Studies in the coastal area of Bohai Bay,China,from July 2006 to October 2007,suggest that the method of meiofaunal biomass estimation affected the meiofaunal analysis.Conventional estimation methods that use a unique...Studies in the coastal area of Bohai Bay,China,from July 2006 to October 2007,suggest that the method of meiofaunal biomass estimation affected the meiofaunal analysis.Conventional estimation methods that use a unique mean individual weight value for nematodes to calculate total biomass may cause deviation of the results.A modified estimation method,named the Subsection Count Method (SCM),was also used to calculate meiofaunal biomass.This entails only a slight increase in workload but generates results of greater accuracy.Results gained using each of these two methods were compared in the present study.The results show that the conventional method generally estimates a meiofaunal biomass.The difference between the two estimation methods was highly significant (P<0.01) for the spring and winter cruises.Furthermore,the estimation method for meiofaunal biomass affected the analysis of horizontal distribution and correlation with environmental factors.These findings highlight the importance of estimation methods for meiofaunal biomass and will hopefully stimulate further investigation and discussion of the topic.展开更多
D,L-lactide was prepared from D,L-lactic acid by means of polymerization and depolymerization at low vacuum level.Morpholine-2,5-dione(MD) was synthesized from the cyclization of chloroacetyl glycine which was made fr...D,L-lactide was prepared from D,L-lactic acid by means of polymerization and depolymerization at low vacuum level.Morpholine-2,5-dione(MD) was synthesized from the cyclization of chloroacetyl glycine which was made from chloroacetyl chloride and glycine in the basic condition.A novel copolymer(PLAMD) with D,L-lactide(D,L-LA) and morpholine-2,5-dione(MD) was synthesized using stannous octoate as initiator,and characterized with FT-IR and 1HNMR.The biocompatibility of PLAMD and PLA was investigated by MTT and microscope.The results show that amino acid is introduced into PDLLA main chain.PLAMD has better cell affinity than PLA,so it is a promising biomaterial.展开更多
A series of new benzimidazole derivatives was synthesized and characterized by IR,1H NMR,13C NMR,MS,and HRMS spectra.All the new compounds were screened for their antimicrobial activities in vitro by a twofold serial ...A series of new benzimidazole derivatives was synthesized and characterized by IR,1H NMR,13C NMR,MS,and HRMS spectra.All the new compounds were screened for their antimicrobial activities in vitro by a twofold serial dilution technique.The bioactive evaluation showed that 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl benzimidazoles were comparably or even more strongly antibacterial and antifungal than the reference drugs Chloromycin,Norfloxacin,and Fluconazole.The combination of2,4-difluorobenzyl benzimidazole derivative 5l and its hydrochloride 7 respectively with the antibacterials Chloromycin,Norfloxacin,and the antifungal Fluconazole was more sensitive to methicillin-resistant MRSA and Fluconazole-insensitive A.flavus.In addition,the interaction of compound 5l with calf thymus DNA demonstrated that this compound could effectively intercalate into DNA to form a compound 5l-DNA complex that might block DNA replication and thereby exert good antimicrobial activity.展开更多
Biodegradable magnesium(Mg)-based vascular stents have been designed as temporary scaffolds to treat angiostenotic lesions for the maintenance of normal blood flow.Numerous studies have presented in vitro and in viv...Biodegradable magnesium(Mg)-based vascular stents have been designed as temporary scaffolds to treat angiostenotic lesions for the maintenance of normal blood flow.Numerous studies have presented in vitro and in vivo tests for the evaluation of the safety and feasibility of Mg-based vascular stents and the related materials. Therein the cytocompatibility is a basic and important parameter in the evaluation system. In this review, we summarize the applications and limitations of in vitro evaluation methods including basic characterization methods and direct and indirect cytotoxicity tests. We discuss the influencing factors on cytotoxicity, such as surface roughness, preconditioning of sample surface, cell type for the biocompatibility evaluation in direct contact as well as conditions for the formation of extracts/degradation products for indirect assays. Besides, we highlight the recent in vivo animal tests and clinical trials about Mgbased stents along with some associated results. The aim of this review is to provide a meaningful reference in the further developments and related evaluation methods of Mg-based stents.展开更多
