Combining the unified colored noise approximation (UCNA) and the functional analysis, the stationary probability distribution (SPD) and the variance of the laser intensity is derived. It is found that the colored nature of multiplicative noise and the coupling strength between two noise terms can affect both the structure and the height of the SPD, while the colored nature of the coupling between two noise terms can only affect the height of the SPD. The multiplicative noise can enhance the intensity fluctuations while the additive noise can reduce the fluctuations in a laser system. Numerical simulations are presented and consistent to the analytical results.展开更多

It is shown that the intensities of N lasers are chaotically synchronized when the coupling between lasers is relatively strong. The chaotic synchronization of intensities depends on the location of the lasers in the array. The chaotic synchronization appears between two outmost lasers, the second two outmost lasers, etc. There is no synchronization between nearest neighbors of the lasers. If the number of N is odd, the middle laser is never synchronized between any lasers. The chaotic synchronization of phases between nearest lasers in the array is examined by using the analytic signal and the Gaussian filter methods based on the peak of the power spectrum of the intensity. It can be seen that the message of chaotic intensity synchronization is conveyed through the phase synchronization.展开更多

A microactuator of 750μm length was machined by an excimer laser micmmachining system using single layer material. It had an asymmetric structure consisting of two thin expansion arms with different widths. A laser diode (660nm) was employed as the external power source to activate the microactuator. We introduced a charge coupled device (CCD)-combined optical microscope and a computer system to observe and capture the microactuator' s deflection and vibration. Experiments have been carried out to check the feasibility of deflection, and the data of deflection have been measured under different laser power as well as under different pulse frequency. The results show that the actuator can practically generate an obvious lateral deflection or vibration, the maximum could be larger than 20μm. Moreover, the deflection status of the microactuator could be controlled wirelessly or remotely by changing the laser power and its pulse frequency.展开更多

The laser system is composed of two independent lasers. When each of the two branch lasers operates independently, the output power is 10. 41mW and 8.69 mW respectively. By adjusting a polarization controller (PC), the two lasers achieve coherent coupling, and the output power is 24.4 mW, which is more than two times that the single laser yields. Furthermore, we bring forward and discuss the factor estimating the effect of coherent combination—coherent coupling factor. The value of growth factor to evaluate the effect of coherent combining is 1.27. The coherent fiber laser has the advantages of simple structure, high efficiency and single frequency, which conduce to coherent coupling easily.展开更多

We carry out theoretical and numerical analysis of synchronization, anti-synchronization, in-phase locking in the two identical lasers but detuning, in detain. It is proved that the coupling level determines stability of the lasers by analyzing the eigenvalue equation. Critical case of locking is discussed via the phase difference equation. Quasi-period and stable states in the two lasers are investigated via varying the current, detuning and coupling level.展开更多

Based on optical design software Zemax’s pure non-sequential components,a coupling system of semiconductor laser and single-mode fiber is designed. By analyzing the beam characteristics of the semiconductor laser and the coupled mode theory of semiconductor laser and single-mode fiber, the combined lens consists of a ball lens and a collimating lens for the purpose of improving the coupling efficiency and adjusting tolerance. The simulation results show that the coupling efficiency can reach about 78% by using one million ray traces on non-sequential components, while the experimental test result is 69.11%,accordingly,the reasons for the difference between the experiment and the simulation results are analyzed.展开更多

The microtoroid resonator supports both single mode and multimode Raman lasing with low power thresholds. Observations of Fano and EIT-like phenomena in a packaged microresonator will enable high resolution sensors and can be used in networks where slow-light effect is needed. These results will open up new possibilities for portable, robust, and stable WGM microlasers and resonator-based sensors for applications in various environments.展开更多
