The aim of this study is to determine the energy and cost saving opportunities for truck haulage operations associated with the payload variance in surface mines. The results indicate that there is a non-linear relationship between the payload variance and the fuel consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and associated costs. A correlation model, which is independent of haul road conditions, has been developed between the payload variance and the cost saving using the data from an Australian surface coal mine. The results of analysis for this particular mine show that a significant saving of fuel and greenhouse gas emissions costs is possible if the standard deviation of payload is reduced from the maximum to minimum value.展开更多

Maritime transport plays a vital role in world economy; whereas competition between maritime companies is fierce [1], at the same time agreements of co-operation have taken different forms including alliances and mergers between companies to increase their market share. But competitions still stand despite all alliances even in same market. This intense competition drives companies to attain high level of competitiveness, by monitoring ship's operating performance and operating cost, emphasis on improving performance and reduce cost. On other hand new environmental regulations come to light, expansion of ECA (emission control areas), which lead to significant higher fuel cost when using low sulfur fuel. Since the fuel cost is the largest portion of the operating cost of the vessel, a saving in fuel usage can result in considerable saving in operational costs. Furthermore, fuel saving has environmental benefits in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The aim of this paper is to investigate the role of trim optimization which considers one of the easiest and cheapest methods for ship performance optimization and fuel consumption reduction trim optimization.展开更多

Over the years, the transport became linked to different environmental problems, which can be detached greenhouse gases emissions in the atmosphere, where in recent decades can be perceived the intensification and targeting of efforts in research and development of new technologies to reduce the levels of greenhouse gases emissions in the atmosphere. In this context, it can be highlighted the modem systems of electronic engine management, new automotive catalysts and the use of renewable fuels which contribute to reducing the environmental impact. This research had, as its purpose, the analysis of fuels characteristics used for testing, comparative analysis of gas emissions from a motor vehicle running on ethanol or natural gas fuels according to NBR 6601 and conducting tests to estimate the maximum catalytic efficiency. For the implementation of trial, a flex vehicle was installed in a chassis dynamometer equipped with a gas analyzer, in order that before the completion of the urban driving cycle, were determined the content of hydrocarbons corrected, carbon monoxide corrected, carbon dioxide and oxygen present in gas emissions from the engine. The research concluded that: the performance analysis for characterization of fuel showed consistent with ANP specifications; after tests performances, it can be stated that natural gas fuel was the fuel which had the highest content of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide corrected, while ethanol had the highest amount of carbon dioxide and oxygen residue present in gas emissions; before a comparative analysis, the vehicle catalyst showed the best performance for reducing the content of hydrocarbon corrected present in exhaustion gases when it worked with natural gas fuel and showed maximum efficiency of 100% to reduce the content of carbon monoxide corrected for both fuels. Before this, it can be stated that the vehicle catalyst showed satisfactory performance, achieving good reduction levels of greenhouse gases emissions.展开更多

Potential effects are listed for those integrated energy-saving technologies for conventional vehicles. Low carbon transitions, including alternative vehicle power train systems and fuels, are discussed on their development status and trends, including life cycle primary fossil energy use and greenhouse gas emissions of each pathway. To further support the low-carbon vehicle technologies development, integrated policies should seek to: (1) employ those integrated energy-saving technologies, (2) apply hybrid electric technology, (3) commercialize electric vehicles through battery technology innovation, (4) support fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen technology R&D for future potential applications, (5) boost the R&D of second generation biofuel technology, and (6) conduct further research on applying low-carbon technologies including CO2 capture and storage technology to coal-based transportation solutions.展开更多

Main flue gas decarbonization technologies and their prospective of applications in China are discussed in two separate parts-capture and sequestration. It is stated that the selection of CO2 capture and sequestration technologies relates closely with the geographical location of power plants, with the destination of CO2 being the key. Further, it is suggested that industrialized test centers or test platforms of national or industrial level should be set up.展开更多

One solution is lean premixed combustion. However, the problem is that large excess air ratio may make the combustion unstable. A novel combustor with circumferential reverse flow of fuel gas is proposed for settling this problem. A 10 kw furnace is established to test performance of this combustor. Three factors such as primary air ratio, position of secondary air, total excess air ratio are studied. The emission characteristics and axial flame temperature distribution are studied. Basing on experimental results, the axial flame temperature and NOr emission increase with primary air ratio and axial length of second stream, and decrease with total excess air ratio. When the total excess air ratio is larger than 1.05, the combustor presents a lower temperature field and much lower NOx emission (less than 10 ppm).展开更多
