A specific revised HFCVD apparatus and a novel process combining HFCVD and polishing technique were presented to deposit the micro-and nano-crystalline multilayered ultra-smooth diamond(USCD) film on the interior-ho...A specific revised HFCVD apparatus and a novel process combining HFCVD and polishing technique were presented to deposit the micro-and nano-crystalline multilayered ultra-smooth diamond(USCD) film on the interior-hole surface of WC-Co drawing dies with aperture ranging from d1.0 mm to 60 mm.Characterization results indicate that the surface roughness values(Ra) in the entry zone,drawing zone and bearing zone of as-fabricated USCD coated drawing die were measured as low as 25.7,23.3 and 25.5 nm,respectively.Furthermore,the friction properties of USCD films were examined in both dry sliding and water-lubricating conditions,and the results show that the USCD film presents much superior friction properties.Its friction coefficients against ball-bearing steel,copper and silicon nitride balls(d4 mm),is always lower than that of microcrystalline diamond(MCD) or WC-Co sample,regardless of the lubricating condition.Meanwhile,it still presents competitive wear resistance with the MCD films.Finally,the working lifetime and performance of as-fabricated USCD coated drawing dies were examined under producing low-carbon steel pipes in dry-sliding and water-lubricating conditions.Under the water-lubricating drawing condition,its production significantly increases by about 20 times compared with the conventional WC-Co drawing dies.展开更多
Sepiolite@LDH(Sep@LDH)composites were designed and prepared based on the assembly of layered double hydroxides(LDH)on acidified sepiolites(Sep)for the simultaneous photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange(MO)and me...Sepiolite@LDH(Sep@LDH)composites were designed and prepared based on the assembly of layered double hydroxides(LDH)on acidified sepiolites(Sep)for the simultaneous photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange(MO)and methylene blue(MB).The structure,morphology,texture,optical properties,and photocatalytic performance of the prepared Sep@LDH were studied in detail.Among the Sep@LDH composites,Sep4@LDH(4.0 g Sep)exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity under visible‐light irradiation,which could be attributed to its large surface area,high crystallinity,and plentiful active sites on its surface.The photodegradation of the dyes followed a pseudo first‐order kinetic model(Langmuir‐Hinshelwood model),indicating that the copious and homogeneous active sites on the surface of the composites contributed to the high photocatalytic activity.The photodegradation mechanism was studied by examining the active species(^-OH,h+,and·O2^-anions)using appropriate scavengers.It was found that·OH radicals played a critical role in the photocatalytic process of MO and MB,where the generation of·OH radicals occurred on the electron/hole(e^-/h+)pairs on the surface of the Sep@LDH composites.展开更多
To study the influence of rainfall on pavement skid-resistance performance and driving safety,the water film thickness(WFT)concept considering the longitudinal and transverse slopes of the pavement was utilized based ...To study the influence of rainfall on pavement skid-resistance performance and driving safety,the water film thickness(WFT)concept considering the longitudinal and transverse slopes of the pavement was utilized based on the total discharge formulation and turbulence theory of slope flow.Using experimental data measured using the British pendulum test under varying WFT levels,a model for calculating the skid resistance,namely the British pendulum number(BPN),was formulated and used to quantitatively evaluate the effects of rainfall intensity,transverse,and longitudinal slopes on the computed BPN.The study results reveal that skid resistance is linearly proportional to the pavement transverse slope and inversely proportional to the rainfall intensity and the pavement longitudinal slope.In particular,rainfall intensity,along with pavement texture depth,exhibited a significant impact on the tire-pavement friction and skid-resistance performance.The results further indicate that driving safety under wet weather is predominantly governed by skid resistance and visibility.The BPN and sideway force coefficient(SFC60)values for new asphalt pavements under different rainfall intensities are provided along with some modification to the stopping sight distance(SSD)criteria.Safe driving speed limits are also determined using a safe-driving model to develop the appropriate speed limit strategies.The overall study results provide some insights,methodology approach,and reference data for the evaluation of pavement skid-resistance performance and driving safety conditions under different pavement slopes and rainfall intensities.展开更多
