The transformation temperatures of the alloy can be adjusted effectively by heat treatment. Dense and stable SiO2 coatings were deposited on the surface of the pre-oxidized TiNi alloy by sol?gel method. The bonding strength of films and matrix was (65.9±1.5) N. The electrochemical corrosion test shows that the TiNi alloy with SiO2 coating has excellent corrosion resistance in the Hank’s simulated body fluid. The release behaviors of Ni ion of the alloy with and without SiO2 coating implanted in the acoustic vesicle of guinea pig were studied by EDS testing, which was inhibited effectively by the dense and stable SiO2 coating on the alloy.展开更多

Our approach uses polyethersulfone (PES) with N-methyl-2- pyrrolidone (NMP) as a water-soluble solvent to form a dense, low-porosity film across the clay-rich interburden layers, but a porous and permeable membrane on coal seams. This contrasting behaviour occurs because the coal contains much more free water than the clay-rich interburden layers. We demonstrate the efficacy of the method to prevent clay spalling in immersion tests and under a flow of fresh water in a visual swell test apparatus. The clay-rich rocks studied were mudstone and siltstone, and these were dip coated in the PES/NMP solution. The uncoated mudstone swelled and broke apart quickly in the immersion test and visual flow test, but the PES coated rock samples were stable for 30 days. The coated rock and coal samples were characterised by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The morphology of coated mudstone and coated coal samples showed that the polymer formed a dense layer across the low-permeability mudstone, but an open porous structure on the coal surface. The effect of the coating on the permeability of KCl brine through coal was measured in a core-flood apparatus. Although the permeability of the coal showed some deterioration after coating, from (0.58 ± 0.12) mD to (0.3 ±0.03) mD, these results demonstrate the potential of a smart polymer coating to prevent clay swelling while remaining permeable to gas and water on coal layers.展开更多

However, fast degradation and poor surface biocompatibility hinder their clinical applications. Inspired by the "petal effect", we successfully constructed a superhydrophobic and highly adhesive coating on pure Mg via a simple hydrothermal treatment in a solution containing sodium oleate. The superhydrophobicity of the fabricated coating results from its flake-like micro-nanostructure and the low-surface-energy oleate group. Water droplet on the superhydrophobic coating cannot roll off even when the sample is turned upside down, owing to the sealed air-pockets and the van der Waals’ attraction at the solidliquid interface, indicating a highly adhesive force. The chemical and mechanical stability of the superhydrophobic coating were measured. Potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements suggest enhanced corrosion resistance of the as-prepared sample.Furthermore, cell cytotoxicity, migration and adhesion data of human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs) reveal an improved cytocompatibility of the modified surface. Finally, hemolysis assay and platelet adhesion assay suggest an improved hemocompatibility. It is believed that the facile and low-cost method can expand the new application of superhydrophobic surface with highly adhesive on Mg in biomedical fields.展开更多
