalies during the low sea ice epoch. By contrast, the patterns of atmospheric anomalies for the high sea ice epoch are different from those congruent with sea ice variability, which is related to the persistent negative phase of the Arctic Oscillation. 展开更多

Hanh Stream reservoir has occurred great flood in 1986, 2010. In the future, the risk of flooding is possible to happen again. In view of management of the risk of natural disasters: large flooding situation downstream is one of the most dangerous risks for the reservoir. Due to downstream of Hanh Stream reservoir is a narrow coastal plains, quick infrastructure development, especially interwoven road and railway systems, so that flood drainage ability will be affected greatly. The consciousness of risks that may be occurred in the future in order to propose preventive measures and proactive response to minimize damages always is the requirement for all projects. The hydrodynamic calculation, flooding maps, emergency plan to prevent flooding downstream of Hanh Stream reservoir is also needed. The article is raised the issue of requirements to calculate coastal narrow delta strip flooding in the Central of Vietnam when impacted by the upstream reservoir of flood discharge in terms of extreme heavy rain and flooding and presented computational methods of Mike software package for case flooded plain of Cam Ranh Bay in downstream reservoirs of Hanh Stream, Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam. 展开更多

A jack-up platform, with its particular structure, showed obvious dynamic characteristics under complex environmental loads in extreme conditions. In this paper, taking a simplified 3-D finite element dynamic model in extreme storm conditions as research object, a transient dynamic analysis method was proposed, which was under both regular and irregular wave loads. The steps of dynamic analysis under extreme conditions were illustrated with an applied case, and the dynamic amplification factor (DAF) was calculated for each response parameter of base shear, overturning moment and hull sway. Finally, the structural response results of dynamic and static were compared and analyzed. The results indicated that the static strength analysis of the Jack-up Platforms was not enough under the dynamic loads including wave and current, further dynamic response analysis considering both computational efficiency and accuracy was necessary. 展开更多

Thioredoxin (Trx) proteins are involved in many biological processes especially the regulation of cellular redox homeostasis. In this study, two Trx cDNAs were cloned from the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis using rapid amplification of cDNA ends-polymerase chain reaction (RACE-PCR). The two cDNAs were named MgTrxl and MgTrx2, respectively. The open reading frames of MgTrxl and MgTrx2 were 318 and 507 base pairs (bp) and they encoded proteins of 105 and 168 amino acids with estimated molecular masses of 11.45 and 18.93 kDa, respectively. Sequence analysis revealed that both proteins possessed the conserved active site dithiol motif Cys-Gly-Pro-Cys. In addition, MgTrx2 also possessed a putative mitochondrial targeting signal suggesting that it is located in the mitochondria. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) revealed that both MgTrxl and MgTrx2 were constitutively expressed in all tissues examined. The MgTrxl transcript was most abundant in hemocytes and gills, whereas the MgTrx2 transcript was most abundant in gonad, hepatopancreas, gill and hemocytes. Following Vibrio anguillarum challenge, the expression of MgTrxl was up-regulated and reached its peak, at a value 10-fold the initial value, at 24 h. Subsequently, expression returned back to the original level. In contrast, the expression level of MgTrx2 was down-regulated following bacterial stimulation, with one fifth of the control level evident at 12 h post challenge. These results suggest that MgTrxl and MgTrx2 may play important roles in the response ofM. galloprovincialis to bacterial challenge. 展开更多

Solar evaporation has emerged as an attractive technology to produce freshwater by utilizing renewable solar energy.However,it remains a huge challenge to develop efficient solar steam generators with good flexibility,low cost and remarkable salt resistance.Herein,we prepare flexible,robust solar membranes by filtration of porous carbon and commercial paper pulp fiber.The porous carbon with well-defined structures is prepared through controlled carbonization of biomass/waste plastics by eutectic salts.We prove the synergistic effect of porous carbon and paper pulp fiber in boosting solar evaporation performance.Firstly,the porous carbon displays a high light absorption,while the paper pulp fiber with good hydrophilicity effectively promotes the transport of water.Secondly,the combination between porous carbon and paper pulp fiber reduces the water vaporization enthalpy by 20%,which is important to significantly improve the evaporation performance.As a proof of concept,the porous carbon/paper pulp fiber membrane possesses a high evaporation rate of 1.8 kg m^(-2)h^(-1)under 1 kW m^(-2)irradiation.Thirdly,the good flexibility and mechanical property of paper pulp fiber enable the solar membrane to work well under extreme conditions(e.g.,after 20 cycles of folding/stretching/recovery).Lastly,due to the super-hydrophilicity and superwetting,the hybrid membrane exhibits the exceptional salt resistance and long-term stability in continuous seawater desalination,e.g.,for 50 h.Importantly,a large-scale solar desalination device for outdoor experiments is developed to produce freshwater.Consequently,this work provides a new insight into developing advanced flexible solar evaporators with superb performance in seawater desalination. 展开更多

Understanding the characteristics of the dynamic relationship between the onshore Ren- minbi (CNY) and the offshore Renminbi (CNH) exchange rates considering the impact of some extreme events is very important and it has wide implications in several areas such as hedging. For better esti- mating the dynamic relationship between CNY and CNH, the Granger-causality test and Bry-Boschan Business Cycle Dating Algorithm were employed in this paper. Due to the intrinsic complexity of the lead-lag relationships between CNY and CNH, the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) algorithm is used to decompose those time series data into several intrinsic mode function (IMF) components and a residual sequence, from high to low frequency. Based on the frequencies, the IMFs and a residual sequence are combined into three components, identified as short-term composition caused by some market activities, medium-term composition caused by some extreme events and the long-term trend.The empirical results indicate that when it only matters the short-term market activities, CNH always leads CNY; while the medium-term impact caused by those extreme events may alternate the lead-lag relationships between CNY and CNH. 展开更多
