The purpose of the paper is to outline the parameters of a LCC (linguistically centered concept) of developing ME (maritime English) teaching materials for non-native learners who are beginning their maritime academic career. The paper introduces initial notions on applying linguistic criteria as the basic ones in the process of creating ME textbooks. Through the historical development and under the influence of extra linguistic factors (globalization of the shipping industry, in particular), ME has accumulated and stored various resources being in current use: vocabulary, grammar and phonology, operational and semiotic systems, specific means of communication, functional models, patterns of narration and description, etc.. The proper linguistic analysis makes a secure foundation for methodology which can guarantee a better quality of ME course books for the 1st and 2nd year maritime students all over the world. 展开更多

Significant loss of life and damage to properties, ecosystems and marine facilities occur due to various natural hazards such as cyclones and tsunamis. Royal HaskoningDHV has developed regional hydrodynamic and wave models covering the Northern Arabian Sea to address these issues. Cyclone modelling was carried out on 11 major cyclones since 1945 and the tsunami modelling on an earthquake along the Makran Fault Line in 1945. Sample results from these modelling studies are presented in this paper. The methodology described in this article for modelling cyclones and tsunamis in the Arabian Sea could be applied to simulate these natural hazards at other sites around the world. 展开更多

And then the author discusses the theory from the aspects of succinct words and symbolism. On the dimensions of describing scenery, portraying figures and describing psychology, Hemingway's style is seemingly rather simple and direct. On the other hand, the theme of Hemingway's works is symbolic and provides much room for thinking. Hemingway endowed his works with symbolic meanings by using the methods of pun and coda. Charophytes or stoneworts constitute a group of macrophytes that occur mostly in fresh-water environments but can also be found in brackish waters. Knowledge about stoneworts in Albania is still scarce and incomplete. According to published data on charoflora of Albania, there are 24 species and four genera known from different freshwater habitats. The present work is based on plant material sampled from 5 slightly brackish-water temporary ponds in the coastal area of Velipoja (north Albania). During spring and summer of 2013-2015, field surveys were carried out with the main purpose of filling knowledge gaps concerning brackish water charophytes. Altogether seven species were identified: four typical of brackish water habitat (Chara baltica, Chara canescens, Chara galioides and Chara connivens) and three of broader tolerance ( Chara aspera, Chara vulgaris and Tolypella glomerata). The first three species, which considered as the rarest and most threatened on the Balkans were found for the first time in Albania. 展开更多

This paper summarizes some useful and efficient methods and practices to make teaching more effective and to help students learn better on the basis of integrated teaching approaches, especially, the CBI, the communicative approach, the natural approach. Language is being taught depend on the students' analysis. Successful learning should be learner-centered and in real-life communication. Teacher needs to supply authentic materials, good comprehensible input and low the affective filter to motivate the students learning.
