METHODS: Forty patients with rectal cancer, who underwent laparoscopic TME with anal sphincter preservation from June 2005 to June 2007, were randomly divided into ultrasonic scalpel group and monopolar ES group, prospectively. White blood cells (WBC) were measured before and after operation, operative time, blood loss, pelvic volume of drainage, time of anal exhaust, visual analogue scales (VAS) and surgery-related complications were recorded. RESULTS: All the operations were successful; no one was converted to open procedure. No significant differences were observed in terms of preoperative and postoperative d I and d 3 WBC counts (P = 0.493, P = 0.375, P = 0.559), operation time (P = 0.235), blood loss (P = 0.296), anal exhaust time (P = 0.431), pelvic drainage volume and VAS in postoperative d 1 (P = 0.431, P = 0.426) and d 3 (P = 0.844, P = 0.617) between ES group and US group. The occurrence of surgery-related complications such as anastomotic leakage and wound infection was the same in the two groups.CONCLUSION: ES is a safe and feasible tool as same as US used in laparoscopic TME with anal sphincter preservation for rectal cancer on the basis of the skillful laparoscopic technique and the complete understanding of laparoscopic pelvic anatomy. Application of ES can not only reduce the operation costs but also benefit the popularization of laparoscopic operation for rectal cancer patients.展开更多

Methods: Forty patients received intravenous anesthesia were randomly and evenly divided into treatment group and control group. At the termination of anesthesia, Shuigou (GV 26) was needled for patients in treatment group, in control group patients aroused spontaneously. Recovery degrees of every patient were assessed by using modified Robertzon Scoring Scale. Results: Results showed that from the 6^th min on, the scores of treatment group were significantly bigger than those of control group (6 min: 5.3±0.42 vs 3.2±0.33, P〈0.05; 15 min: 13.7±0.32 vs 8.23±0.77, P〈0.01), suggesting that the recovery of the patient's consciousness of treatment group was markedly quicker than that of control group, Conclusion:Puncturing Shuigou (GV 26) can hasten the patient's arousal from postoperative anesthesia and thus may be used as an effective remedy for resisting the aftereffects of intravenous anesthetics.展开更多

The present study was undertaken to search for a marker for better efficacy of acupuncture therapy. The study was made in 224 patients including osteoarthritis 141 (62.94 %), polyarthritis 23 (10.26 %), Bursitis & synovitis 15 (6.69 %) and others 45 (20.08 %). ABO blood groups were tested for each patient. It appears that patients belonging to group AB and B responded well to acupuncture therapy in proportionately more number. Good result was achieved in 47.82 % cases in group AB and 46.04 % cases in group B, whereas patients of group A and O showed good result in 27.65 % and 26.15 % cases respectively. Apparently it may be concluded that patients of AB & B blood groups would respond comparatively well to acupuncture therapy.展开更多

Objective: Localization of auricular projection area of the liver and evaluation of its usefulness in the monitoring of viral hepatitis. Design, Patients and Setting: Comparative study of the degree of electrical rectification measured at various spots in the auricular concha region, in 19 inpatients with hepatitis B and 15 clinically healthy volunteers, at the Department of Infectious Diseases, Provincial Teaching Hospital, Tychy, Poland. Intervention: Evaluation of electrical rectification at various spots on the auricular concha using a "rectification ratio" that quantifies the degree of rectification (normal range: 0-60%). Main outcome measure: The location of the skin area where a statistically significant difference existed between the rectification ratios was observed in patients (82±12% at the time of the 'peak period') versus controls (42±8%). Results: A location was identified on the ear auricle where the electrical rectification phenomenon demonstrated a dependence on the presence of hepatitis. Conclusions: Liver projection area exists on the ear auricle which is located within the region of cymba conchae, next to anthelix and the cavity of concha. The existence of viral hepatitis causes this skin area to show a higher degree of electrical rectification once the skin resistance 'breakthrough effect' has been induced. Evaluation of the rectification phenomenon of the liver proiection area provides a method of non-invasive monitoring of viral hepatitis.展开更多

Methods: These patients were classified into liver-qi-stagnation type (n=53), phlegm-coagulation type (n=30) and Thoroughfare-Conception vessel maladjustment type (n=37). Acupoints used were Qimen (期门 LR 14), Wuyi (屋翳 ST 15), Weishu (胃俞 BL 21), etc.. Acupuncture treatment was conducted once daily and 30 treatments constituted one therapeutic course. Results: After 3 courses of treatment, of the 53, 30 and 37 cases of the liver-qi-stagnation, phlegm-coagulation and Thoroughfare-Conception vessel maladjustment types, 43 (81.1%), 24 (80.0%) and 29 (78.4%) were cured, 7 (13.2%), 5 (16.7%)and 5 (13.5%) markedly improved, 3 (5.7%), 1 (3.3%) and 2 (5.4%) improved respectively, and 1 (2.7%) of Thoroughfare-Conception vessel maladjustment type failed. A two-years’ follow-up showed that 3 of the cured 92 cases had a relapse, and after 2 more courses of treatment, they were cured again. Conclusion: Acupuncture therapy is effective for the treatment of hyperplasia of mammary glands.展开更多

Methods: Sixty stroke patients were evenly randomized into yin-meridian group and yang-meridian group. On the basis of the treatment with Chinese and Western medicines, these stroke patients of two groups were treated mainly by acupuncture of acupoints of yin meridians such as Jiquan (极泉HT 1), Tongli (通里HT 5), Neiguan (内关PC 6), etc., and those of yang meridians as Jianyu (NFDA1 LI 15), Quchi (曲池 LI 11), Shousanli (手三里LI 10), etc. respectively. After 30 days’ treatment, the therapeutic effect was evaluated by using American National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), Hamilton Depression (HAMD) Rating Scale, Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Barthel Index and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Scale. Results: Following treatment, the therapeutic effect of yin-meridian group was significantly superior to that of yang-meridian group in improving stroke patients’ neurological deficits [Level B: 50% (15/30) vs 20% (6/30)] and ADL [Level Ⅱ: 40% (12/30) vs 13.3% (4/30)]. No significant difference was found between two groups in the neurological impairment domains. Conclusion: Acu-moxibustion of acupoints of yin meridians is superior to acupoints of yang meridians in improving stroke patients’ neurological impairment and daily living activities.展开更多
