Sheet metal forming,as a typical energy-intensive process,consumes massive energy.Due to the significant difference between sheet metal forming and machining,manufacturers still lack an effective method to monitor and...Sheet metal forming,as a typical energy-intensive process,consumes massive energy.Due to the significant difference between sheet metal forming and machining,manufacturers still lack an effective method to monitor and analyze the energy efficiency in the sheet metal forming workshop.To this end,an energy efficiency monitoring and analysis(EEMA)method,which is supported by Internet of Things(IoT),is proposed.The characteristics in a forming workshop are first analyzed,and then the architecture of the method is expatiated-detailedly.Energy efficiency indicators at machine level,process level,and workshop level are defined,respectively.Finally,a sheet metal forming workshop for the deformation of panels of forklift was investigated to validate the effectiveness and benefits of the proposed method.With the application of the IoT-enabled method,various energy-saving decisions can be made by the management of the enterprises for energy efficiency improvement and energy consumption reduction(EEIECR)in the sheet metal forming workshop.展开更多

Electrolysis is power-hungry with high demand fr...Hydrogen fuel cell cars are now available for lease and for sale. Renewable hydrogen fuel can be produced from water via electrolysis, or from biomass via gasification. Electrolysis is power-hungry with high demand from solar or wind power. Gasification, however, can be energy self-sufficient using a recently-patented thermochemical conversion technology known as I-HPG (indirectly-heated pyrolytic gasification). I-HPG produces a tar-free syngas from non-food woody biomass. This means the balance of plant can be small, so the overall system is economical at modest sizes. This makes it possible to produce renewable hydrogen from local agricultural residues; sufficient to create distributed refueling stations wherever there is feedstock. This work describes the specifics of a novel bio-hydrogen refueling station whereby the syngas produced has much of the hydrogen extracted with the remainder powering a generator to provide the electric power to the I-HPG system. Thus the system runs continuously. When paired with another new technology, moderate-pressure storage of hydrogen in porous silicon, there is the potential to also power the refueling operation. Such systems can be operated independently. It is even possible to design an energy self-sufficient farm where all electric power, heat, and hydrogen fuel is produced from the non-food residues of agricultural operations. No water is required, and the carbon footprint is negative, or at least neutral.展开更多

In the preliminary design stage of high-speed train smart suspension,a simple,yet accurate magnetorheological(MR)damper model whose parameters have clear physical meaning is needed.Based on the working mechanism analy...In the preliminary design stage of high-speed train smart suspension,a simple,yet accurate magnetorheological(MR)damper model whose parameters have clear physical meaning is needed.Based on the working mechanism analysis and the dynamic behavior study of the MR damper,a new consecutive viscoelastic plastics(VEP)model is proposed.A methodology to find the parameters of the proposed model directly has been proposed.The comparison with experimental results indicates that the proposed model could adequately characterize the intrinsic nonlinear behavior of the MR damper,including the hysteretic behavior,roll-off phenomenon,and the variation of the hysteresis width in terms of the frequency and magnitude of excitation.The results of experimental testing prove that the accuracy of the proposed model is higher than that of the phenomenological model while only containing four undetermined parameters with clear physical meaning.Moreover,based on the proposed VEP model,a nonlinear stiffness VEP(nkVEP)model is developed with higher precision in the hysteretic region.The nkVEP model,which can reproduce the behavior of the damper with fluctuating input current,is developed.The proposed model could predict accurately the response of the MR damper in a wide range of frequency and displacement.展开更多
