In order to find out how the climatic characteristics affect people's adaptability to thermal environments,experimental studies in a climate chamber are conducted on the effects of transition seasons(from spring to summer)and the occupants' native areas on indoor thermal sensations.Results reveal that people's tolerances to cool and warm indoor environments are different in the transition season.When the outdoor temperature is higher,the occupants have a weaker tolerance to a cool indoor environment,but a stronger tolerance to a warm indoor environment.Besides,it is found that the occupants' thermal sensations depend on both the climatic characteristics of the season and their native areas.The people from southern China present a greater tolerance to both warm and cool indoor environments than those from northern China.The reason can be explained according to the occupants' adaptability to the climatic characteristics and the indoor thermal environments of their native areas in different climate zones. 展开更多

In order to reveal the nonlinear dynamics characteristics of unsteady self-heating process of sulfide ores, nine different kinds of sulfide ore samples from a pyrite mine in China were taken as experimental materials and their self-heating characteristics were measured in laboratory. Furthermore, the measured temperature was studied by integrating wavelet transform, nonlinear characteristic parameters extraction and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. The results indicate that only the ore samples 1, 2, 6 and 9 have obvious self-heating phenomenon, and their self-heating initiative temperatures are 220 ℃, 239 ℃, 220 ℃ and 220 ℃, respectively, which means that they are difficult to produce self-heating under normal mining conditions. The correlation dimension of self-heating process is fraction and the maximum Lyapunov exponent is positive, which means that it is feasible to study the self-heating process based on chaotic dynamics theory. The nonlinearities of self-heating process of these four samples (ore samples 1, 2, 6 and 9) are 0.8227, 0.7521, 0.9401 and 0.8827 respectively and the order of the samples according to these results is: sample 6, sample 9, sample 1, sample 2, which is consistent with the measured results of self-heating characteristics. Therefore, the nonlinearity method can be used to evaluate the self-heating tendency of sulfide ores, and it is an effective verification of the reliability of measured results. 展开更多

The apparent sulfur oxidation activities of four pure thermophilic archaea, Acidianus brierleyi (JCM 8954), Metallosphaera sedula (YN 23), Acidianus manzaensis (YN 25) and Sulfolobus metallicus (YN 24) and their mixture in bioleaching chalcopyrite were compared, which were characterized indirectly by the evolution of the cells concentration, pH value and sulfate ions concentration in solution. The results show that the mixed culture contributed significantly to the raising of leaching rate, which suggests that the mixed culture had a higher sulfur oxidation activity than the pure culture. Meanwhile, the results also indicate that the changes of parameters characterizing the sulfur oxidation activity of thermophilic archaea are often influenced by many factors, so it is hard to reflect accurately the specific sulfur oxidation activities among the different sulfur-oxidizing microbes when bioleaching chalcopyrite at different conditions. Accordingly, an efficient method to characterize microbial sulfur oxidation activity appears to be desirable. 展开更多

This study aimed to compare starch properties among rice germplasms with different contents of resistant starch. Rice germplasms with significant differ- ences in resistant starch content were screened by the rice germplasm resource project team in Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences, to analyze the differences in RVA eigenvalues and starch crystal thermodynamic properties using differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The result showed that three rice materials with high contents of resistant starch exhibited low breakdown viscosity and high setback vis- cosity; three rice materials with low contents of resistant starch exhibited high breakdown viscosity and low setback viscosity. Significant differences were observed in RVA eigenvalues and starch crystal thermodynamic properties among rice germplasms with different contents of resistant starch, which provided new indices for breeding functional rice cultivars with high resistant starch content. 展开更多

To shorten the fabrication process of difficult-to-form TiAl sheets, twin-roll strip casting and microstructural control were investigated in Ti-43Al alloy. A crack-free sheet with dimensions of 1000 mm × 110 mm × 2 mm was obtained. The microstructure of stip casting sheets and heat treatments was systematically studied. The macrostructure consisted of columnar crystals extending inward and centrally located equiaxed crystals with severe Al segregation were observed along the thickness direction, due to the symmetrical solidification process and decreasing cooling rates. The strip casting alloy was characterized by fine duplex microstructure with a grain spacing of 20-30 μm and a lamellar spacing of 10-20 nm. Furthermore, multiple microstructures of near gamma, nearly lamellar and fully lamellar were obtained through heat treatment process with significantly improved homogeneity of the microstructure. 展开更多

Extracellular manganese peroxidases (MnPs) produced by native and mutant strains of Trametes versicolor IBL‐04 (EB‐60, EMS‐90) were purified by ammonium sulphate precipitation and dialysis, followed by ion‐exchange and gel‐permeation chromatography. The purified enzymes elucidated a single band in the 43‐kDa region on sodium dodecyl sulphate‐polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The optimum pH and temperature of the purified enzymes were found to be 5.0 and 40 °C, respec‐tively. Mutant strain MnPs exhibited a broader active pH range and higher thermal stability than native MnP. Purified MnPs from selected mutants showed almost identical properties to native MnP in electrophoresis, steady‐state kinetics, and metal ion and endocrine‐disrupting compound (EDC) degradation efficiency. Although the fastest reaction rates occurred with Mn2+, MnPs displayed the highest affinity for ABTS, methoxyhydroquinone, 4‐aminophenol and reactive dyes. MnP activity was significantly enhanced by Mn2+and Cu2+, and inhibited in the presence of Zn2+, Fe2+, ethylene‐diaminetetraacetic acid and cysteine to various extents, with Hg2+ as the most potent inhibitory agent. MnPs from all sources efficiently catalyzed the degradation of the EDCs, nonylphenol and triclosan, removing over 80%after 3 h of treatment, which was further increased up to 90%in the presence of MnP‐mediator system. The properties of T. versicolor MnPs, such as high pH and ther‐mal stability, as well as unique Michaelis‐Menten kinetic parameters and high EDC elimination effi‐ciency, render them promising candidates for industrial exploitation. 展开更多

According to the national standard(2006)on tropical cyclone(TC)intensity,TCs are categorized into six intensity types,namely,tropical depression(TD),tropical storm(TS),severe tropical storm(STS), typhoon(TY),severe typhoon(STY),and super severe typhoon(SSTY).Fifty-eight years(1949–2006)of the datasets from the Yearbook of Typhoons and Yearbook of Tropical Cyclones were used to study the variation characteristics of TCs making landfalls in China's Mainland,Hainan and Taiwan islands.The main results are as follows.First,interannual or interdecadal variations in the number of landfalling TCs at different intensities exist.As far as long-term trends are concerned,the TD and TS frequencies show a significant linearly decreasing trend while those of STY show a significant linearly increasing trend.Second, a significant period of 6–8 years exist in the variations of annual landfalling TD,TS,and STS frequencies while quasi-16-year periods are found in the annual TY frequency.Third,TD and TS are generated mostly over the South China Sea,while TY,STY,and SSTY mostly over the waters southeast of the Bashi Channel and the ocean to the east of the Philippines.Fourth,as far as interdecadal trends are concerned,the frequencies of landfalling TD and TS generated over the South China Sea show significant linearly decreasing trends.However,TY and STY show significant linearly increasing trends. 展开更多

The compositions of the resins were defined by 1H NMR (nuclear magnetic resonanse) spectroscopy and the dependence of the cured materials properties on the composition was established. Increase of a propargyl content resulted in char yield raise and the maximum value had been found for propargylated resin--58%. DSC (differential scanning calorimetry)-analysis of the resins has demonstrated that exothermic enthalpy of the curing process could be adjusted by varying the content of propargyl and allyl groups in the resin. 展开更多

Considering the high viscosity and low thermal conductivity of molten plastics, a falling film pyrolysis reactor was selected to explore the rapid co-pyrolysis process of typical plastic components(PP, PE and PS).The oil and gas yields and the compositions of pyrolysis products of the three components under different ratios at pyrolysis temperatures were analyzed to explore the co-pyrolysis characteristics of PP, PE, and PS. This study investigated the heat transfer and flow characteristics of one kind of swirlgenerator in a circular heat exchanger tube through a numericalsimulation. The swirlflow induced by this type of swirlgenerator can obtain a high heat transfer rate with minimalpressure drop penalty. The simulations were carried out to understand the physicalbehavior of this kind of mesoscale heat enhancement component. By visualizing the heat transfer and flow characteristics, it is found that the swirlflow is induced by swirlgenerator in the circular tube couples with the impinging jet effect. After passing through the swirlgenerator, the localfriction factor of liquid can quickly return to lower levelmore quickly, while the localNusselt number maintains higher values for a distance; thus, the evaluation criterion of localperformance is improved. Single-factor optimization is used for three geometric parameters, i.e., the angle of swirlgenerator(25o, 45o, and 60o), the length of swirlgenerator(0.005, 0.01, and 0.02 m), and the center rod radius(1, 2, and 3 mm). The optimum parameters of the swirlgenerator for laminar flow of air in a circular tube are obtained, which should be 60o, 0.005 m, and 3 mm, respectively. 展开更多

The incidence of obesity has dramatically increased in recent years.Consequently,obesity and associated disorders such as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease constitute a serious problem.Therefore,the contribution of adipose tissue to metabolic homeostasis has become a focus of interest.In this review,we discuss the latest discoveries that support the role of lipids in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.We describe the common mechanisms(cJun aminoterminal kinases,endoplasmic reticulum stress,unfolded protein response,ceramide,lowgrade chronic inflammation)by which lipids and their derivatives impair insulin responsiveness and contribute to inflammatory liver and promote plaque instability in the arterial wall.Presenting the molecular mechanism of lipid activation of proinflammatory pathways,we attempt to find a link between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease,metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases.Describing the common mechanisms by which lipid derivatives,through modulation of macrophage function,promote plaque instability in the arterial wall,impair insulin responsiveness and contribute to inflammatory liver and discussing the molecular mechanism of lipid activation of proinflammatory pathways,the key roles played by the proliferatoractivated receptor and liver X receptorα,nuclear receptorslipid sensors that link lipid metabolism and inflammation,should be emphasized.Further studies are warranted of antiinflammatory drugs such as aspirin,antiinterleukin6 receptors,immunemodulators(calcineurin inhibitors),substances enhancing the expression of heat shock proteins(which protect cells from endoplasmic reticulum stressinduced apoptosis),and anticJun aminoterminal kinases in welldesigned trials to try to minimize the high impact of these illnesses,and the different expressions of the diseases,on the whole population. 展开更多
