Obvious BSR characteristics will be shown on seismic profiles, if there exist natural gas hydrates. The AVO method is one of the methods which can be used to identify and forecast lithologic characteristics and fluid properties by using the relationship between Amplitude and Offset. AVO anomaly is one of the significant signs to check out whether or not there is free gas below the BSR, so it can be used to detect natural gas hydrates from the seismic profile. Considering the geological and geophysical characteristics of the Okinawa Trough and making use of the techniques mentioned above, we can conclude that the conditions there are favorable for the formation and concentration of natural gas hydrates. By analyzing the data collected from the study area, one can discover many different anomalous phenomena on the seismic profile which are related to the existence of natural gas hydrates. Preliminary estimation of the natural gas hydrates in the Okinawa Trough shows that the trough is rich in natural gas hydrates and may become a potential important resources exploration area.展开更多

One aim of geophysical inversion is to recover information about the smooth structures as well as about the sharp discontinuities. Because no specific operator can provide a perfect sparse representation of complicated geological models, hyper-parameter regularization inversion based on the iterative split Bregman method was used to recover the features of both smooth and sharp geological structures. A novel preconditioned matrix was proposed, which counteracted the natural decay of the sensitivity matrix and its inverse matrix was calculated easily. Application of the algorithm to synthetic data produces density models that are good representations of the designed models. The results show that the algorithm proposed is feasible and effective.展开更多

Various techniques of monitoring exist. Among all, the control of ground deformations and variations in sea level has considerable importance. Time series of ground deformation and tidal data in this area have been analysed to highlight these important geophysical features and these results are compared with those obtained from similar data in other time periods. With regard to first mentioned, tiltmetric data have been analysed. These ones come from the tiltmeter network sited in Pozzuoli. Instead, the tidal data come from the tide gauge in Pozzuoli. Data have been analysed by means of a wavelet approach, using a Continuos Wavelet Transform and using, as so-called "Wavelet Mother", a Gabor-Morlet wavelet. For each time series, the principal harmonic constituents result: lunar semidiurnal (M2), solar semidiumal (S2) and lunar diurnal (K1). Other harmonic constituents, having frequencies higher than 1/hour, are present. These last ones could be interpreted as seiches and they could be linked up with generation of discrete plumes of rising magma. Frequencies at which there is the occurrence of these seiches are in agreement with previous studies.展开更多

The method is based on the principle of tomography with Earthquake as a source of the signal and receiver stations on the surface. The wave propagation in solid media is described by a system of three strongly coupled hyperbolic equations with piece - wise constant coefitients. The characteristic set and hi-characteristic curves of this system are computed in a homogeneous half-space with free boundary and the formulae of reflection and diffraction of the hi-characteristics on the internal boundaries of the media. Applications of the characteristic set and bi-eharacteristic curves for the inverse problem in geophysics and Earth modelling are given.展开更多
