The results showed that the Tianshifu soil conditioner, soil bacterial conditioner and the combination of Tian- shifu soil conditioner and soil bacterial conditioner all could promote rice growth, im- prove rice yield and reduce significantly Cd content in rice grains. In Beishan, the Cd contents in rice grains treated by Tianshifu soil conditioner, soil bacterial condi- tioner and the combination of Tianshifu soil conditioner and soil bacterial conditioner were reduced by 37.63% (P〈0.05), 32.59% (P〈0.05) and 27.95% (P〈0.05) respec- tively compared with that in rice grains treated by conventional fertilization; In Xiang- tan, the Cd contents in rice grains were reduced by 54.36% (P〈0.05), 50.19% (P〈 0.05) and 45.22% (P〈0.05) respectively. The rice grains harvested at the two test sites all met the national food safety standards. Considering the control effect on Cd contamination, Tianshifu soil conditioner 〉 combination of Tianshifu soil condi- tioner and soil bacterial conditioner 〉 Tianshifu soil bacterial conditioner. In addition to reducing Cd absorption in rice, as described in the lime application treatment, the application of Tianshifu soil conditioners also inhibited the transportation of Cd from rice straws to rice grains. The Tianshifu soil conditioner, soil bacterial conditioner and combination of Tianshifu soil conditioner and soil bacterial conditioner also effec- tively improved the soil acidity, increased the soil pH value and reduced soil avail- able Cd content to some extent.展开更多

Research suggests that teacher made instructional design decisions can lead to enhanced motor skill learning. After presenting a model of evidence-based research this paper presents information that will help teachers plan and execute lessons designed to improve students' motor skills. Variables that impact motor skill learning in physical education including time, type of practice, content, presentation and organizational strategies, and student skill level are presented and discussed. A brief section on student attitudes, their relation to motor skill learning and to physical literacy is included. Motor skills are needed for physically literate people to enjoy lifelong physical activity. Physical education teachers and the decisions they make contribute to students' learning and whether the goal of physical literacy is met.展开更多

This article used a sample of 162 French banks over the period from 2005 to 2012. By using three different tests (loss-avoidance, just-meeting-or-beating prior year's earnings, and abnormal loan loss provision), the findings of this paper show that both high auditor reputation and qualified audit opinion constrain earnings management to avoid loss or to just meet or beat prior year's earnings in banks. In separate tests related to earnings management through abnormal loan loss provisions, the paper also finds that high auditor reputation constrains earnings management. Qualified audit opinion has a negative but non-significant effect on abnormal loan loss provisions.展开更多

A sequence of three activities with the support of software Fathom was presented to the teachers in a course to investigate about the reasoning that teachers develop about the data analysis, particularly about the distribution concept, that involves important concepts such as averages, variability and graphics representations. The design of the activities was planned so that the teachers analyzed quantitative variables separately first, and later made an analysis of a qualitative variable versus a quantitative variable with the objective of establishing comparisons between distributions and use concepts as averages, variability, shape and outliers. The instructions in each activity indicated to the teachers to use all the resources of the software that were necessary to make the complete analysis and respond to certain questions that pretended to capture the type of representations they used to answer. The results indicate that despite the abundance of representations provided by the software, teachers focu,; on the calculation of averages to describe and compare distributions, rather than on the important properties of data such as variability, :shape and outliers. Many teachers were able to build interesting graphs reflecting important properties of the data, but cannot use them 1:o support data analysis. Hence, it is necessary to extend the teachers' understanding on data analysis so they can take advantage of the cognitive potential that computer tools to offer.展开更多

Semi-structured interviews were conducted online with some student teachers (n = 10) and teacher educators (n = 10) at the university to identify their personal viewpoints, experiences and concerns regarding integrating the Internet into this teacher education context. For triangulation purposes, content analysis was conducted on 12 online documents. Results reveal some difficulties, challenges and concerns related to the process and some new forms of literacy needed for this context. Based on this, some guidelines are suggested for integrating the Internet into pre-service EFL teacher education programmes with special reference to the Egyptian context.展开更多
