The different characteristics of polarization of body and Rayleigh waves make it possible to separate these two types of waves by their characteristics and suppress the latter.The moving time-window analysis often is ...The different characteristics of polarization of body and Rayleigh waves make it possible to separate these two types of waves by their characteristics and suppress the latter.The moving time-window analysis often is used in polarization filtering but it is difficult to determine a suitable time-window length,resulting in some problems,such as complex eigenvalues and non-convergence.For overcoming these disadvantages,in this paper,we introduce the concept of complex-trace analysis and conduct de-noise processing to suppress undesirable surface waves by instantaneous polarization analysis in the case of horizontal and vertical component seismic recordings from the Hauinan coal mine.The performance of the method is illustrated by examples with synthetic and field data and its effectiveness to remove surface waves from multi-component seismic data is demonstrated.展开更多

The temporal-spatial variability of SOC stockswas determined in a basin of over 579 km^2...In global change research, changes of soil organic carbon (SOC) reservoirs intropical and subtropical regions are still unknown. The temporal-spatial variability of SOC stockswas determined in a basin of over 579 km^2 in subtropical China from 1981to 2002. ArcGIS8.l softwarewas utilized for spatial analysis of semivariance, ordinary kriging (OK), and probability kriging(PK). Grid and hierarchical approaches were employed for the sampling scenario in 2002 with 106Global Position System (GPS) established spots sampled. Bulk topsoil samples (0—30 cm) werecollected at three random sites on each spot. The SOC content for 1981 came from the SOC map of theSecond National Soil Survey. Geostatistical results of the nugget to sill ratio (0.215-0.640)in therehabilitating ecosystem indicated a moderate spatial dependence for SOC on this large scale. Therange of SOC changed from 2.04 km in 1981 to 7.15 km in 2002. The mean topsoil SOC increased by 4.6%from 10.63 g kg^(-1) (1981) to 11.12 g kg^(-1)(2002). However, during this 21-year period 25.2% ofthe total basin area experienced a decrease in SOC. Also, the probability kriging results showedthat the geometric mean probabilities of SOC <= 6.0 g kg^(-1), <= 11.0 g kg^(-1) and > 15.0 gkg^(-1) were 0.188, 0.534 and 0.378, respectively in 2002, comparing to 0.234, 0.416 and 0.234 inthat order in 1981, respectively. The SOC storage in the topsoil increased by 17.0% during this timewith the main increase occurring in forests and cultivated land,which amounted to 82.5% and 17.0%of the total increase, respectively.展开更多

Usually, a finite size buffer is needed at the transmitter to match instant channel capacity with the source data stream. This paper is focused on the queuing process in the buffer. The temporal characteristics of the queueing process in the buffer are investigated, for a buffer-aided communication over block Rayleigh fading channel, in the low signal- to-noise ratio regime. Particularly, the average absorbing time for the buffer to transfer from empty state to overflow sate and from overflow state to empty state, as well as the stable working time in which neither buffer empty nor buffer overflow happens are derived. Theoretical and numerical results show that increasing the buffer size and traffic load properly will improve the efficiency of the transmission.展开更多

However, true-color imaging of SWCNTs on substrates has not been reported, because of th...Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) illuminated by white light should appear colored due to resonance Rayleigh scattering. However, true-color imaging of SWCNTs on substrates has not been reported, because of the extremely low scattering intensity of SWCNTs and the strong substrate scattering. Here we show that Rayleigh scattering can be greatly enhanced by the interface dipole enhancement effect. Consequently colorful SWCNTs on substrates can be directly imaged under an optical microscope by wide field supercontinuum laser illumination, which facilitates high throughput chirality assignment of individual SWCNTs. This approach, termed "Rayleigh imaging microscopy", is not restricted to SWCNTs, but widely applicable to a variety of nanomaterials, which enables the colorful nanoworld to be explored under optical microscopes.展开更多
Experiments were conducted to study the temperature field,flow field,3-D characteristics and self-sustained oscillation of the natural air convection in a 3-D shallow cavity which was heated from underneath. The exper...Experiments were conducted to study the temperature field,flow field,3-D characteristics and self-sustained oscillation of the natural air convection in a 3-D shallow cavity which was heated from underneath. The experiments were conducted by the methods of laser holographic interferometry photography and smoke visualization. To ensure the temperature of both plates to be constant and the accuracy of laser interferometer,the instrument was calibrated and error has was analyzed. The results showed that the flow field was stable at lower Rayleigh numbers. When the Rayleigh number increased,the flow field became instable and the isotherms distorted. The rolls merged at Ra=12500 and formed along both axes when Ra was over 18500. The air rose from the middle and descended in the circumference while the flow field and heat transfer converted to 3-D characteristic from 2-D characteristic. When the Rayleigh number increased,the flow field became more instable. The rolls became irregular and time dependent when Ra≥Rac(=30500) ,which is nonlinear. When lateral walls were heated or cooled,the rolls merged along the long axis and two rolls formed along the short axis. Three rolls formed occasionally in the process.展开更多
