As part of the effort to develop better technologies to safeguard mines, the use of active barrier systems was investigated at Kloppersbos in South Africa. The system is designed to meet the requirements of the European Standard (EN 14591-4 2007) as well as the Mine Safety Standardisation in the Ministry of Coal Industry, Coal Industrial 1 Standard of the Peoples Republic of China (MT 694-1997). From the tests conducted, it can be concluded that the ExploSpot System was successful in stopping flame propagation for both methane and methane and coal dust hybrid explosions when ammonium phosphate powder was used as the suppression material. The use of this barrier will provide coal mine management with an additional explosion control close to the point of ignition and may find application within longwall faces further protecting mines against the risk of an explosion propagating throughout a mine.展开更多

Garwin, 1994) to monitor possible events. Many discrimination criteria (Xu Shaoxie, et al.,1994; Institute of Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1976; Richard L. Garwin, 1994) have been put forward since the 1950s. The results show that each of the existing criteria has its own limitation, but the seismological method is an important and efficient method in the discrimination between nuclear explosion and earthquake. Especially in recent years, because of the little and little equivalent as well as the increasing hiding steps used in the test, a number of more efficient seismological methods have been worked out. In this paper, a new discrimination method, the Wavelet Packet Component Ratio (WPCR) method, is put forward. This method makes full use of the difference in variation with time between the spectra of nuclear explosions and earthquakes. Its discrimination efficiency is rather high.展开更多

Determination of the transition criteria for the intermittent and continuous disturbance is of importance for the penetration calculation of the escaping jet and the design of ERA(explosive reactive armour). In this paper a new criteria was presented based on the analysis of interaction process, and the effects of NATO angle and thickness of flying plate on the disturbance frequency were discussed. It is shown that the critical shaped charge jet velocity increases with the plate thickness and NATO angle, especially increases drastically between 45° and 60°.展开更多

Scaling laws for UNDEX in centrifuge have been proposed based on dimensional analysis. Two dimensionless numbers, i.e.,π_3 and π_4, are used to characterize shock wave and bubble oscillation, respectively. To validate scaling laws, 17 UNDEX tests are designed by varying accelerations or explosive weights and positions in centrifuge. The tests are classified into different groups to validate scaling laws as well as calibrate coefficients in empirical formulae for both shock wave and bubble oscillation. The results show that changes of gravity acceleration or hydrodynamic pressure almost has no influence on shock wave peak pressure and time constant as long as π3 is constant. The dimensionless bubble period and maximum radius agreed with each other when π4 is constant. Based on the research, an example is exhibited to suggest method for the computation of initial loading conditions for a submerged obstacle subjected to UNDEX.展开更多
