In this study, PAC-Fe(Ⅲ) was prepared and utilized for the fast and efficient removal of MCs from water. PAC-Fe(Ⅲ) exhibited superior microcystin-LR(MC-LR) removal capacity and efficiency compared to the unmodified PAC. The MC-LR removal efficiency of PAC-Fe(Ⅲ) increased with decreasing p H within the pH range of 4.3 to 9.6. PAC-Fe(Ⅲ) could be reused for 3 times by methanol elution while the MC-LR removal efficiency was still over 70 percent. The removal efficiency was positively correlated to the ionic strength of water and negatively correlated to alkalinity. Natural organic matter(NOM) such as humic acid(HA) and salicylic acid(SA) generated low interference with MC-LR adsorption by PAC-Fe(Ⅲ). Thermodynamic calculations indicate that AlCl(g) generated by carbothermo-chlorination process among Al2O3-C-AlCl3 system should be at 1377-1 900K (100 Pa) and AlCl(g) will disproportionate into aluminum and AlCl3(g) below 950-1 050 K at 10-102 Pa. Experimental results demonstrate that Al4O4C and Al4C3 begin to be formed by Al2O3-C system over 1698 K (40-150Pa). It is Al4O4C and Al4C3 but not Al2O3-C that participate in the carbothermic-chlorination reaction. Beyond the calcium influx into synapse through voltage gated calcium channels (VGCCs) and N-methyl-D-aspartate (NNMDA) receptors, the function of calcium released from internal store in mediating inter-synaptic cross-talk has barely been modeled. This work investigates how different sources of calcium contribute to inter-synaptic cross-talk and synaptic clustering. Based on experimental observations, we developed a mathematical model in one dimensional system with uniform distribution of spines with the connected dendrite. We modeled the biophysical process of calcium induced calcium release (CICR) in the dendritic smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER). Our model compared distinct roles of calcium diffusion, back propagated action potentials (bAPs) and CICR played in synaptic clustering and inter-synaptic cross-talk. The simulation result demonstrated that calcium signal extruded from spine into dendrite requires amplification by CICR before invading neighboring spines to induce plasticity. Our model predicted that initial calcium concentration in SER may discriminate between different types of neuronal activity and induce completely different synaptic potentiation and depression.展开更多

Chemical industries already use so-called "white biotechnology" for new processes, new raw materials, and more sustainable use of resources. Synthetic biology is also used for the devel- opment of second-generation biofuels and for harvesting the sun's energy with the help of tailor-made microorganisms or biometrically designed catalysts. The market potential for bionics in medicine, en- gineering processes, and DNA storage is huge. "Moonshot" projects are already aggressively focusing on diseases and new materials, and a US-led competition is currently underway with the aim of creating a thousand new molecules. This article describes a timeline that starts with current projects and then moves on to code engineering projects and their implications, artificial DNA, signaling molecules, and biological circuitry. Beyond these projects, one of the next frontiers in bionics is the design of synthetic metabolisms that include artificial food chains and foods, and the bioengineering of raw materials; all of which will lead to new insights into biological principles. Bioengineering will be an innovation motor just as digitalization is today. This article discusses pertinent examples of bioengineering, particularly the use of alternative carbon-based biofuels and the techniques and perils of cell modification. Big data, analytics, and massive storage are important factors in this next frontier. Although synthetic biology will be as pervasive and transformative in the next 50 years as digitization and the Intemet are today, its ap- plications and impacts are still in nascent stages. This article provides a general taxonomy in which the development of bioengineering is classified in five stages (DNA analysis, bio-circuits, minimal genomes, protocells, xenobiology) from the familiar to the unknown, with implications for safety and security, in- dustrial development, and the development of bioengineering and biotechnology as an interdisciplinary field. Ethical issues and the importance of a public debate about the consequences of bionics and syn- thetic biology are discussed.展开更多

In this study, the gene encoding a NPY receptor-like from the common Chinese cuttlefish Sepiella japonica( SjNPYR-like) was identified and characterized. The full-length SjNPYR-like cDNA was cloned containing a 492-bp of 5′ untranslated region(UTR), 1 182 bp open reading frame(ORF) encoding a protein of 393 amino acid residues, and 228 bp of 3′ UTR. The putative protein was predicted to have a molecular weight of 45.54 kDa and an isoelectric point(pI) of 8.13. By informatic analyses, SjNPYR-like was identified as belonging to the class A G protein coupled receptor(GPCR) family(the rhodopsin-type). The amino acid sequence contained 12 potential phosphorylation sites and five predicted N-linked glycosylation sites. Multiple sequence alignment and 3D structure modeling were conducted to clarify SjNPYR bioinformatics characteristics. Phylogenetic analysis identifies it as an NPYR with identity of 33% to Lymnaea stagnalis NPFR. Transmembrane properties of SjNPYR-like were demonstrated in vitro using HEK293 cells and the p EGFP-N1 plasmid. Relative quantifi cation of SjNPYR-like mRNA level confi rmed a high level expression and broad distribution of SjNPYR-like in various tissues of female S. japonica. In addition, the transcriptional profile of SjNPYR-like in the brain, liver, and ovary during gonadal development was analyzed. The results provide basic understanding on the molecular characteristics of SjNPYR-like and its potentially physical functions.展开更多

It is found that stochastic calcium oscillations occur when the internal noise is considered, while the corresponding deterministic dynamics only yields a steady state. Also,. the performance of such oscillations shows two maxima with the variation of the system size, indicating the occurrence of system size resonance. This behavior is found to be intimately connected with the canard phenomenon. Interestingly, it is also found that one of the optimal system sizes matches well with the real cell size, and such a match is robust to the variation of the control parameters.展开更多

Edible insect's traditional cultural food, commonly consumed in rural communities, now intake is also being incorporated in some countries. Grasshoppers comprise proteins, the building blocks of AA (amino acids), that are one of the five classes of complex biomolecules found in cells and tissues that play an important role in human metabolism and nutrition. This research was conducted to determine proximal composition of Sphenarium purpurascens Ch, grasshoppers, focused on proteins and AA. Sampling was performed during autumn, 2013, in Oaxaca State. Dry raw adult insects were ground and proceeded to macro molecules proximal analysis, protein by Kjeldahl AOAC (Association of Official Analytical Chemists) method and essential AA in a Beckman 6300 equipment. Obtained data were: total proteins 71.56%; lipids 8.14%; minerals 3.52%; fiber 7.48%; soluble carbohydrates 9.30%. Essential AA (mg/16 g-N): isoleucine 4.5; leucine 8.1; lysine 5.4; methionine + cysteine 5.1; phenylalanine + tyrosine 8.5; threonine 3.5; tryptophan 0.6; valine 5.5. Sphenarium purpurascens Ch, Grasshoppers represent a good source of proteins and essential AA that can grow almost everywhere, available mostly all year round and affordable to all social groups, thus being a good option to improve human health.展开更多

The camel milk plays a vital role in the food of the Algerian nomads in the Sahara. During February and September, 20 samples of the raw camel's milk were taken starting from different livestock of camels from three different Sahariennes regions (Bechar, EI-Bayadh and Naama). These 20 collected samples were analyzed by physico-chemical and microbiological methods. The results of physicochemical analyze obtained from two hot and cold seasons are respectively the following: T ~C (35.83 and 33.95), pH (6.36 and 6.49), density (1.031 and 1.032), dornic acidity (18.6 and 18.3 ~D), dry matter (93.4 and 144.8 g/L), fat contents (30 and 52.1 g/L), total protein (26.3 and 33.1 g/L) and ashes (7.46 and 8.66 g/L). The protein profile obtained by electrophoretic analysis (SDS-PAGE) showed that camel milk contains several types of proteins and some have a molecular weight identical to major proteins of the cow's milk. The final results showed that camel milk has generally a comparable composition to that of bovine milk. The microbiological analysis, of these samples, detected a significant number of the total microflora, Staphylococcus aureus and total coliforms. The absence of Clostridium and fecal coliforms was observed. Several species of lactic acid bacteria were detected such as Lactococcus lactis subsp, lactis, Lactococcus lactis subsp, lactis biovar, diacetylactis, Weissella cibaria and Enteroccocusfeacalis.展开更多

As equilibrium conversion can be approached in a fluidized bed reactor, a reliable thermodynamic analysis is very important. However, inconsistent thermodynamic analysis results have been reported in the lit- erature. The present work studied the effects of thermodynamic data and species selection, and recommended that JANAF was the best Cp data source and the minimum set of species included the following eight species: H2, HCI, SiC[4, SiCl2, SiHCI3, SiH2CI2, SiH3C] and Si. Then, the influence of operating conditions on the equilibrium was studied. For the SiHC|3-H2 system, both the yield of silicon and selectivity to silicon reached their maximum at (up to 1100 ℃), and low pressure and high H2 feed ratio were of benefit for silicon production. For the SiHCI3- SiCI4-H2 system, silicon could be produced only at 900-1400 ℃, and reducing pressure and increasing H2 feed ratio enhanced the yield of silicon. Meanwhile, the operation map for zero net by-production of SiCI4 by directly recycling the produced SiCl4 was determined.展开更多

The colourless bifunctional dye in film or solution exhibits unusual photochromism through structural and geometrical transformation from spirobenzopyran to merocyanine accompanying with photocrosslinking reaction in cinnamoyl moieties. Two kinds of photochemical reaction were achieved by irradiation at the different wavelengths of monochrome UV light (275 nm, 365 nm) selectively. The photochromic process of the bifunctional dye was discussed and the dynamic behaviors of the decolorization process were investigated.展开更多

Methods. Ultracentrifugation, chromatography, manual Edman degradation and autos equence techniques were used to prepare and phosphorylate human recombinant 蚲, isolate and purify 32P 蚲 peptides and determine phosphorylation sites. Results. Phosphorylation of 蚲 by casein kinase 1 (CK 1), cyclic AMP dependent protein kinase (PKA) and glycogen synthetase kinase 3 (GSK 3) separately inhi bited its biological activity and the inhibition of this activity by GSK 3 was significantly increased if 蚲 was prephosphorylated by CK 1 or PKA. The most po tent inhibition was seen by a combined phosphorylation of 蚲 with PKA and GSK 3 . The treatment of 蚲 by PKA and GSK 3 combination induced phosphorylation of 蚲 at Ser 195, Ser 198, Ser 199, Ser 202, Thr 205, Thr 231, Ser 235, Ser 262, Ser 356, Ser 404, whereas Thr 181, Ser 184, Ser 262, Ser 356 and Se r 400 were phosphorylated by GSK 3 alone under the same condition. Conclusion. Phosphorylation of 蚲 by PKA plus GSK 3 at Thr 205 might play a ke y role in 蚲 pathology in AD.展开更多

Paten...Scientific research on snow avalanches is relatively modem, yet in constant and rapid evolution, as the multiple disciplines involved in its development will, in turn, become more specialized and more technical. Patents are part of research and knowledge production. The scientific community and policy makers are increasingly interested in production of knowledge collaboratively. Almost all of the research being conducted on snow avalanches uses technology, technique or instrumentation. One main objective of this study is to draw from the literature the many technologies, techniques and instrumentations that are being used in research related to avalanches. Thus, a textual analysis of the most significant literature in the field of snow avalanches was done. In this analysis, techniques, technologies and instrumentations have emerged. A patent search has been done in databases. Subsequently, patents were conceptualized. The proportion of applicants for patents is higher in industry than in universities. The measure of exploration of the ongoing sociocognitive transformations of science and technology systems presents a useful tool to conduct a study to explore these transformations. It would be interesting for the scientific community, but also for the industry, to elaborate concept mapping when applied to avalanche research, which would help in determining referents.展开更多

Our model predicted that initial calcium concentration in SER may discriminate between different types of neuronal activity and induce completely different synaptic potentiation and depression.

文摘Bionics (the imitation or abstraction of the "inventions" of nature) and, to an even greater extent, syn- thetic biology, will be as relevant to engineering development and industry as the silicon chip was over the last 50 years. Ethical issues and the importance of a public debate about the consequences of bionics and syn- thetic biology are discussed.

文摘Neuropeptide Y(NPY) has a pivotal role in the regulation of many physiological processes. The results provide basic understanding on the molecular characteristics of SjNPYR-like and its potentially physical functions.

文摘The influence of internal noise on the calcium oscillations is studied. Interestingly, it is also found that one of the optimal system sizes matches well with the real cell size, and such a match is robust to the variation of the control parameters.
文摘Protein malnutrition is quite common worldwide; its deficiency has adverse effects in all organs. Sphenarium purpurascens Ch, Grasshoppers represent a good source of proteins and essential AA that can grow almost everywhere, available mostly all year round and affordable to all social groups, thus being a good option to improve human health.
文摘The dromedary camel (Camelus dromedarius) is a significant socioeconomic importance in several arid and semi-arid regions of North Africa and Middle East, and its milk constitutes an important component of human diets in these regions. Several species of lactic acid bacteria were detected such as Lactococcus lactis subsp, lactis, Lactococcus lactis subsp, lactis biovar, diacetylactis, Weissella cibaria and Enteroccocusfeacalis.
文摘In order to determine and assess the concentrations of trace elements in coral reefs sediments from Red Sea of Yemen, sediment samples were collected, treated and analyzed for cadmium, chromium, cobalt, copper, manganese, nickel, lead, iron, zinc and vanadium by the atomic absorption spectrometric analysis. The result is that cadmium, cobalt and lead concentrations were high and other elements are low or the same as natural background. It is concluded that the high cadmium, cobalt and lead levels in coral reefs sediments will have negative effects on marine life of the sites, so further researches are needed to characterize the sources fate, biogeochemical processes and impacts of these trace elements on coral reefs and marine of the region.

文摘Production of polysilicon by chemical vapor deposition of SiHCI3 with a fluidized bed reactor is a competitive technology. Meanwhile, the operation map for zero net by-production of SiCI4 by directly recycling the produced SiCl4 was determined.
文摘A novel bifunctional dye containing spirobenzopyran and cinnamoyl moiety has been prepared and its photochromic behavior following irradiation at different wavelengths of monochrome UV light was investigated. The photochromic process of the bifunctional dye was discussed and the dynamic behaviors of the decolorization process were investigated.
文摘To explore the association between the abnormal phosphorylation sites found in Alzheimer disease (AD) 蚲 and the inhibition of its biological activit y. Conclusion. Phosphorylation of 蚲 by PKA plus GSK 3 at Thr 205 might play a ke y role in 蚲 pathology in AD.
文摘Scientific research on snow avalanches is relatively modem, yet in constant and rapid evolution, as the multiple disciplines involved in its development will, in turn, become more specialized and more technical. It would be interesting for the scientific community, but also for the industry, to elaborate concept mapping when applied to avalanche research, which would help in determining referents.
