Thecharacteristic features of the stirred tank, such as gas cavity andaccumulation of gas at the two sides of wall baffles, can be capturedby the simulation. The simulated results agree well with availableexperimental data. Since the improved inner-outer iterative algorithmdemands on empirical formula and experimental data for the impellerregion, and the approach seems generally applicable for simulatinggas-liquid stirred tanks.展开更多

The results show that under a continuous and stable operating condition, as the paddle speed increases, the macromixing time and micromixing time calculated by the two models both decrease, even in a linkage equilibrium state. Simultaneously, as the paddle speed increases, the results figured by the two models tend to be consistent. It indicates that two models both are more suitable for calculation of mixing time in high paddle speed. Compared with the existing experimental results of this type of reactor, the mixing time computed in the speed of 1500 r/min is closer to it. These conclusions can provide an important reference for systematically studying the strengthening mechanism of LISR under continuous mixing conditions.展开更多

The rheological properties of erucicamide dimethyl amidopropyl betaine (EDAB)-HC1 acid blended system and its suitability as fracturing fluid were investigated in this work. The effects of pH, concentration of EDAB, and temperature on the rheological properties of the blended system were studied. The results show that addition of EDAB improved the viscosity of the system from less than 10 mPa. s to about 400 mPa. s, which could retard the acid-rock reaction to about one half at 60℃ and one quarter at 90℃ comparing to straight HC1 acid, suggesting that there is sufficient time for the blended fluid to react with formation rock when it is used as fracturing fluid in an oil field. Core flow tests demonstrated that the EDAB-acid blended fluid could divert itself from high permeability formation core to low permeability one, thus ensuring proper acid placement in the target reservoirs.展开更多

The values measured for the impinging velocity, u0, under the conditions of SCISR normal operation, only is of the order of 0.1m·s^-1, are much slower than that inferred, suggesting low power requirement for operation. The values of the characteristic time constant for micromixing,tM, determined in the impinging velocity range of 0.184m·s^-1 < u0 < 0.326m·s^-1 are ranged from 192ms to 87 ms, showing that impinging streams promotes micromixing very efficiently. The data follow approximately the relationship of tM∝ u0^-1.5. A comparative study shows that the micromixing performance of SCISR is much better than that of the traditional stirred tank reactor. The tM values predicted with the existing theoretical model are systematically longer than those measured by about 2--3 times, implying that the regularity of impinging streams promoting micromixing is unclear yet.展开更多

The flow field, gas hold-up, dissolved oxygen, power consumption before and after gassing were studied using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique. Dispersion of gas in the liquid was modelled using the Eulerian-Eulerian approach along with the dispersed k-e turbulent model. Rotation of the impeller was simulated with the multiple reference frame method. A modified drag coefficient which includes the effect of turbulence was used to account for the momentum exchange. The predictions were compared with their counterparts of the standard Rushton impeller and were validated with the experimental results. It is concluded that the dislocated-blade Rushton impeller is superior to the standard Rushton impeller in the gas-liquid mixing operation, and the findings obtained here lay the basis of its application in process industries.展开更多

The simulation cases are designed by using the orthogonal design method. The Eulerian-Lagrangian formulation is employed for modeling the droplets-crossflow two-phase flow while the realizable k-ε turbulence model is used to describe the turbulence. A new index, mixedness quality, is proposed to assess the overall mixing of the droplets in the crossflow. The simulation results demonstrate that the counter-rotating vortex pair (CVP) imposes a more significant impact on the spatial distribution than on the size distribution of the droplets. Pairs of CVP with smaller scales are preferable for achieving a better mixing. The influencing factors are listed in the following order in terms of the degree of their impact from the greatest to the least: the Sauter diameter of the initial droplets, the mixing tube diameter, the spray angle, the velocity of the inlet crossflow, and the vertical velocity of the initial droplets. A moderate droplet diameter, a smaller tube diameter, a moderate spray angle, a greater crossflow velocity and a moderate vertical velocity of the droplet are favorable for achieving a higher mixedness quality of the jet spray in a confined crossflow.展开更多

In the present paper, firstly, some applications of the mists sprayed by the atomizer are described. Secondly, the performance of the twin-fluid atomizer with best performance was compared with those of the commercial twin-fluid MMA100 type together with the single-fluid swirl type. In the CO2 adsorption tests, mists were sprayed five minutes by the respective types in turn in a test room, and time variations of CO2 concentration in air after the introduction of CO2 in the room were measured at the bottom of the room to compare the CO2 adsorption rates by the mists for the respective cases. In addition, diameters of droplets for the respective types were measured with a microscope. As a result, superiority of our twin-fluid atomizer was confirmed, because 40% droplets were 20 to 40 μm in diameter, and the CO2 adsorption rate by the mists with our twin-fluid atomizer was 25% higher than that with the commercial ones.展开更多
