It attracts botanists that many primitive plant taxa across various life forms were co-existed in the montane rain forest. In order to know the biogeography of the montane rain forest, distribution patterns of some species of biogeographical importance from the montane forest were enumerated and their biogeographical implications were discussed with geological explanation. It was concluded that the montane rain forest in the southern Yunnan has strong affinity to montane rain forests in Sumatra or Southeast Asia in broad sense. It was tentatively suggested that Sumatra could be once connected to Myanmar and drifted away due to northward movement of continental Asia by bumping of India plate.展开更多

A soil-landscape model for a region, based on 151 samples for parent material and topographic factors, was established using a GISspatial analysis technique and a digital elevation model (DEM) to reveal spatial distributioncharacteristics of soil organic carbon (SOC). Correlations between organic carbon and topographicfactors were analyzed and a regression model was established to predict SOC content. Results forsurface soils (0-20 cm) showed that the average SOC content was 12.8 g kg^(-1), with the SOC contentbetween 6 and 12 g kg^(-1) occupying the largest area and SOC over 24 g kg^(-1) the smallest. Also, soils derived from phyllite were the highest in the SOC content and area, while soils developed onpurple shale the lowest. Although parent material, elevation, and slope exposure were allsignificant topographic variables (P < 0.01), slope exposure had the highest correlation to SOCcontent (r = 0.66). Using a multiple regression model (R^2 = 0.611) and DEM (with a 30 m X 30 mgrid), spatial distribution of SOC could be forecasted.展开更多

Their otoliths show pattern of daily microincrements as otoliths of similar species--Pseudochaenichthys georgianus and fishes both temperate and tropical waters. Changes of the microincrements growth pattern and otolith shape are described in relation to larval, hatching and metamorphosis stages have similar patterns for Ps. georgianus and Charnpsocephalus gunnari, reflecting similar habitats in their early life. Width of larvae-postlarvae daily increments are: (1.0-1.6)×10-3 SSI, (1.8-2.8)×10-3 SG1 and (1.5-2.4)×10-3 ANI. They were search and chosen automatically from density profiles of otolith tissues. Tissues were prepared by new saving time and materials way--one time up to 40 ones per microscopic glass. Age of fish estimated from microincrements was alike to that inferred from the body length distribution, otoliths mass (age (years) = 140.82 OM (g) + 0.8546) and otolith shape changes--large in length and surface on medial plane. Those parameters create age groups of close neighbours. They have different environments. C. aceratus due to its adaptation to cold water, attain rapidly large body according to a growth equation: Lt= 75.1 ×10-3 (1-e-0.26(t-0.51). Among large fishes there were only females.展开更多

The annual cycle of cyclogenesis frequency over the BoB shows an asymmetric bimodal pattern with the maximum genesis number appearing in late October and the second largest in early May. The two peaks correspond to the withdrawal and onset of the BoB summer monsoon, respectively. The semimonthly GP index calculated without TC days over the BoB is consistent with TC genesis frequency, indicating that the index captures the monsoon-induced changes in the environment that are responsible for the seasonal variation of TC genesis frequency. Of the four environmental variables (i.e., low-level vorticity, mid-level relative humidity, potential intensity, and vertical wind shear) that enter into the GP index, the potential intensity makes the largest contribution to the bimodal distribution, followed by vertical wind shear due to small wind speed during the summer monsoon onset and withdrawal. The difference in TC genesis frequency between autumn and late spring is mainly owing to the relative humid-ity difference because a divergence (convergence) of horizontal moisture flux associated with cold dry northerlies (warm wet wester-lies) dominates the BoB in late spring (autumn).展开更多

It was found that, following a weaker-than-normal ASM, the East Asian summer monsoon and western North Pacific subtropical high tend to be stronger, yielding anomalous northward moisture to be transported from the western Pacific to central China. Besides, anomalous upwelling motion emerges over 30–37.5°N, along 110°E. Consequently, significant positive summer precipitation anomalies are located over central China. Further analysis indicated that the boreal winter sea surface temperature(SST) in the Indian Ocean and South China Sea shows positive anomalies in association with a weaker-than-normal ASM. The Indian Ocean warming in boreal winter could persist into the following summer because of its own long memory, emanating a baroclinic Kelvin wave into the Pacific that triggers suppressed convection and an anomalous anticyclone. Besides, the abnormal SST signal in the South China Sea develops eastward with time because of local air-sea interaction, causing summer SST warming in the western Pacific. The SST warming can further affect East Asian atmospheric circulation and precipitation through its impact on convection.展开更多

Four selectivity models (a normal model assuming fixed spread, a normal model assuming that spread is proportional to mesh size, a lognormal model and a gamma model) were fitted to the data by using the share each length's catch total (SELECT) method. A total of 657 specimens of Oreochromis niloticus were caught (12.0-35.5 cm total length, TD. The sizes at first sexual maturity were 21.5 cm TL and 18.9 cm TL, respectively, for male and female Oreochromis niloticus. The lognormal selectivity curve provided the best fit to the data according to model deviance estimates with optimum selectivity of 16.66, 22.26, 27.78 and 33.38 cm TL for the 60, 80, 100 and 120 mm mesh sizes, respectively.展开更多
