A patient with elevated levels of serum IgA developed purpuric lesions histologically resembling Henoch- Sch nlein purpura brought on by consuming alcohol. Alcohol challenge with 5 units of alcohol reproduced the lesions, with a rapid rise of circulating CD4+ and CD8+ T cells followed by a fall of serum IgA and C3 concentration. The skin lesions and serum abnormalities resolved spontaneously within 6 weeks of the alcohol challenge. 展开更多

We firstly detected the Earth's free toroidal oscillations excited by three large earthquakes in Japan,2011,Chile,2010 and Indonesia,2005 from the observed data of the JCZ-1 seismometer at Wuhan Seismic Station. The eigenperiods of basic modes (0T2 - 0T67 ) and first modes (1T2 ~ 1T50 ) were detected,and their error ratios were less than 0. 5% by comparing the observed eigenvalues with the theoretical eigenvalues in PREM. We supplemented some modes- 0T11,0T15 , 0T19 , 1T4 , 1T5 and 1T14 ,which were not mentioned in PREM,and also observed the spectral line multi-peak phenomenon from 0T2, 0T6 , 0T7 and 0T8 . These results show that the JCZ-1 seismometer is able to precisely observe the Earth's long period toroidal free oscillations. 展开更多

The process of double fertilization and the characters of embryo and endosperm development in an autotetraploid polyembryonic mutant rice IR36-Shuang were studied with a laser scanning confocal microscopy. Some abnormalities including degenerated ovary, abortive embryo sac, single fertilization, double-ovule and double-embryo and so on. were found dudng double fertilization and embryo development in IR36-Shuang. The rate of the abnormalities was 46.67% in IR36-Shuang, significantly higher than that in the control, an autotetraploid rice line IR36-4X (33.00%). Cytological and embryonic evidences were provided for seed setting decline and the initiation of additional embryo in IR36-Shuang. 展开更多

Epilepsy is a chronic nervous disease with increasing incidence worldwide,while the accurate localization of epileptic focus and the corresponding treatment are still challenging due to the lack of effective tools to monitor and modulate the related brain neurological activities.In this work,stretchable micro electrocorticogram(mECoG)electrodes are developed and used to investigate penicillininduced epilepsy in rats.The electrodes possess excellent stretchability,conformality,anti-interference ability and sufficient resolution to successfully monitor electroencephalogram(EEG)signals,which is superior to traditional rigid polyimide-based electrodes.Characteristic epileptic spike waves are detected and analyzed to study the epileptic focus and electrical stimulus effects during epileptic seizures.It is found that the spike waves occur first in the visual cortex which is likely to be the epileptic focus.Epileptic spike wave frequency quickly increases to 1.07 Hz where it reaches a plateau and remains stable.There is no dominant brain hemisphere that would show early warning of epileptic seizures.Electrical stimuli for various times are applied after administering penicillin.It is found that 15 min of electrical stimulus has the best restraining effect on epileptic seizures.The mECoG electrodes developed in this study show potentials for applications in stretchable biomedical devices. 展开更多

Life cycle assessment of alkali-activated materials:a systematic literature review

The physical-mechanical,chemical,and durability characteristics of alkali-activated materials(AAMs)have been widely investigated.However,a critical gap in the literature is the lack of a comprehensive overview of recently published literature regarding the life cycle assessment(LCA)of these binders.This study aims to fill that gap by conducting a systematic literature review of globally published literature on the topic.This paper consolidates knowledge by searching different databases,focusing on LCA studies that used AAMs as pastes,mortars,concretes,bricks,and rammed earth/soil blocks.The selected articles were reviewed and categorized based on precursors,alkaline activators,functional units,system boundaries,life cycle inventory databases,allocation,impact methodologies,and software used.Additionally,this paper also critically analyzes the key challenges of LCA for AAMs.The major challenges were identified as selecting a functional unit,subjectivity in boundary systems,and data interpretation.This work concludes that AAMs show substantial advantages in global warming potential compared to ordinary Portland cement-based materials;however,the average of other categories such as marine ecotoxicity and ozone layer depletion has been reported to be higher than for the reference samples. 展开更多
