In order to construct a completely integrated control design philosophy to reduce torque ripple and at the same time to enhance tracking performance, the properties of nonlinear uncertainties in the system dynamics are uncovered, and then incorporated into the design of the controller. The system uncertainties concerned with ripple dynamics and other external disturbances are composed of two categories. The first category of uncertainties with linear parameterization arising from the detention effect is dealt with by the wellknown adaptive control method. A robust adaptive method is used to deal with the second category of uncertainties resulting from the non-sinusoidal flux distribution. The μ-modification scheme is used to cease parameter adaptation by the robust adaptive control law, thus ensuring that the trajectory tracking error asymptotically converges to a pre-specified boundary. Experiments are performed with a typical hybrid stepping motor to test its profile tracking accuracy. Results confirm the proposed control scheme.展开更多

By employing modulus of resilience as the damage hardening variable, a damage variable related with dynamic modulus was extracted as the evaluation index. Then, the damage evolution law under two control modes was proposed, and it has a similar form to the Chaboche fatigue model with a nonnegative material parameter m related to its loading level. Experimental data of four loading levels were employed to calibrate the model and identify the parameter in both control modes. It is found that the parameter m shows an exponential relationship with its loading level. Besides, the difference of damage evolution under two control modes was explained by the law. The damage evolves from fast to slow under a controlled-strain mode. However, under a controlled-stress mode, the evolution rate is just the opposite. By using the damage equivalence principle to calculate the equivalent cycle numbers, the deduced model also interprets the difference of damage evolution under two control modes on the condition of multilevel loading. Under a controlled-strain mode, a loading sequence from a low level to a high level accelerates damage evolution. An inverse order under the controlled-stress mode can prolong fatigue life.展开更多

A Prandtl-Ishlinskii model was developed to characterize the hysteresis of magnetic shape memory alloy actuator. Based on the proposed Prandtl-Ishlinskii model, the inverse Prandtl-Ishlinskii model was established as a feedforward controller to compensate the hysteresis of the magnetic shape memory alloy actuator. For further improving of the positioning precision of the magnetic shape memory alloy actuator, a hybrid control method with hysteresis nonlinear model in feedforward loop was proposed. The control method is separated into two parts: a feedforward loop with inverse Prandtl-Ishlinskii model and a feedback loop with neural network controller. To validate the validity of the proposed control method, a series of simulations and experiments were researched. The simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the maximum error rate of open loop controller based on inverse PI model is 1.72%, the maximum error rate of the hybrid controller based on inverse PI model is 1.37%.展开更多

The effectiveness of control deteriorates based on an inaccurate mathematical model, creating slow response speed and high jitter. To solve these problems, a model-free adaptive control (MFAC) scheme is proposed for a three-degree-of-freedom hybrid magnetic bearing (3-DoF HMB) control system. The scheme for 3-DoF HMB depends only on the control current and the objective balanced position, and it does not involve any model information. The design process of a parameter estimation algorithm is model-free, based directly on pseudo-partial-derivative (PPD) derived online from the input and output data information. The rotor start-of-suspension position of the HMB is regulated by auxiliary bearings with different inner diameters, and two kinds of operation situations (linear and nonlinear areas) are present to analyze the validity of MFAC in detail. Both simulations and experiments demonstrate that the proposed MFAC scheme handles the 3-DoF HMB control system with start-of-suspension response speed, smaller steady state error, and higher stability.展开更多

It is used to improve fuel economy and to sustain a proper battery state of charge by controlling the power components while satisfying various constraints and driving demands. However, achieving an optimal control performance is challenging due to the nonlinearities of the hybrid powertrain, the time varying constraints, and the dilemma in which controller complexity and real-time capability are generally conflicting objectives. In this paper, a real-time capable cascaded control strategy is proposed for a dual-mode hybrid electric vehicle that considers nonlinearities of the system and complies with all time-varying constraints. The strategy consists of a supervisory controller based on a non-linear model predictive control (MPC) with a long sampling time interval and a coordinating controller based on linear model predictive control with a short sampling time interval to deal with different dynamics of the system. Additionally, a novel data based methodology using adaptive Markov chains to predict future load demand is introduced. The predictive future information is used to improve controller performance. The proposed strategy is implemented on a real test-bed and experimental trials using unknown driving cycles are conducted. The results demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach and show that fuel economy is significantly improved compared with other methods.展开更多
