The powders of Mo2FeB2 cermet were prepared with Mo powders, Fe-B alloy powders and Fe powders as raw materials. Mo2FeB2 cermet coatings were prepared on Q235 steel by reactive thermal spraying (RTS) method and heat... The powders of Mo2FeB2 cermet were prepared with Mo powders, Fe-B alloy powders and Fe powders as raw materials. Mo2FeB2 cermet coatings were prepared on Q235 steel by reactive thermal spraying (RTS) method and heated at 1 000 ℃ in vacuum oven of 1 kPa for 5 h. The properties of coatings were investigated. The results indicate that Fe2B appears after milling for 15 h in the powder at room temperature, a part of ternary borides (Mo2FeB2) are generated in powder sintered at 900 ℃. The coatings are composed of the major phases Mo2FeB2 and a-Fe, a little of Fe203, FeO and some pores. The bonding strength between the substrate and the ceramic coating is 32.73 MPa, the thermal-shock times is about 43 and the wear resistance is enhanced by approximately 5.28 times compared with that of the substrate, respectively. The comprehensive properties of Mo2FeB2 cermet coatings can be imoroved further after vacuum heat-treatment at 1 000 ℃ for 5 h. 展开更多

TiN-matrix composite coating was prepared on 45# steel by reactive high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying. Its microstructure, phase composition, micro-hardness, corrosion resistance in 3.5% NaC1 solution and wear resistance were analyzed. The results suggest that the TiN-matrix composite coating is well bonded with the substrate. The micro-hardness measured decreases with the increase of applied test loads. And the micro-hardness of the coating under heavy loads is relatively high. The TiN-matrix composite coating exhibits an excellent corrosion resistance in 3.5% NaC1 solution. The corrosion potential of coating is positive and the passivation zone is broad, which indicates that the TiN-matrix composite coating is stable in the electrolyte and provides excellent protection to the substrate. The wear coefficient of the coating under all loads maintains at 0.49-0.50. The wear mechanism of the coating is revealed to be three-body abrasive wear. Yet the failure forms of TiN-matrix composite coating under different loads have an obvious difference. The failure form of coating under light loads is particle spallation due to the stress concentration while that of coating under heavy loads is crackin~ between inter-lamellae. 展开更多

Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) ceramic coatings were fabricated in a silicate-based electrolyte with the addition of potassium fluorozirconate (K2ZrF6) on 6063 aluminum alloy, and the effects of current density on microstructure and properties of the PEO coatings were studied. It was found that pore density of the coatings decreased with increasing the current density. The tribological and hardness tests suggested that the ceramic coating produced under the current density of 15 A/dm2showed the best mechanical property, which matched well with the phase analysis. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization curves proved that the coating obtained under 15 A/dm2 displayed the best anti-corrosion property, which was directly connected with morphologies of coatings. 展开更多

Al2O3-13%TiO2 (mass fraction) coatings, prepared by laser cladding on nickel-based alloy, were heated using high frequency induction sources. The coating microstructure and the interface between bond coating and ceramic coating were characterized by SEM, XRD and EDS. The results show that two-layer substructure exists in the ceramic coating: one layer evolving from fully melted region where the sintered grains grow fully; another layer resembling the liquid-phase-sintered structure consisting of three-dimensional net where the melted Al2O3 particles are embedded in the TiO2-rich matrix. The mechanism of the two-layer substructure formation is also explained in terms of the melting and flattening behavior of the powders during laser cladding processing. The spinel compounds NiAl2O4 and acicular compounds Cr2O3 are discovered in the interface between bond coating and ceramic coating. It proves that the chemical reactions in the laser cladding process will significantly enhance the coating adhesion. 展开更多

The Ni-based alloy composite coatings reinforced by nanostructured Al2O3-40%TiO2 multiphase ceramic particles were prepared on the surface of 7005 aluminum alloy by plasma spray technology. The microstructure and tribological properties of the composite coatings were researched. The results show that the composite coatings mainly consist of γ-Ni, α-Al2O3, γ-Al2O3 and rutile-TiO2 etc, and exhibit lower friction coefficients and wear losses than the Ni-based alloy coatings at different loads and speeds. The composite coating bears low contact stress at 3 N and its wear mechanism is micro-cutting wear. As loads increase to 6-12 N, the contact stress is higher than the elastic limit stress of worn surface, and the wear mechanisms change into multi-plastic deformation wear, micro-brittle fracture wear and abrasive wear. With the increase of speeds, the contact temperature of worn surface increases. The composite coating experiences multi-plastic deformation wear, fatigue wear and adhesive wear. 展开更多

Plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO) was developed as a bond coat for air plasma sprayed(APS) nanostructure ZrO2 as top coat to enhance the corrosion resistance and antibacterial activity of Mg alloy. Corrosion behavior and antibacterial activities of coated and uncoated samples were assessed by electrochemical tests and agar diffusion method toward Escherichia coli(E. coli) bacterial pathogens, respectively. The lowest corrosion current density and the highest charge transfer resistance, phase angle and impedance modulus were observed for PEO/nano-ZrO2 coated sample compared with those of PEO coated and bare Mg alloys. Nano-ZrO2 top coat which has completely sealed PEO bond coat is able to considerably delay aggressive ions transportation towards Mg alloy surface and significantly enhances corrosion resistance of Mg alloy in simulated body fluid(SBF) solution. Moreover, higher antibacterial activity was also observed in PEO/nano-ZrO2 coating against bacterial strains than that of the PEO coated and bare Mg alloys. This observation was attributed to the presence of ZrO2 nanoparticles which decelerate E. coli growth as a result of E. coli membranes. 展开更多

This work is focused on developing zinc-doped hydroxyapatite-zeolite(Zn HA-Zeo)and polycaprolactone(PCL)composite coatings on magnesium(Mg)substrate to improve the corrosion resistance and antimicrobial properties.Dip-coating technique was used to coat Zn HA-Zeo/PCL on the Mg substrate at room temperature.The samples were subjected to field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX)and antimicrobial potential.Results demonstrated that composite coatings consist of HA,scholzite,zeolite,and PCL phases.EDX spectra indicated the presence of calcium(Ca),silicon(Si),aluminum(Al),zinc(Zn),phosphorus(P)and oxygen(O).The composite surface appeared in spherical-like microstructure on coating with thickness ranging 226-260μm.Zinc-doped HA-Zeo composite coating had a high corrosion resistance and provided sufficient protection to the Mg surface against galvanic corrosion.Doped Zn HA-Zeo coating samples exhibited superior disc inhibition by confirming antimicrobial activity against the E.coli as compared to HA-Zeo sample.Altogether these results showed that the Zn HA-Zeo coatings not only improved the corrosion resistance,but also enhanced the antimicrobial property and hence they can be used as suitable candidates for implant applications. 展开更多

The corrosion resistance of the micro-arc oxidation(MAO) ceramic coating on a cast Al-13Si-5Cu alloy was investigated using various electrochemical methods including electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) and polarization curves.Microstructures of MAO ceramic coating were studied by SEM,and the influence of microscopic patterns on corrosion resistance was analyzed.The corrosion resistance of the aluminum alloy can be improved significantly by MAO process owing to increasing impedance and corrosion potential and decreasing corrosion current,and the ceramic coatings are composed of loose layer,compact layer and transition layer,which improve the corrosion resistance.The corrosin resistance is determined by the thickness of the compact layer and is not proportional to the total thickness of MAO,though the latter is one of the important factors influencing the corrosin resistance. 展开更多

In order to improve the wear resistance and high temperature oxidation resistance of titanium and titanium alloy, the high temperature ultra fine ceramic coating containing nano-size nickel particles was prepared by flow coat method on the surface of industrially pure titanium TB1-0. The effects of nano-size nickel particles on the wear resistance and high temperature oxidation resistance of coating substrate system were investigated through oxidation kinetics experiment and wear resistance test. The morphologies of the specimens were examined by means of optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The results show that the high temperature ultra fine ceramic coating has notable protection effect on industrially pure titanium TB1-0 from oxidation. The oxidation and wear resistance properties of the coating can be effectively improved by adding nano-size nickel particles. The oxidative mass gain of the specimen decreases from 11.33 mg·cm-2 to 5.25 mg·cm-2 and the friction coefficient decreases from 1.1 to 0.6 by adding nano-size nickel particles, and the coating containing 10% (mass fraction) nano-size nickel shows the optimum properties. 展开更多

In the present work,TiAlN coatings were deposited on Ti(C,N)-based cermet substrates by physical vapor deposition method.Emphasis was focused on the influence of grain size of cermet substrates on the microstructure,growth behavior,mechanical properties,adhesion strength and wear behavior of the coatings.The results show that finer Ti(C,N)grain size leads to higher nucleation density and lower growth rate of coatings,indicating the crystallite size of the TiAlN coatings decreases with decreasing Ti(C,N)grain size.Nanoindentation tests show that the coatings deposited on cermets of the finest grain size exhibit the highest hardness(H),elastic modulus(E),H/E and H3/E2 of 34.5 GPa,433.2 GPa,0.080 and 0.22,respectively.The adhesion strength between coating and substrate is also enhanced with decreasing Ti(C,N)grain size by scratch test,which corresponds to the grain size and H/E and H3/E2 of the coating.Besides,the lower surface roughness and better mechanical properties of the coating deposited on finer grained cermet contribute to the better wear resistance of the coating. 展开更多

The thermal properties of a thermal barrier coating (TBC) system comprised of BaO-MgO-SiO_2 based glass-ceramic bond coating, 8% (mass fraction) yttria stabilized zirconia (8YSZ) top coating and nimonic alloy substrate were evaluated. The thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity of the TBC coated substrate were lower than those of bare substrate and glass-ceramic coated substrate under identical conditions. The specific heat capacity, thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity of the TBC coated substrate increase with the increase of the temperature. Further, it is observed that the thermal conductivity of the TBC system decreases with the increase in the top coating thickness. 展开更多

Abstract: An effective approach was conducted for estimating fracture toughness using the crack opening displacement (COD) method for plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) coating materials. For this evaluation, an elastoplastic analysis was used to estimate critical COD values for single edge notched bending (SENB) specimens. The relationship between fracture toughness (Kic) and critical COD for SENB specimens was obtained. Microstructure of the interface between AleO3-TiO2 composite ceramic coatings and AISI 1045 steel substrates was studied by using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Chemical compositions were clarified by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The results show that the interface between of Al203-TiO2 and substrate has mechanical combining. The nanohardness of the coatings can reach 1 200 GPa examined by nanoindentation. The Klc was calculated according to this relationship from critical COD. The bending process produces a significant relationship of COD independent of the axial force applied. Fractographic analysis was conducted to determine the crack length. From the physical analysis of nanoindentation curves, the elastic modulus of 1045/AI2O3-TiO2 is 180 GPa for the 50 μm film. The highest value of fracture toughness for 1045/A1203-TiO2-250 μm is 348 MPa·mv2. 展开更多

The experimental results show that the mechanical efficiency and power output are enhanced by 4% and 2.6%, respectively, with fuel consumption reduced by (2.9%.) Numerical simulation and experimental study of the Vickers indentation testing of the Al2O3 ceramic coated by diamond-like carbon(DLC) layer were conducted.The numerical analysis was implemented by a two-dimensional finite element(FE) axis symmetry model.FE analysis results gave insight into the fracture mechanism of DLC films coated on brittle ceramic(Al2O3) substrates.The maximum principal stress field was used to locate the most expected area for crack formation and propagation during the Vickers indentation testing.The results show that the median crack initiates in the interface under indenter,before ring crack occurs as the indenter presses down.Finally,the plastic deformation appears when the indenter penetrates into the substrate.The thicker DLC coating increases the Vickers hardness and fracture toughness. 展开更多

This paper presents an overview of the safety performance of the major existing pipeline transmission system in Canada, USA and Europe. The article deals the experience of Georgia in the development of pipeline transport. The information on the distribution of catastrophic failures and incidents per individual cause is given. The role of corrosion in these failures is considered. To ensure efficient and reliable operations of oil and gas pipelines, the new compositions of competitive cost effective protective pipe enamel coatings have been developed. 展开更多

A combined process of molten salt electro-deoxidation and vacuum hot-pressing sintering was proposed to prepare AlCrFeNiTi_(x) high-entropy alloy(HEA)-TiN ceramic coating composites on low-carbon steel surfaces,where nitrides were introduced from BN isolater between graphite mold and HEA powders.The effect of Ti content on the microstructure,ultimate tensile strength,hardness,and wear resistance of the composites was investigated,and the bonding mechanism was elucidated.Results demonstrate that the composites have excellent hardness and wear resistance.The hardness of composites is significantly increased with the increase in Ti content.The extremely high wear resistance is attributed to the extremely high melting point and high thermal hardness of TiN,which can effectively prevent oxidation deformation of the worn surface. 展开更多
