Specimens were tested to investigate the effects of the concrete strength, the thickness of steel tube and the steel fiber volume fraction on the ultimate strength and the ductility. The experimental results indicate that the addition of steel fibers in concrete can significantly improve the ductility and the energy dissipation capacity of the concrete-filled steel tube columns and delay the local buckling of the steel tube, but has no obvious effect on the failure mode. It has also been found that the addition of steel fibers is a more effective method than using thicker steel tube in enhancing the ductility, and more advantageous in the case of higher strength concrete. An analytical model to estimate the load capacity is proposed for steel tube columns filled with both plain concrete and steel fiber reinforced concrete. The predicted results are in good agreement with the experimental ones obtained in this work and literatures.展开更多

We aimed to predict the shear strength of concrete beams reinforced with FRP bars and without stirrups by compiling a relatively large database of 198 previously published test results (available in appendix). To model shear strength, an artificial neural network was trained by an ensemble of Levenberg-Marquardt and imperialist competitive algorithms. The results suggested superior accuracy of model compared to equations available in specifications and literature.展开更多

The effectiveness of confining CFRP sheet on improving the flexural ductility of tmstrengthened T-section beams was studied. The parameters such as the width and the thickness of CFRP sheet and the type of T-section were analyzed. The experimental results show that ductility and rotation capacity of plastic hinge can be improved by the confinement of CFRP sheet, and the ductility indices increase with the increment of width and thickness of CFRP sheet. A plastic rotation model considering the width of CFRP sheet and the effect of flange of T-section beam is proposed on the basis of the model of BAKER, and the test results show a good agreement with the perdicted results. The relevant construction suggestions for seismic retrofitting design of beam-slabs system in cast-in-place framework structure are presented.展开更多

The variations in this experiment are the increasing of Fe extracting 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% of concrete volume. Water Cement Ratio (WCR) variation of 0.48, 0.56 and 0.60. The result of increasing 1.5% Fe extracting causes the increasing of tension strength 44.028 kN/cm2, the increasing of slit tension strength 2.226 kN/cm2, the increasing of bending moment 14.81 kN/cm2 from normal concrete. 0.48 WCR produces tension strength, slit tension strength and bending moment more than 0.56 and 0.60 WCR. The increasing of Fe extracting with the distribution variation area and the spread concrete in the tension concrete area produce 3.705 kN/cm2 bending moment higher than the spread fiber in all of concrete area. The 4 cm fiber length produces the higher bending moment than the 2 cm fiber length. The difference is equally 5.185 kN/cm2. The combination result of the examined acting varieties by continuation statistic test gives the result to get the maximum tension and split tensile. It is a concrete combination of increasing 1.5% fiber percentage, 0.48 WCR, full spreading area and the 4 cm fiber length. The maximum bending moment is the increasing of 0.5% fiber percentage, 0.48 WCR, full spreading area and the 4 cm fiber length.展开更多

To improve the strength and durability of concrete, some additives can be added into concrete to replace parts of cement. Carbon fiber and silica powder are the most common additives. Under a series of experiments, the effects of temperature, carbon fiber and silica powder on the mechanical properties of concrete were studied under normal circumstances. In this paper, a conclusion on the effects was drawn up mainly through some experimental analyses, so as to discuss the effect laws and provide a reference to manufacture the concrete of high strength and properties.展开更多

The two mixtures (plain and fiber reinforced) were developed using materials local to southern New Mexico, USA. Three different curing regimens were investigated for the mixture with fibers and one curing regimen was studied for the mixture without fibers. All curing regimens included 24 h of ambient curing followed by four days of wet curing at 50 ℃, and then two days dry curing at 200 ℃. At an age of seven days, one batch of fiber reinforced specimens was air cured at ambient conditions for the following six days and then placed in a water bath at 4.4 ℃ for 24 h prior to initiating freezing and thawing cycles. The second batch was air cured from day seven to day 12, and then wet cured for one day at 23 ℃ prior to being placed in the 4.4 ℃ water bath. The final batch was wet cured at 23 ℃ from the seventh day to an age of 13 days and then placed in the 4.4 ℃ water bath. The mixture with no fibers was air cured from the seventh day to an age of 12 days and then wet cured for one day at 23 ℃ prior to being placed in the 4.4 ℃ water bath. Higher moisture levels during curing produced greater initial dynamic elastic modulus values and durability factors at the end of the freezing and thawing tests, with the greatest durability factor being 87.5. Steel fibers were observed to improve both compressive strength and durability factor for UHSC.展开更多

The FRP-confined concrete has powerful confinement status and weak confinement status leading to different equations of parabola. We analyzed the impacts of factors such as confinement ratio and restrain stiffness on confined concrete compressive strength, ultimate strain and other control parameters through finite element analysis. The results show that the confinement ratio determines the confinement status, and the increase of the confinement ratio has a limited capacity to increase the compressive strength. The deformation of confined concrete is influenced by restrain stiffness. The stronger the restrain stiffness is,the less the lateral deformation is and the greater ultimate axial strain will be. The consideration of equivalent section coefficient kse is needed in the non-circular section confined concrete. We analyzed the results and proposed boundary values of strong and weak confinement styles,a peak/inflection point stress and strain model, and a compressive strength and ultimate strain model.展开更多

The performance of AAC-PP is investigated in terms of compressive strength, flexural strength, splitting tensile strength, porosity, heat and humidity capacity. The results are compared with control specimen made of autoclaved aerated concrete only (Non-AAC-PP). Results showed that ultimate compressive strength, flexural strength and splitting tensile strength can be obtained when the content of polypropylene fiber added at 0.75% by volume while porosity of specimens rapidly decreased when content of fiber addition increased above 1% of its volume. Additional, a comparison study of heat and humidity transfer properties on AAC-PP walls showed that the AAC-PP house had lower indoor air and moisture content than (Non-AAC-PP) house. Therefore, addition PP fiber on AAC increased mechanical properties, enhanced hygrothermal performance and reducing moisture content under tropical climate of Bangkok.展开更多
