The solvents used were benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, propyl acetate, butyl acetate, methanol, ethanol isopropyl alcohol, butyl alcohol, 1,2-dichloroethane, and chloroform. It was observed that the infinite diluted activity coefficient of alcohols are well above those of the other solvents investigated.展开更多

Effects of compositions of feed and emulsion liquid phase, flow rates on both sides of membrane, and hollow fiber module parameters were investigated. The stability of the emulsion liquid phase without surfactant and the effect of buffer in the feed phase on the extraction rate were also evaluated. It is found that the stability of the emulsion phase without surfactant is poor. Higher flow velocity gives shorter residence time for the emulsion liquid phase on the tube side, reducing the effect of particle coalescence on the separation process. The extraction rate increases with the increase of feed phase pH, carrier concentration, hydrogen ion concentration in the stripping phase, and ef- fective hollow fiber area. The phase ratio in the emulsion liquid phase has a negative effect on extraction rate. The flow rates on both sides have little influence on the extraction performance of the HFSELM, while buffer addition in the feed solution improves the extraction efficiency.展开更多

The protonating behavior of poly(pyridine-2,5-diyl) with two kinds of surfactants is different in some levels. The novelty of this study is application of nano-baskets of calixcrown in the selective and efficient separation of alkali metals as both the carrier and the surfactant. For this aim, four derivatives of diacid calix[4]-1,3-crowns-4,5 were synthesized, and their inclusion-extraction parameters were optimized including the calixcrown scaffold (4.4%, by mass) as the carrier/demulsifier, the commercial kero sene as diluent in membrane, sulphonic acid (0.2 mol.L-1) and ammonium carbonate (0.4 mol.L-1) as the strip and the feed phases, the phase and the treat ratios of 0.8 and 0.3, mixing speed (300 r.min-1), and initial solute concentration (100 mg.L-1). The selectivity of membrane over more than ten interfering cations was examined and the re sults reveled that under the optimized operating condition, the degree of inclusion-extraction of alkali metals was as high as 98%-99%.展开更多

The aim of the present study is to investigate the effects of applying surfactant to microbial conversion system on the dispersion, solubilization and in turn bioconversion of steroid substrate. The model system is hydroxylation of substrate 19α- 17α-epoxy- 4-pregnene- 3.2It-dine by microbial enzymes from Rhizopus nigricanl. The results show that the presence of substrate leads to an increase in critical micelle concentration ( CMC) of surfactant PSE compared with the normal CMC of PSE in aqueous solution. The grinding time during substrate suspension preparation affects the substrate aqueous solubility differently with the varied surfactant concentrations while barely making any difference in substrate solubility in the absence of surfactant. The properly prolonged grinding time can make up for the loss in substrate solubility arising from the reduction in surfactant concentration. The surfactant complexes composed of surfactants PSE and MGE at appropriate ratios are screened out with orthodoxy experiment method. the interaction between PSE and MGE exerts the most prominent effects on substrate bioconversion, and the surfactant complexes show more beneficial effects on steroid bioconversion than the surfactant PSE used alone.展开更多

The present paper is aimed to study the solubilization of organic compounds such as chlorobenzene (CB), pyrene and phenol by anionic, cationic and mixed anionic-nonionic surfactants such as sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTMAB) and Tween-80 (TW80) and the mixed SDS-TW80 with a batch equilibrium method. This study enables us to supply deeper investigation for MEUF. The results showed that solubilization capacity was not obvious below the critical micellar concentration (CMC). The apparent solubilities of organic compounds were linearly related to surfactant concentrations over their CMCs. Solubilization capacity by single surfactants follow the order of TW80 〉 CTMAB 〉 SDS. The results also proved that the solubilization of the organic contaminants by the mixed surfactants can significantly be enhanced compared with the single anionic surfactant SDS. Whereas the CMC can be decreased, the solubility can be increased as long as the mass ratio of nonionic surfactant increases. The solubility enhancement efficiency of the different organic compounds follow the order of phenol 〉 CB 〉 pyrene. In addition, the solubilization ratio appears to be positively relative to the intrinsic water solubility of the organic contaminants and negatively correlates to octanol-water coefficients (Kow) of organic compounds and the hydrophile-lypophile balance values (HLB) of the surfactants.展开更多
