To ensure green and high-efficiency machining, a new high efficiency cooling technology-cryogenic pneumatic mist jet impinging cooling (CPMJI) technology is presented. For obtaining the best cooling effect, a little quantity of coolant is carried by high speed cryogenic air (-20 C ) and reaches the machining zone in the form of mist jet to enhance heat transfer. Experimental results indicate that under the conditions of 40 m/s in the jet impinging speed and 10 mm in the jet impinging distance, the critical heat flux(CHF) nearly reaches 6× 10^7 W/m^2, more than six times of the CHF of the grinding burn with a value of (8~10)×10^6 W/m^2.展开更多

In selected applications, however, the liquid making up the solution or suspension may not be water. The objective of this work is to examine the differences in flow patterns, thermal behavior and drying rates caused by different liquids having different thermo-physical properties spray into a spray dryer using a computational fluid dynamic model.Numerical experiments were carried out for water (base case), ethyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol-the latter two as model non-aqueous liquids. The chamber geometry was cylinder type with a co-current axial pressure nozzle and also an axial central exit so that the configuration is two dimensional and axi-symmetric. It is shown that the liquid properties can have major influence on the thermal field, droplet trajectories, residence times and overall evaporation capacity when all parameters of the problem are held fixed. Deviations from the single phase turbulent airflow in the same chamber without spray are different for the three liquids examined.展开更多

The fluctuation of the water film convection and the water-air interfacial thermal resistance were reviewed especially. In the distribution of thermal resistance, the rank of the thermal resistance proportion (from max to min) is air flow heat transfer resistance, heat transfer resistance between refrigerant and wall, water film convection resistance and wall heat transfer resistance. When the heat flux is constant, the total resistance lowers nearly along with the increasing of air flow and water spray density. But there are a best air flow value of 2.98 m/s and a best spray water density of 0.064 kg/(m ·s) respectively, if continue to increase them, condensation performance is not significantly improved any more. The test results are available to improve the evaporative condenser performance and the designing lever.展开更多

Two cases with the jet-to-crossflow velocity ratio of 0.05 and 0.5 are computed, with a finite-volume method utilizing κ-ε model. Comparison of the steady-state computations with measured data shows good qualitative agreement. Transient process of injection is simulated to examine the thermal shock on the T-junction component. Temporal temperature of the component is acquired by thermal coupling with the fluid. Via analysis of the flow and thermal characteristics, factors causing the thermal shock are studied. Optimal flow rates are discussed to reduce the thermal shock.展开更多

The HVOF gun in the present analysis is an axially symmetric convergent-divergent nozzle with the design Math number of 2.0. From the present analysis, the distributions of veloeity and temperature of the coating particles flying inside and outside of the HVOF gun are predicted. The velocity and temperature of the coating particles at the exit of the gun calculated by the present method agree well with the previous experimental results. Therefore, the present method of calculation is considered to be useful for predicting the HVOF gas and particle flows.展开更多

The HVOF gun in the present analysis is an axisymmetric convergent-divergent nozzle with the design Mach number of 2.0 followed by a straight passage called barrel. In the present analysis it is assumed that the influence of the particles injected in the gas flow is neglected, and the interaction between the particles is also neglected. The gas flow in the gun is assumed to be quasi-one-dimensional adiabatic flow. The velocity, temperature and density of gas in the jet discharged from the barrel exit are predicted by solving Navier-Stokes equations numerically. The particle equation of motion is numerically integrated using three-step Runge-Kutta method. The drag coefficient of the particle is calculated by linear interpolation of the experimental data obtained in the past. Particle mean temperature is calculated by using Ranz and Marchalls' correlation for spherical particles. From the present analysis, the distributions of velocity and temperature of the coating particles flying inside and outside the HVOF gun are predicted.展开更多

However, serious erosion of nozzles is common in motor firing operations, which could restrict the application of hybrid rocket motors. Usually, the serious erosion is attributed to the high concentration of oxidizing species in hybrid motors, while the details of flowfields in the motors are not paid special attention to. In this paper, first the thermochemical erosion of C/C nozzle is simulated coupled with the flowfields in a 98% H2O2/hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene(HTPB) hybrid rocket motor. The simulation is made on a typical axisymmetric motor, including a pre-combustion chamber, an aft-combustion chamber and nozzle structures. Thermochemica reactions of H2 O, CO2, OH, O and O2 with C are taken into account. Second, the change of flowfields due to fuel regression during motor firing operations is considered. Nozzle erosion in different flowfields is evaluated. Third, the results of nozzle erosion in the coupled simulation are compared with those under uniform and chemical equilibrium flow and motor firing test results. The results of simulation and firing tests indicate that the thermochemical erosion of nozzles in hybrid motors should be calculated coupled with flowfields in the motor. In uniform and chemical equilibrium flowfields, the erosion rate is overestimated. The diffusion flame in hybrid motors protects the nozzle surface from the injected oxidizer and high temperature products in flowfields, leading to a relatively fuel-rich environment above the nozzle. The influence of OH and the geometry of motor should also be considered in the evaluation of nozzle erosion in hybrid motors.展开更多
