Probability plots of experimental data show that the mechanical parameters of heterogeneous coal follow a Weibull distribution. Based on elasto-plastic mechanics and gas dynamics, the model of coupled gas flow' and deformation process of heterogeneous coal was presented and the effects of heterogeneity of coal on gas flow and failure of coal wcrc investigated. Major findings include: The effect of the heterogeneity of coal on gas flow and mechanical thilure of coal can be considered by the model in this paper. Failure of coal has a great effect on gas flow.展开更多

Gaseous products of coal, such as carbon monoxide, ethylene, propane and hydrogen, are commonly used as indicators to reflect its status quo of sponcom in coal mines. Nevertheless, since the corresponding relationship between the temperature and the indicators is non-linear and can't be depicted with simple mathematical formula, it is very difficult to diagnose and forecast coal sponcom by monitoring indicator gases' distribution. A forward feeding 3-layer artificial neural network (ANN) model is employed to express the corresponding relation between temperature and index gases of coal sponcom more accurately. A large amount of data from programmed temperature oxidation experiments were employed to train the network to gain the connection strength between nerve cells and to accomplish the model. It proved in real coal productions that the ANN model can forecast coal sponcom accurately.展开更多

The distribution, affinity and removability of the trace elements were studied by float-sink experiments and petrological methods. A high mineral content, dominated by clay minerals, was found in the No.14 coal from the Huolinhe mine. The concentrations of As, Sb and Hg are relatively high compared to the average values for Chinese coals. As, Cr, Hg, Li, Mn, Pb are mainly associated with the minerals while Cd, Co, Ni, Sb, and Se are evenly distributed between the minerals and the organic matter. Be and Ba are mainly distributed in the minerals with a minor proportion in the organic matter. Most elements have a low organic affinity, although Sb, Se, Co, Cd, Ni are closely integrated with the organic matter. High theoretical removabilities are indicated for most trace elements. So it may be possible to lower the concentrations of trace elements during coal preparation.展开更多

As well, the relation between pore pressure and soil stress was evaluated. The model tests show the vibrations of pore pressure and soil stress as a result of mining activities. The simulation model tells of the response characteristics of pore pressure after mining and its distribution in the sand aquifer. The comparative analysis reveals that pore pressure and soil stress vibration are activated by unexpected events occurring in mines, such as collapsing roofs. An increased pore pressure zone always lies above the wall in front or behind the working face of a mine. Both pore pressure and vertical stress result in increasing and decreasing processes during movements of the working face of a mine. The vibration of pore pressure always precedes soil stress in the same area and ends with a sharp decline. Changes in pore pressure of sand aquifer are limited to the area of stress changes. Obvious changes are largely located in a very small frame over the mining face.展开更多
