The data of the amount of Cd sorption (Aq) and concentration of Cd in equilibrium solution(Ce), and the data of Aq and the heat effect (AH) caused by Cd^2+ sorption on goethite all fitted Langmuirisotherm. The amount of heat released from Cd sorption on goethite increased with the amount of Ce or Aq.The reaction process of Cd sorption on goethite may be divided into five stages and three plateaus, dependingon the variation of enthalpy change (.Hm) of Cd sorption with Aq, which implied three mechanisms ofinteraCtion between Cd and goethite. The experimental results showed that the microcalorimetry may beuseful for determination of microcalorie variation in soil.展开更多

Under thermal effect, a dynamical behavior similar to that of a beam fixed on two sides occurs in the central locked area of the welded rail, as there is axial compression but no possibility of sliding. Continuous welded rails do not contract or expand, and are supported by the dynamical system made up of ballasts and rail clips. The rail-support system mentioned above has the features of non-uniform material distribution and uncertainty of construction quality. Due to these facts, the dynamics method based on the linear elastic hypothesis cannot correctly evaluate the rail's buckling conditions. This study is aimed at applying Finite Difference Method (FDM) and Monte Carlo Random Normal Variables Method to the analysis of welded rail's buckling behavior during the train's acceleration and deceleration, under thermal effect and uncertain factors of ballast and rail clips. The analysis result showed that buckling occurs under the combined effect of thermal effect and the train's deceleration force co-effect and the variance ratio of ballast and rail clips is over 0.85, or under the combined effect of thermal effect and the train's acceleration force when the ariance ratio is over 0.88.展开更多

Much of the earlier research on the UHI has used two-dimensional (2-D) information, such as land uses and the distribution of vegetation. In the case of homogeneous land uses, it is possible to predict surface temperatures with reasonable accuracy with 2-D information. However, three-dimensional (3-D) information is necessary to analyze more complex sites, including dense building clusters. In this research, 3-D building geometry information is combined with 2-D urban surface information to examine the relationship between urban characteristics and temperature. The research includes the following stages: (1) estimating urban temperature; (2) developing a 3-D city model; (3) generating geometric parameters; and (4) conducting statistical analyses using both linear and non-linear regression models. The implications of the results are discussed, providing guidelines for policies aiming to reduce the UHI.展开更多

The meridional volume transport of geostrophic currents differed significantly from the classical Sverdrup balance, with differences of 10×106 -20×106 m3 /s in the interior tropical Northwest Pacific Ocean. Analyses showed that errors of wind stress estimation could not explain all of the differences. The largest differences were found in the areas immediately north and south of the bifurcation latitude of the North Equatorial Current west of the dateline, and in the recirculation area of the Kuroshio and its extension, where nonlinear eddy activities were robust. Comparison of the geostrophic meridional transport and the wind-driven Sverdrup meridional transport in a high-resolution OFES simulation showed that nonlinear effects of the ocean circulation were the most likely reason for the differences. It is therefore suggested that the linear, steady wind-driven dynamics of the Sverdrup theory cannot completely explain the meridional transport of the interior circulation of the tropical Northwest Pacific Ocean.展开更多

An analytical modeling method for the motion track of belt spindle under the combined effects of bending moment-torque-thermal deformation is proposed in this paper. Three running phases of belt spindle have been analyzed and modeled: the start-up phase with leaping change due to the change in force and bending moment, the accelerating phase with axis deflection, and the constant speed phase with axis regression because of the combined effects of bending moment-torque-thermal deformation. The simulation and test were completed on the belt spindle of SKVM850 machine tool, which illustrates the variation law of the radial error of belt spindle during the whole running phases.展开更多

The results are compared with those calculated from Maxwell relations by using the polarization data obtained from the polarization–electric field hysteresis loops. The direct method shows a larger ECE temperature change, which is accounted for the situation approaches an ideal condition. For the indirect method using Maxwell relations, only the polarization projection along the electric field was taken into account, which will be less than the randomly distributed real polarizations that contribute to the ECE. The MLCCs exhibit a broad peak of ECE around 80 C, which will be favorite for the practical ECE cooling devices.展开更多

EepT describes the relation between energy E and momentum p of photonic eigenmodes, and essentially determines the optical properties of materials. As EepT is defined in momentum space(k-space), the experimental method to detect the energy distribution, that is the spectrum, in a momentum-resolved manner is highly required. In this review, the momentum-space imaging spectroscopy(MSIS) system is presented, which can directly study the spectral information in momentum space. Using the MSIS system, the photonic dispersion can be captured in one shot with high energy and momentum resolution. From the experimental momentumresolved spectrum data, other key features of photonic eigenmodes, such as quality factors and polarization states, can also be extracted through the post-processing algorithm based on the coupled mode theory. In addition, the interference configurations of the MSIS system enable the measurement of coherence properties and phase information of nanophotonic materials, which is important for the study of light-matter interaction and beam shaping with nanostructures. The MSIS system can give the comprehensive information of nanophotonic materials, and is greatly useful for the study of novel photonic phenomena and the development of nanophotonic technologies.展开更多
