One of the best solutions for both issues is to improve energy efficiency. To improve energy efficiency, it is commonly recognized by both standards and energy sectors that Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) could play an important role . China and the USA, the top two energy consumption countries in the world, both have adopted MEPS program to address the problem of energy conservation and environmental protection. This paper analyzes and compares the two countries' MEPS programs from a historical and legal context, examining the role of different stakeholders in the process, the process, the outcomes by standards, and then makes some recommendations for both sides.展开更多

Some of them have been described in more details of solving the most common problems. In addressing these challenges, using advanced information technology plays a huge role. In this respect, the paper provides information about new technologies used in the country to protect the environment and about international projects involving a State Committee on land and cartography of Azerbaijan Republic.展开更多

The essence of this behavior is innovation. The theory of innovation in economics, management, sociology, oriental management, and related disciplines provided methodology for the development of tourism resources and pointed out the direction. With the development of tourism, the cruise economy has grown and the urban economy has been rapidly developed and improved. However, while cruise tourism brings economic benefits, the discharge of various waste water and exhaust gas from cruise ships of major cruise companies also brings about some environmental pollution problems. Therefore, the environmental protection issue of cruise tourism companies is a sustainable development issue. Persisting in sustainable development strategy, we attach importance to the environmental governance of the cruise tourism industry.展开更多

"Eco-[inguistics" (EL) also called "Ecology of Language" emerges in the situation that scholars try their best to solve the problems in linguistics. As an emerging interdisciplinary area of ecology and linguistics, eco-linguistics aims at analyzing the ecological phenomenon in language, exploring the relation between language and environment, and looking for the variety of internal patterns of language. At present, scholars at home have made a lot of achievements with the tendency from theoretical studies to practical studies. On the theoretical framework of eco-linguistics and the transitivity method of Systemic Functional Linguistics(SFL), by analyzing two texts excerpted from BBC news reports which involve two kinds of animals, this article tries to explore the relation between human and animals and our attitudes toward different animals, analyze the ecological elements and hidden non-ecological features in the discourses, reveal the essential reasons for ecological disruption---inherent human ideology, interpret the influences on nature. We expect that people pay more attention to the issues of environment protection, change anthropocentrism to ecocentrism which builds the harmonious relation between human and nature.展开更多

It is divided into three parts. In Part 1 I like to give a synoptic view of contemporary environmentalism, as reflected in Arne Naess's Deep Ecology. In Part 2 I make an exposition of the Bhumisukta, particularly those verses (mantras) which are directly relevant to our environmental concerns. To say the truth, this Bhumisukta (also called the Pcthivisitkta) epitomizes the Vedic Hindu eco-culture. The Bhumisukta (which literally means, the Hymn or Prayer to the Earth) is the oldest and the most evocative environmental discourse. It is called "the first natural anthem" in the history of mankind. It constitutes the first anuvgtka of dvgtda~ kgm. da of the Atharvaveda and contains 63 verses (mantras) devoted to glorifying the Earth as sacred and inviolable. Many prayers have been sung for the preservation and conservation of Nature and its gifts of splendor. The Bh^misftkta talks about human dependence on the Nature and respect for the same that follows naturally. It proclaims of the Earth as the mother, and humanity as her children Bhumisukta, putro'ham pr. thivyah" In Part 3 1 like to make a brief but critical observation regarding the loss of continuity of Vedic tradition in view of an objection made by some Western environmentalists. In this concluding part I like to respond to the objection that so called eco-sensitive cultures could not avert environmental pollution and depletion of Nature in countries, like India.展开更多

In scope, the environmental policies include pollution control policies, ecological conservation policies and basic international environmental policies which should be considered based on the following aspects. (1) The urban environment issue possibly emerges in the urban inside and outside interactions, thus the government to the ecological environment must pay attention to the sector coordination, and even must global footprint from the national and criterion consideration. (2) Environmental protection is not only adapted to the needs of the environment through the transformation, but stressed that ecological construction, that is, to promote the coordination between mankind and the natural environment. At the same time we will have to face severe environmental issues in the future. This is evident in forming the elements of earth, air, and water which reflect the human influence on organic and inorganic life. So, it is timely significant to pay attention on environmental preservation and management. The main purpose of this study is to explore how the Buddhist teaching could be used for environmental preservation and management. Accordingly, this study introduces a suitable long term environmental preservation model. The other objectives of this study are to learn Buddhism for environmental preservation and management, to create a new model which combines man and environment together, to compare Buddhist thinking and modem man's thinking regarding environmental preservation and management through the above and, to motivate man to preserve environment in through both direct and indirect ways. This study was based on the question whether the Buddhist philosophical teaching could be utilized to solve today's environmental issues? The hypothesis was that the Buddhist philosophical teaching could be utilized for environmental preservation and management. For this purpose, the teachings of Buddha, related to environmental preservation as found in "Suttapil;aka" and "Vinayapi!;aka" were studied. In order to address these conditions we have subjected randomly collected information for interpretation and comparative analysis in qualitative research methodology. The content that has been analyzed is compared with the ethical code related to the patterns of human behavior and its relation to conservation. This has also given way to building some models related to the Buddhist teaching of environmental preservation. The objective of Buddhist philosophy is to generate sensitivity in the mind, of human beings and persuade them to preserve organic and inorganic environment, based on the view "Man is a creation of the environment". The Buddhist philosophical process of environmental preservation includes preserving flora and fauna, water, air, soil as well as garbage disposal. These elements, along with ethics, can be used in effective environment preservation. This new model of environmental preservation directs human beings towards sustainable development with a realistic vision. The Buddhist teaching on environment civilizes man's physical and spiritual behaviors, with a view to lead human beings towards environmental preservation with a realistic perspective.展开更多

Findings revealed that: despite the positive attitude shown by students towards environmental education, a relatively low level of understanding of environmental concept was recorded in school settings regardless of efforts by government and other environmental agencies at creating awareness about environmental related issues. This brought about the investigation of students' environmental education knowledge in high school settings. About 205 students were randomly selected for data collection using validated instruments titled student's knowledge and attitude questionnaire as well as student's response to questions (interview) concerning global warming. T-test statistics, chi-square and simple percentage were the major statistical tools employed in data analysis. This study revealed that environment based-education (school curriculum) as well as efforts by government/environmental agencies (mass media) plays a major role in promoting students' understanding, of environmental concepts, awareness of major environmental issues and positive attitude towards natural environment.展开更多
