The Testing Intelligence System Based on Factor Models and Self-Organizing Feature Maps

Presented is a new testing system based on using the factor models and self-organizing feature maps as well as the method of filtering undesirable environment influence. Testing process is described by the factor mode... Presented is a new testing system based on using the factor models and self-organizing feature maps as well as the method of filtering undesirable environment influence. Testing process is described by the factor model with simplex structure, which represents the influences of genetics and environmental factors on the observed parameters - the answers to the questions of the test subjects in one case and for the time, which is spent on responding to each test question to another. The Monte Carlo method is applied to get sufficient samples for training self-organizing feature maps, which are used to estimate model goodness-of-fit measures and, consequently, ability level. A prototype of the system is implemented using the Raven's Progressive Matrices (Advanced Progressive Matrices) - an intelligence test of abstract reasoning. Elimination of environment influence results is performed by comparing the observed and predicted answers to the test tasks using the Kalman filter, which is adapted to solve the problem. The testing procedure is optimized by reducing the number of tasks using the distribution of measures to belong to different ability levels after performing each test task provided the required level of conclusion reliability is obtained. 展开更多

Distribution systems operators are often confronted with declined power quality, which can cause substantial economical losses. The problem analyzed in paper concerns thyristor controlled direct current motor used for ski-lift in ski resort as a source of disturbances with negative impact on sensitive electric equipment, which is then unable to operate correctly. To solve mentioned problems, series of measurements of voltage quality parameters were carried out according to the respective valid standards. Crucial power quality parameters necessary for parallel power active filter design were then analyzed. Power active filter compensates power factor and filters characteristic current harmonics. After power active filter was put into operation, power quality problems were eliminated. Payback period is estimated up to four years. 展开更多

Many interacting biomolecular components in cells form different positive or negative feedback loops. When biological signals transduce through cascades consisting of various loops they will be affected or even distorted. Especially, how to process various signals buried in various intrinsic and extrinsic noises is an important issue. This paper analyzes how the response time influences noise filtering ability and how to enhance the ability by coupling different feedback loops. A parameter to measure the response time of the signal transduction, i.e., τ0.9, and its relationship between the response time and noise filtering will be discussed. The authors show clearly that the longer the response time is, the better the ability to filter noises will be. Therefore, to enhance the ability to filter noises, the authors can prolong the response time by coupling different positive or negative feedback loops. The results provide a possible approach to enhance the ability to filter noises in larger biomolecular networks. 展开更多

Parametric study was carried out considering the filtering perfo... Flow characteristics inside a cyclone filter were investigated by the use of computational fluid dynamics(CFD). For computations, SST model was adopted. Parametric study was carried out considering the filtering performance. Revolution speeds were changed from 100 to 550 with 50 increments. A skirt is the driving source for cyclone operation. The influence of several design factors, such as the skirt length, the skirt gap and the return length to filtering performance was investigated under the particle diameter 100μm of debris material(Al, s.g.=2.7). The filtering performance was also investigated with the skirt length 28 mm changing the debris diameters from 1μm to 50μm. The flow rate of the working fluid was maintained at 0.55kg/s. It has been verified that the most influential factors to the filtering efficiencies was the skirt gap between the cyclone generator and the cyclone vessel. 展开更多
