The energies of some configurations exhibit long duration before those configurations reach the final state -- ground state or frozen stripe state. For ground-state dynamical realization, the duration occurs when the energy per spin is 4/L, where L is the lattice size. For stripe-state dynamical realization, the energy is slightly higher than 2/L when the duration appears in the last evolution stage. In addition, it is found that the average energy per spin in final state is approximately 2/3L.展开更多

The present research shows that the ability of Ni to bind to peat increases as the pH value increases. The solutions reach adsorption equilibrium rapidly. A reasonable kinetic model, first-order in nickel concentration, has been developed and fitted to the adsorption of nickel (Ⅱ) onto peat. The first-order model provides a good correlation to the experimental data. The characteristic parameters of the Langmuir isotherm were determined at various temperatures. The relationship between kinetics and equilibrium isotherms was established through the forward- and backward-rate-constants, k~ and k2, and the equilibrium constant, K.展开更多

The most dominant characteristic was that of the out- of-phase variation between southwestern and northeastern parts of the SCS, which was influenced primarily by the net surface heat flux and by horizontal thermal advection. The negative SSTA in the northeastern SCS was caused mainly by the loss of heat to the atmosphere and because of the cold-water advection from the western Pacific through the Luzon Strait during E1 Nifio episodes. Conversely, it was found that the anomalous large-scale atmospheric circulation and weakened western boundary current during E1 Nifio episodes led to the development of the positive SSTA in the southwestern SCS.展开更多

Rapid pyrolysis of oil shale in fluidized bed(FB) obtained shale oil yield higher than the Fischer Assay oil yield at temperatures of 500-600 ℃. The highest yield was 12.7 wt% at 500 ℃ and was about1.3 times of the Fischer Assay oil yield. The heavy fraction(boiling point > 350 ℃) in shale oil at all temperatures from rapid pyrolysis was above 50%. Adding an upper FB of secondary cracking over oil shale char caused the loss of shale oil but improved its quality. Heavy fraction yield decreased significantly and almost disappeared at temperatures above 550 ℃, while the corresponding light fraction(boiling point < 350 ℃) yield dramatically increased. In terms of achieving high light fraction yield, the optimal pyrolysis and also secondary cracking temperatures in TSFB were 600 ℃, at which the shale oil yield decreased by 17.74% but its light fraction yield of 7.07 wt% increased by 86.11% in comparison with FB pyrolysis. The light fraction yield was higher than that of Fischer Assay at all cases in TSFB. Thus, a rapid pyrolysis of oil shale combined with volatile upgrading was important for producing high-quality shale oil with high yield as well.展开更多

The effect of plant growth stage on the development of the disease was evaluated. Seven sugar beet varieties were tested for resistance to R. solani AG 2-2IIIB and AG 4. To detect differences in leaf temperature between/L solani inoculated plants and non-infected plants, an infrared (IR) camera was tested. High incidence of R. solani AG 2-2IIIB and AG 4 in sugar beet plants was evident when the fungal inoculum was applied to two and four weeks old plants. At four weeks after sowing, it was the optimum time to inoculate sugar beet plants in order to generate R. solani infection, since at this time all plants were infected. Significant differences were detected regarding disease incidence between sugar beet varieties inoculated with different anastomosis groups. Leaf temperature was significant different between inoculated and non-inoculated plants, demonstrated that this technique could be a new tool for breeders to screen for resistance of new varieties.展开更多

This study systematically analyzed the dynamical processes responsible for the genesis of these events. It was found that the weak 2014 El Nio had two warming phases, the spring-summer warming was produced by zonal advection and downwelling Kelvin waves driven by westerly wind bursts(WWBs), and the autumn-winter warming was produced by meridional advection, surface heating as well as downwelling Kelvin waves. The 2015/2016 extreme El Nio, on the other hand, was primarily a result of sustained zonal advection and downwelling Kelvin waves driven by a series of WWBs, with enhancement from the Bjerknes positive feedback. The vast difference between these two El Nio events mainly came from the different amount of WWBs in 2014 and 2015. As compared to the 1982/1983 and 1997/1998 extreme El Nio events, the 2015/2016 El Nio exhibited some distinctive characteristics in its genesis and spatial pattern. We need to include the effects of WWBs to the theoretical framework of El Nio to explain these characteristics, and to improve our understanding and prediction of El Nio.展开更多

An examination of changes in crop phenology and the mechanisms driving them is critical for guiding regional agricultural activities in attempts to adapt to climate change. Due to a lack of records based on continuous long-term observation, studies on changes in multiple consecutive phenological stages throughout a whole growing season on a national scale are rarely found, especially with regard to the spatiotemporal differentiation of phenological changes. Using a long-term dataset(1981-2010) of wheat phenology collected from 48 agro-meteorological stations in China, we qualified the spatiotemporal changes of 10 phenological stages as well as the length of wheat growth phases. Results showed that climate and wheat phenology changed significantly during the growing seasons from 1981 to 2010. On average, on a national scale, dates of sowing(0.19 d a-1), emergence(0.06 d a-1), trefoil(0.05 d a-1), and milk ripe(0.06 d a-1) showed a delaying trend, whereas dates of tillering(-0.02 d a-1), jointing(-0.15 d a-1),booting(-0.21 d a-1), heading(-0.17 d a-1), anthesis(-0.19 d a-1), and maturity(-0.10 d a-1) showed an advancing trend.Furthermore, the vegetative growth phase and growing season were shortened by 0.23 and 0.29 d a-1, respectively, whereas the reproductive growth phase was lengthened by 0.06 d a-1. Trends in dates of phenological stages or length of growing phases varied across wheat-planting regions. Moreover, spatiotemporal differentiation of sensitivity in growing season length(GSL) to variations in climatic factors during the growing season between spring and winter wheat were remarkable. The GSL of spring(winter) wheat decreased(increased) with an increase in average temperature during the growing season. In all wheat-planting regions, the GSL increased with the increasing of total precipitation and sunshine duration during the growing season. In particular, the sensitivity of GSL to precipitation for spring wheat was weaker than for winter wheat, while the sensitivity of GSL to sunshine duration for spring wheat was stronger than for winter wheat. Recognition of the spatiotemporal differentiation of phenological changes and their response to various climatic factors will provide scientific support for decision-making in agricultural production.展开更多

Microstructures of both the β-air-cooled and the rolled specimens were well characterized by electron channelling contrast imaging and electron backscatter diffraction techniques, with special attentions paid to their misorientation characteristics. Results show that the β-air-cooled specimen owns a Widmanst?tten structure featured by lamellar grains with typical phase transformation misorientations. The 10% rolling allows prismatic slip and tensile twinning({11-21}<11-2-6> and{10-12}<10-11>) to be activated profusely, which produce new low-angle(~3°–5°) and high-angle(~35° and ~85°) misorientation peaks, respectively. After increasing the rolling reduction to 50%, twinning is suppressed and dislocation slip becomes the dominant deformation mode, with the lamellar grains highly elongated and aligned towards the rolling direction.Meanwhile, only one strong low-angle misorientation peak related to the prismatic slip is presented in the 50%-rolled specimen, with all other peaks disappeared. Analyses on local misorientations reveal that hardly any residual strains exist in the β-air-cooled specimen, which should be related to their sufficient relaxation during slow cooling. Residual strains introduced by 10% rolling are heterogeneously distributed near grain/twin boundaries while heavier deformation(50% rolling) produces much larger residual strains pervasively existing throughout the specimen microstructure.展开更多
