Its depth can be used to calculate the seafloor surface heat flow. The calculated BSR heat flow variations include disturbances from two important factors:(1) seafloor topography, which focuses the heat flow over regions of concave topography and defocuses it over regions of convex topography, and(2) the focused warm fluid flow within the accretionary prism coming from depths deeper than BSR. The focused fluid flow can be detected if the contribution of the topography to the BSR heat flow is removed. However, the analytical equation cannot solve the topographic effect at complex seafloor regions. We prove that 3D finite element method can model the topographic effect on the regional background heat flow with high accuracy, which can then be used to correct the topographic effect and obtain the BSR heat flow under the condition of perfectly flat topography. By comparing the corrected BSR heat flow with the regional background heat flow, focused fluid flow regions can be detected that are originally too small and cannot be detected using present-day equipment. This method was successfully applied to the midslope region of northern Cascadia subducting margin. The results suggest that the Cucumber Ridge and its neighboring area are positive heat flow anomalies, about 10%–20% higher than the background heat flow after 3D topographic correction. Moreover, the seismic imaging associated the positive heat flow anomaly areas with seabed fracture–cavity systems. This suggests flow of warm gas-carrying fluids along these high-permeability pathways, which could result in higher gas hydrate concentrations.展开更多

Positive rotons' (R^+-rotons) creation by a pulsed heater was studied. Signals were recorded for the following quantum processes: quantum evaporation of ^4He-atoms from the free liquid-helium surface by the BEEs of the liquid helium-Ⅱ, and BEEs reflection from the free surface back into the bulk liquid. Typical signals are shown, and ratios of signal amplitudes are evaluated. For long heater pulses from 5 to 10 μs, appearance of the second atomic cloud consisting of evaporated ^4He-atoms was observed in addition to the first atomic cloud. It is thought that the first atomic cloud of the evaporated helium atoms consists of very fast ^4He-atoms with energies ~35 K evaporated by positive rotons with the special energies ~17 K (~2ER~2×8.6 K with ER representing the roton minimum energy) corresponding to the third non-dispersive Zakharenko wave. The second cloud of slower ^4He-atoms was created by surface elementary excitations (SEEs or ripplons) possessing the special energies ~7.15 K representing the binding energy. It was assumed that such SEEs can be created by phonons incoming to the liquid surface with special energies ~6.2 K corresponding to the first non-dispersive Zakharenko wave which can interact at the liquid surface with the same phonons already reflected from the surface for long heater pulses. Also, some pulsed-heater characteristics were studied in order to better understand the features of such heaters in low temperature experiments.展开更多

The problem is investigated in two different geometries and the Re=10, 25, 50, 75, 100 and volume fraction 0, 0.2%, 0.5%, 2% and 5% that related to copper nanoparticles, and porous medium porosity of 0.5 and 0.9. Compared to the first geometry, the convective coefficient in the second geometry increases by 8.3%, 7% and 5.5% at Reynolds numbers of 100, 75 and 50, respectively. Comparison of the outlet temperatures for two heat fluxes of 300 and 1200 W/m^2 indicates a 2.5% temperature growth by a fourfold increase in the heat fluxes. Also, the higher Nusselt number is associated with the second geometry occurring at porosities of 0.9 and 0.5, respectively. In both geometries, the Nusselt number values at the porosity of 0.9 are higher, which is due to the increased nanofluid convection at higher porosities. The velocity of the nanofluid experiences a two-fold increase at the outlet compared to its inlet velocity in the first geometry and for both porosities. Similarly, a three-fold increase was achieved in the second geometry and for both porosities.展开更多

Hence some form of thermal energy storage (TES) is necessary for the most effective utilization of the energy source. This study deals with the experimental evaluation of thermal performance of a packed bed latent heat TES unit integrated with solar flat plate collector. The TES unit contains paraffin as phase change material (PCM) filled in spherical capsules, which are packed in an insulated cylindrical storage tank. The water used as heat transfer fluid (HTF) to transfer heat from the solar collector to the storage tank also acts as sensible heat storage material. Charging experiments were carried out at varying inlet fluid temperatures to examine the effects of porosity and HTF flow rate on the storage unit performance. The performance parameters such as instantaneous heat stored, cumulative heat stored, charging rate and system efficiency are studied. Discharging experiments were carried out by both continuous and batchwise processes to recover the stored heat, and the results are presented.展开更多

In addition the impact ionization will be weakened with the increase in the depth of the P-well which also makes the hot-carrier degradation decrease.Considering the effect of the low-doped P-well and the process windows the length and depth of the P-well are both chosen as 2 μm.展开更多

文摘In the present work, effects of various heat transfer fluids on the discharging performance of a phase change material(PCM) included cylindrical container are numerically assessed during forced convection. The heat transfer fluid air, hydrogen, water and nanofluid with alumina particles are used and the the geometric variation of the PCM embedded region is also considered. The finite element method is used as the solver.Dynamic features of heat exchange with various phases are explored for different heat transfer fluid types,Reynolds number(between 100 and 300) and PCM embedded region geometric variation(h_(x)between 0.01 d_(1) and 0.65 d_(1),hybetween 0.1 h_(1) and 0.4 h_(1)).It is observed that discharging time is significantly influenced by the heat transfer fluid type while full phase transition time for air is obtained as more than 10 times when hydrogen is utilized as heat transfer fluid. The best performance is achieved with nanofluid. When the PCM integrated region size is reduced, discharging time is generally reduced while due to the form of the geometry, vortex formation is established in the PCM region. This results in performance degeneration at the highest radius and height of the inner cylinder.Discharging time increases by about 12% when radius of the inner cylinder is increased from h_(x)=0.35 d_(1) to h_(x)=0.45 d_(1).Dynamic features of PCM temperature and liquid fraction are affected with Reynolds number while discharging time is reduced by about 48% when configurations with the lowest and highest Reynolds number are compared.
文摘Heat transfer mechanisms and their thermal performances need to be comprehensively studied in order to optimize efficiency and minimize energy losses.Different nanoparticles in the base fluid are investigated to upgrade the thermal performance of heat exchangers. In this numerical study,a finned shell and tube heat exchanger has been designed and different volume concentrations of nanofluid were tested to determine the effect of utilizing nanofluid on heat transfer.Fe_(2)O_(3)/water nanofluids with volume concentration of 1%,1.5% and 2% were utilized as heat transfer fluid in the heat exchanger and the obtained results were compared with pure water.ANSYS Fluent software as a CFD method was employed in order to simulate the mentioned problem.Numerical simulation results indicated the successful utilization of nanofluid in the heat exchanger. Also, increasing the ratio of Fe_(2)O_(3) nanoparticles caused more increment in thermal energy without important pressure drop. Moreover,it was revealed that the highest heat transfer rate enhancement of 19.1% can be obtained by using nanofluid Fe_(2)O_(3)/water with volume fraction of 2%.
文摘In this paper, the obtained experimental results concerning creation of bulk elementary excitations (BEEs) in isotopically pure liquid ^4He at low temperatures -60 mK are discussed. Also, some pulsed-heater characteristics were studied in order to better understand the features of such heaters in low temperature experiments.
文摘The present article has been fine-tuned with the investigation of mixed convection Darcy-Forchheimer flow of ZnO-SAE50 oil nanolubricant over an inclined rotating disk under the influence of uniform applied magnetic field applied to various industries. The current study has been enriched with additional consideration of slip flow, thermal radiation, viscous dissipation,Joulian dissipation and internal heating. In view of augmentation of thermal conductivity of nanolubricant,a new micro-nano-convection model namely Patel model has been invoked. The specialty of this model involves the effects of specific surface area and nano-convection due to Brownian motion of nanoparticles, kinetic theory based micro-convection,liquid layering and particle concentration.Suitably transformed governing equations have been solved numerically by using Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg scheme. An analysis of the present study has shown that applied magnetic field, porosity of the medium, velocity slip and inertia coefficient account for the slowing down of radial as well as tangential flow of ZnO-SAE50 oil nanolubricant, thereby leading to an improvement in velocity and thermal boundary layers.
文摘In this study, the laminar heat transfer and nanofluid flow between two porous horizontal concentric cylinders was investigated. Similarly, a three-fold increase was achieved in the second geometry and for both porosities.

文摘In thermal systems such as solar thermal and waste heat recovery systems, the available energy supply does not usually coincide in time with the process demand. Discharging experiments were carried out by both continuous and batchwise processes to recover the stored heat, and the results are presented.
文摘In this work, the laminar convective heat transfer performance and the pressure drop of water-based nanofluids containing Al2O3, TiO2 and SiO2 nanoparticles flowing through a straight circular tube were experimentally investigated. The experimental results showed that addition of small amounts of nano-sized Al2O3 and TiO2 particles to de-ionized water increased heat transfer coefficients considerably, while the SiO2 nanofluids showed the opposite behavior attracting the authors' interests. An average of 16% and 8.2% increase in heat transfer coefficient were observed with the average of 28% and 15% penalty in pressure drop for Al2O3 and TiO2 nanofluids.

文摘A novel lateral insulated gate bipolar transistor on a silicon-on-insulator substrate SOI-LIGBT with a special low-doped P-well structure is proposed. The P-well structure is added to attach the P-body under the channel so as to reduce the linear anode current degradation without additional process. The influence of the length and depth of the P-well on the hot-carrier HC reliability of the SOI-LIGBT is studied. With the increase in the length of the P-well the perpendicular electric field peak and the impact ionization peak diminish resulting in the reduction of the hot-carrier degradation. In addition the impact ionization will be weakened with the increase in the depth of the P-well which also makes the hot-carrier degradation decrease.Considering the effect of the low-doped P-well and the process windows the length and depth of the P-well are both chosen as 2 μm.
