STATE-OF-ART ON CORROSION AND PREVENTION OF REINFORCED CONCRETE

The corrosion causes of rebar in concrete under corrosive environment are analyzed and discussed. It is mainly suffered from the penetration of corrosive species from environment in to the surface of rebar. Corrosion is initiated by penetration of chlorides and breakdown of passivation, and then propagated by crack of concrete induced by st ress from volume expansion of corrosion product of rebar in succession. Some eff ective countermeasures for corrosion prevention for reinforced concrete are brie fly specified and discussed. Finally, some important techniques commonly used or to be developed are also suggested.
