Based on the newly derived formula, THM coupling fracture modes (including tensile, shear and mixed fracture mode) can be predicted by a new fracture criterion of stress intensity factor ratio, where the maximum axial load was measured by self-designed THM coupling fracture test. SEM analyses of THM coupling fractured surface indicate that the higher the temperature and hydraulic pressure are and the lower the confining pressure is, the more easily the intergranular (tension) fracture occurs. The transgranular (shear) fracture occurs in the opposite case while the mixed-mode fracture occurs in the middle case. The tested THM coupling fracture mechanisms are in good agreement with the predicted THM coupling fracture modes, which can verify correction of the newly-derived THM coupling stress intensity factor formula.展开更多

Considering some new boundary conditions, it is assumed that the temperature drop across the crack surface is the result of the thermal conductivity index which controls heat conduction through the crack region. By the Fourier transforms, the thermal-elastic mixed boundary value problems are reduced to a system of singular integral equations which can be approximately solved by applying the Chebyshev polynomials. The numerical computation methods for the temperature, the displacement field and the thermal stress intensity factors (TSIFs) are presented. The normal temperature distributions (NTD) with different parameters along the crack surface are analyzed by numerical examples. The influence of the crack position and the thermal-elastic non- homogeneous parameters on the TSIFs of modes I and 11 at the crack tip is presented. Results show that the variation of the thickness of the graded coating has a significant effect on the temperature jump across the crack surfaces when keeping the thickness of the substrate constant, and the thickness of functionally graded material (FGM) coating has a significant effect on the crack in the substrate. The results can be expected to be used for the purpose of gaining better understanding of the thermal-mechanical behavior of graded coatings.展开更多

Shock resistance was analyzed by the time-domain simulation method. After exhaustive simulations, the effect of air pressure induced by different working conditions on the shock response of a supercharged boiler was reviewed, leading to conclusions about the variability of structural response with different loading parameters. In order to simulate the real impulsive environments of supercharged boilers, the integration of equipment and ship structure was then primarily used to analyze shock response. These distinctly different equipment shock test methods, run under equivalent work conditions, were compared and the causes of discrepancy were analyzed. The main purpose of this paper is to present references for the anti-shock design of marine supercharged boilers.展开更多

Based on approaches such as observation data analysis, meteorological model simulation, and remote sensing, a set of climatic environmental performance assessment methods is developed and established. These methods mainly focus on surface ventilation assessment and urban thermal environment assessment. With the Yanqi Lake ecological development demonstration area located in Huairou district, Beijing as an example, the assessment of the local climatic environment before and after the construction are conducted, and relevant policy suggestions for urban planning and construction are presented. The results show that after development, the ventilation capacity will decrease overall and the ventilation potential index will decrease from 0.53 to 0.44. While this is not a large reduction, and is still at a favorable level, the ventilation potential in some local areas will markedly decrease. Furthermore, the thermal environment will become poorer to some extent; the urban heat island(UHI) area and intensity will increase compared with the current situation;continuous heat islands may occur in local areas; the UHI potential index of the core area will rise from 0.0878 to 0.1217(still a favorable level). Therefore, urban surfaces should be carefully developed and arranged during planning. It is suggested that the negative impacts of large areas of urban construction on the local climatic environment in the Yanqi Lake could be mitigated by 1) strengthening the airflow by introducing fresh, cold, northwesterly air via constructed ventilation corridors, 2) increasing the number of ecological cold sources, particularly for water bodies and green belts to prevent the UHI in the southern region of Yanqi Lake from becoming linked with each other, and 3) considering a pre-program before sub-domain and building planning to obtain optimum building locations. Different construction standards should be developed for different ventilation potential and UHI intensity levels. For strong heat island areas, land areas should be reserved to serve as cold sources.展开更多

With the index determined for individual months of June, July and August and the entire summertime from 1975 to 1999, specific months and years are indicated that are either strong or weak in monsoon intensity. The variation is studied for the patterns and sI抯 relationship is revealed with the onset of summer monsoon and the precipitation in Guangdong province and China. The results show that there are quasi-10 and quasi-3-4 year cycles in the interannual variation of the monsoon over the past 25 years. When it has an early (late) onset, the summer monsoon is usually strong (weak). In the strong (weak) monsoon years, precipitation tends to be more (less) in the first raining season of the year but normal or less (normal) in the second, in the province, but it would be more (less) in northeastern China and most parts of the northern China and south of the lower reaches of the Changjiang River and less (more) in the middle and lower reaches of the river, western part of northern China and western China.展开更多

Firstly, a novel concept, the dissipation of mass transfer ability(DMA) associated with convective mass transfer, was defined via an analogy to the heat-work conversion. Accordingly, the focus on mass transfer enhancement can be shifted to seek the extremum of the DMA of the system. To this end, an optimization principle was proposed. A mathematical model was then developed to formulate the optimization into a variational problem. Subsequently, the intensification of the mixing process for a gas mixture in a micro-tube was provided to demonstrate the proposed principle. In the demonstration example, an optimized velocity field was obtained in which the mixing ability was improved, i.e., the mixing process should be intensified by adjusting the velocity field in related equipment. Therefore, a specific procedure was provided to produce a mixer with geometric irregularities associated with an ideal velocity.展开更多

The stress intensity factor (SIF) arising from domain switching is evaluated by using a Green's function method, and the critical applied electric field intensity factor (CAEFIF) for brittle fracture at room temperature is obtained. Besides, the lowest temperature for single dislocation emission before brittle fracture is also obtained by constructing an energy balance. The multi-scale analysis of facture toughness of the ferroelectric ceramics at high temperature is carried out. Through the analysis, the CAEFIF for crack extension is recalculated. The results show that the competition and interaction effects between dislocation emission and brittle fracture are very obvious. Besides, the higher critical activation temperature, the more columns of obstacles will be overcome. Additionally, the shielding effect arising from thermally activated dislocations is remarkable, thus, the brittle-ductile transition can promote the fracture toughness of high-temperature ferroelectric ceramics.展开更多

The wall temperature of oscillating tube increasesrapidly in the inlet and then decreases slowly, moreover, the rally phenomenon of wall temperature nearthe closed end is observed. With the increase of jet flow frequency, the highest wall temperature increases and thelocation of that moves towards the inlet. The velocity of pressure wave in the oscillating tube almost remainsconstant even its intensity changes. The quantity of heat transfer between the gas and inner wall of the oscillatingtube determines the wall temperature of every location, and the pressure wave disturbance can cause the heattransfer quantity change. Each pressure wave has its own disturbance range. The wall temperature distribution canbe explained by the change of pressure wave intensity and its disturbance time. Besides, the step and rally of walltemperature are discussed, which shows that the conditions of heat transfer can be improved due to intersection orreflection of pressure waves.展开更多
