The tropical Andean dominion is considered one of the most significant places in the world as regards biological diversity, with a very high level of endemism. The biodiversity was analysed in an isolated remnant area of a tropical montane cloud forest known as the "Bosque de Neblina de Cuyas", in the North of the Peruvian Andean range. Composition, structure and dead wood were measured or estimated. The values obtained were compared with other cloud forests. The study revealed a high level of forest biodiversity, although the level of biodiversity differs from one area to another: in the inner areas, where human pressure is almost inexistent, the biodiversity values increase. The high species richness and the low dominance among species bear testimony to this montane cloud forest as a real enclave of biodiversity.展开更多

AIM: To find a novel antigen (Ag) presentation strategy to improve the immune responses induced by dendritic cell (DC)vaccine expressing hepatitis C virus (HCV) core antigen (pcDNA3HCV C-Fc) in Balb/c mice (H-2d).METH...AIM: To find a novel antigen (Ag) presentation strategy to improve the immune responses induced by dendritic cell (DC)vaccine expressing hepatitis C virus (HCV) core antigen (pcDNA3HCV C-Fc) in Balb/c mice (H-2d).METHODS: pcDNA3HCV C-Fc plasmid and eukaryotic expression vector pcDNA3 were injected into mice sc. Immune responses to pcDNA3HCV C-Fc were studied. Meanwhile the effect of pcDNA3HCV C-Fc on anti-translated subcutaneous tumor of SP2/0 cells stably expressing HCV C Ag (SP2/0-HCV C-FC) was also studied. Anti-HCV C in serum was detected by enzyme-linked immunoadsordent assay (ELISA) and HCV specific cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activity was measured by LDH release assay. After 3 wk of DNA immunization,the cells of SP2/0-HCV C-FC were inoculated into mice subcutaneously and tumor growth was measured every 5 d.The survival rate and living time of mice were also calculated.RESULTS: After 4 wk of DC immunization, the A450 nm values of sera in mice immunized with pcDNA3HCV C-Fc-DC and pcDNA3-DC were 0.56±0.17 and 0.12±0.03 respectively. The antibody titres in mice codeliveried with pcDNA3HCV C-Fc with DC were significantly higher than those of mice injected with pcDNA3-DC. The HCV specific CTL activities in mice coinjected with DC and pcDNA3HCV C-Fc or empty expression vectors were(73.2±3.1) % and (24.4±8.8) %, which were significantly higher than those of mice injected with water.The DC vaccine could evidently inhibit tumor growth, prolong the survival time of mice and improve the survival rate of mice and these effects could be improved by HCV C-Fc (pcDNA3HCV C-Fc) gene codelivered.CONCLUSION: DC vaccine has a strong antigenicity in humoral and cellular immunities, which can be promoted by transduced pcDNA3HCV C-Fc expressing HCV C or Fc.Thus, pcDNA3HCV C-Fc-transduced DCs may be a promising candidate for a CTL-based vaccine against HCV.展开更多
This paper, using the method of "the combination of 14 o'clock relative humidity, visibility and weather phenomena", selected haze days during 1980-2012 from 13 stations of Hubei Province, and studied ye...This paper, using the method of "the combination of 14 o'clock relative humidity, visibility and weather phenomena", selected haze days during 1980-2012 from 13 stations of Hubei Province, and studied years of variation characteristics of haze weather in Hubei Province. The results showed that the average annual haze days showed a fluctuant rising trend in whole from 1980 to 2012, but there were many peak value and valley value during the whole changing process; haze days of most stations showed an increasing trend, among which the stations with less than50 d haze days had a more obvious increasing trend, and the spatial distribution of annual mean haze days had distinct inhomogeneity. Haze days of Hubei Province presented the distribution characteristics of more in autumn and winter, and less in spring and summer, in which haze days during December-January were the most,and haze days during July-August were the least. Terrain had a big impact on local haze days, piedmont leeward zones were prone to haze days, mountainous regions were just the opposite. The research suggested that we should combine different situations with different stations instead of exclusively from the mean value of multiple stations when we analyze the mean change of haze days in a broader area, to investigate the overall changing trend and the reasons.展开更多

It is demonstrated that Wittgenstein applied two methods of study. Changes in his philosophy are correlated with modifications in his method of thinking and investigation. In his Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, the only correct method is logical proposition analysis. In the early 1930s, he transformed his philosophy into a phenomenological description of experience, defining its aim as the development of phenomenological language. After 1933, Wittgenstein recognised the grammatical dimension of language and created tools of grammatical analysis. He introduced the notions of language-games and life forms. His philosophy turned into morphology and a description of human language practice.展开更多
Direct numerical simulation was carried out to investigate the correlation between the momentum and passive scalar transfer in a turbulent channel flow with Re_(τ)=u_(τ)δ/ν=180 and Pr=0.71,where u_(τ)is the frict...Direct numerical simulation was carried out to investigate the correlation between the momentum and passive scalar transfer in a turbulent channel flow with Re_(τ)=u_(τ)δ/ν=180 and Pr=0.71,where u_(τ)is the friction velocity,δis the channel half width,andνis the kinematic viscosity.The one-point and two-point energy transfer and the corresponding scalar transfer are of particular interest.There is a significant positive correlation between the one-point energy and scalar transfer,particularly near the wall,and the correlation between the two production terms is always larger than that between the other terms.By resorting to the Karman-Howarth-Monin-Hill equation and the scale-by-scale scalar transfer budget equation,we explored the two-point energy and scalar transfer at two different vertical locations(i.e.,one location close to the wall y^(+)=10 and the other location slightly away from the wall y^(+)=60).An inverse interscale transfer phenomenon of the energy and scalar is observed in the spanwise direction at y^(+)=10,which is caused by the corresponding streak stretching,whereas along the streamwise and the vertical directions a forward interscale energy and scalar transfer phenomenon is observed.The physical mechanisms(e.g.,production,dissipation,and viscous diffusion terms)contributing to the two-point energy transfer closely resemble those in the two-point scalar transfer.The intrinsic correlation between both the two-point energy and scalar transfer can find its roots in the similarity between the momentum and scalar streaks.展开更多

We will show that this interesting but counterintuitive phenomenon is caused by the rotational asymmetry of the nonmaximally entangled state in the measurement plane. This asymmetry allows the both-side detection probabilities and the one-side detection probabilities obtain their maximal values with nonmaximally entangled state. But the maximal Bell violation may not always happen on nonmaximally entangled state, because these probabilities will compete with each other, and the Bell violation behaves differently for various CH-type inequalities.展开更多
