These ecological costs are incorporated in an iterative ultimate pit optimization algorithm. A case study is presented to demonstrate the influence of ecological costs on pit design outcome. The results show that it is possible to internalize ecological costs in mine designs. The pit optimization outcome shifts considerably to the conservative side and the profitability decreases substantially when ecological costs are accounted for.展开更多

[Method] GEO was extracted from ginger roots by supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) method. The effects of flow rate of CO2, mesh size of ginger powder and volume of entrainer were investigated by single-factor experiments and response surface method. The content and extraction rate of 6-gingerol represented the extraction index of GEO. [Result] The conditions were optimized as follows: flow rate of CO2 at 25 L/h, mesh size of ginger power of 80 mesh, and volume of anhydrous ethanol as entrainer of 92.46 ml. The optimal extraction rate of 6-gingerol was 3.21%, which was predicted by RSM. [Conclusion] The optimal process of supercritical carbon dioxide extraction of ginger essential oil was identified by singlefactor experiments and response surface method. The present study provides a satisfactory method for purifying GEO from ginger for industrial purpose.展开更多

For encoding the logistic pattern on each stage, the Pruefer number is used. With theimproved decoding procedure, any Pruefer number produced stochastically can be decoded to a feasiblelogistic pattern, which can match with the capacities of the nodes of the logistic system. Withthese two innovations, a new modeling method based on parameterized interface distribution and thePriifer number coding is put forward. The corresponding genetic algorithm, named as PIP-GA, can findbetter solutions and require less computational time than st-GA. Although requiring a little moreconsumption of memory, PIP-GA is still an efficient and robust method in the modeling andoptimization of unbalanced multi-stage logistic systems.展开更多

First, the classic Delaunay method is coupled with simplified advancing front technique (AFT) to obtain the boundary mesh. Then, advancing front high quality point placement is used to generate internal points with optimal positions and a Delaunay method is used to insert them efficiently. Finally, optimization procedures are used for mesh quality improvements. Several application examples are presented to demonstrate the robustness and efficiency of the proposed meshing scheme.展开更多

The effects of the extraction pressure, temperature, CO2 flow rate and particle size of raw material on the extraction rate are investigated, and the optimum process conditions of supercritical CO2 extraction are determined. A mathematical simulation model is established based on the mass conservation in differential units of extraction bed. The total mass transfer driving force and the equilibrium absorption constant are evaluated by the linear driving force theory. The results from numerical simulation agree well with the experimental data.展开更多

The Qiang ethnic minority could be dated back to the Shang Dynasty (ca. 1600-1046BC). The long-standing Qiang culture is an important part of those brilliant Chinese cultures. The Qiang’s traditional dress and adornment is an integral part of the Qiang culture, appreciating unique ethnic characteristics and cultural meanings. Being against the backdrop of promoting cultural diversity nowadays, this paper makes a brief introduction to the Qiang’s traditional dress and adornment and gives an explanation of their rich unique cultural meanings so as to present the Qiang’s traditional dress and adornment to the world, facilitate their going out to the world and communication with other cultures in the world, and enrich the world’s ethnic cultures.展开更多

Because of its enormous emission rate, carbon dioxide (CO2) is the main culprit. Almost all the anthropogenic CO2 emissions come from the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, and transportation. Emissions of COg can be reduced by conservation, increased use of renewable energy sources, and increased efficiencies in both the production of electrical power and the transportation sector. Capture of CO2 can be accomplished with wet scrubbing, dry sorption, or biogenic fixation. After CO2 is captured, it must be transported either as a liquid or a supercritical fluid, which realistically can only be accomplished by pipeline or ship. Final disposal of CO2 will either be to underground reservoirs or to the ocean; at present, the underground option seems to be the only viable one. Various strategies and technologies involved with reduction of CO2 emissions and carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) are briefly reviewed in this paper.展开更多

What are the implications of introducing the element of cultural literacy into the teaching of world literature, and how might culturally contextualizing the narrative enhance the reading experience for those who may not be familiar with the national culture that produced the work? This paper examines these questions using as a case study The Tale of Genji (n.d.), a novel from llth century Japan and "La Troisi6me Jeunesse de Madame Prune" (1905), a French text set in Japan at the turn of the 20th century. Using examples taken from each writer's text, the author will show how a knowledge of both the target culture and the time period in which the work was produced can serve as a critical tool for analyzing the text; the former text shall be used to argue for an integration of a cultural anthropology element into the teaching of world literature, while the latter example shall be used to argue for the importance of contextualizing a text within its historical creation period. In concluding, the author shall examine the ways in which including an element of cultural literacy can lead to a truly interdisciplinary, trans-national, and trans-linguistic understanding of a particular literary text.展开更多

A survey of 256 households from a total of 10 high, medium and low income suburbs and informal settlements was undertaken to assess types and amount of water consumed. This was complemented by a water quality study that assessed a selection of physical, chemical and bacteriological parameters. Quality of the water was compared to World Health Organisation and Zimbabwean standards. All households were found to rely on water sources other than municipal water. Per capita water consumption across settlements was found to be below the recommended upper limit of 50 litres per person per day except in one high income suburb, but above the recommended lower limit of 15 litres. All samples were within the acceptable limit for color but above the acceptable limit for turbidity. Chemical parameters were found to be within the acceptable range except for total hardness, where 35% of the samples were above the acceptable range. About a third of the samples from low income suburbs and informal settlements were above the acceptable limit for faecal and total coliforms.展开更多

In this work, an energetic model was developed to analyze the partial oxidative gasification of biomass(glucose and lignin) in supercritical water and the related key factors on which gasification under autothermal condition depended upon. The results indicated that the oxidant equivalent ratio(ER) should be over 0.3 as the concern about energy balance but less than 0.6 as the concern about fuel gas production. Feedstocks such as glucose and lignin also had different energy recovery efficiency. For materials which can be efficiently gasified, the partial oxidation might be a way for energy based on the combustion of fuel gases. Aromatic materials such as lignin and coal are more potential since partial oxidation could produce similar amount of fuel gases as direct gasification and offer additional energy. Energy recovered pays a key role to achieve an autothermal process. Keeping heat exchanger efficiency above 80% and heat transfer coefficient below15 k J·s-1is necessary to maintain the autothermal status. The results also indicated that the biomass loading should be above 15% but under 20% for an autothermal gasification, since the increase of biomass loading could improve the energy supplied but decrease the efficiency of gasification and gaseous yields. In general, some specific conditions exist among different materials.展开更多

Osugi argued that it was possible to establish a "society of mutual aid" based on the principle of "expansion of life". In his view, the hierarchy meant fixing the boundary and every boundary was an expression and exercise of power. That explains why anarchism is a perpetual movement which attempts to transcend every boundary forming the hierarchy. Osugi aimed at a free and diversified federal society where life is expanded. Osugi's influence stemmed from his articulation of the basic concerns of his generation. That generation confronted difficulties of a different order from those faced by the Meiji leadership. Osugi was attracted to the problem presented by the emerging masses: How could they be incorporated into society? His reply to this question was "mutual aid". This paper focuses on the relation between both notions of freedom and society and analyzes it throwing a light on the principle of "expansion of life" in Osugi's anarchism. Similarly to his contemporaries, it might be helpful to enquire into that principle, in a way that is beneficial to the relation between freedom and society.展开更多

This essay takes a closer look at one of the most remarkable exemptions of the prevailing memory culture at Holocaust memorials: the sites and events highlighting Anne Frank and her short life in troubled times. Over the past years millions of travelers from all over the world have shown a genuine interest in learning about the life world of their young heroine thus creating what has been termed Anne Frank Tourism. In 2014, 1.2 million people visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam: the museum and educational center, the place in hiding where she wrote her now famous and widely read diary. Several other sites connected to the life path of Anne Frank, from her birth place in Frankfurt to the Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp where her life prematurely ended, have also become part of the mostly young tourists' search for Anne Frank's life and legacy. With the rising popularity of Anne Frank related sites the management of some of the locales has become more problematic which is discussed in the context of a several museums, centers and historic sites. On a more general note, it is argued here that in recent years the more group oriented commemoration practices at Holocaust sites have given way to a trend of putting individual faces to the victims of the Holocaust. It was, in particular, novels, films and TV productions about the Holocaust that emphasized individual life paths and events and enticed visitation to more personalized sites. Steven Spielberg's popular movie Schindler's List, for example, contributed to "Schindler tourism", a form of special interest tourism in Krakow. More and more Holocaust memorial sites have also started to honor outstanding individuals or small groups in resistance and opposition to Nazi Germany. Examples of this are the fighters of the 1943 uprising at the Sobibor death camp and the courageous student members of the "White Rose" in Munich who stood up to the powers of the time and were executed. In the concluding part the question will be raised of what is the proper approach in the representation of the fate of the victims of Nazi Germany: A personalized approach or a greater focus on an explanation of the ideology and policies behind the rule of terror which may contribute to the visitors' better understanding of a complex history?展开更多

The density, hardness, transverse flexure strength and toughness of samples were investigated and the model predictions were confirmed by SEM and TEM experimental observations. Results show that SPSed B;C exhibits two sintering periods: a densification period(1800-2000 °C) and a grain growth period(2100-2200 °C). Based on steady-state creep model, densification proceeds by grain boundary sliding and then dislocation-climb-controlled mechanism. Grain growth mechanism is controlled by grain boundary diffusion at 2100 °C,and then governed by volume or liquid-phase diffusion at 2200 °C.展开更多

For patients about to undergo a surgical procedure or to receive chemical therapy, radiation therapy, loss or impairment of fertility is a major issue. So the need for fertility protection and preservation became more intensity. Sperm banking is a standard accepted procedure for males to circumvent loss or damage to spermatozoa. Here we present a successful pregnancy in a testicular germ cell tumor patient following fertility preservation.展开更多

Thus one should assess toxic exposure through food on not only national but also local level. We have developed and distributed a personal questionnaire for estimating average daily consumption of 44 types of foodstuffs, and for 12 of them-the percentage contribution of the main sources of supply. Depending on data analysis results, we choose the most important foodstuffs for determining their chemical contamination. We tested this approach in 7 industrial towns and found differences among them, as well as among children and adults, with regard to toxic exposure through food. People with a relatively high income consume more milk, cheese, meat, fish, poultry and fruit but less bread and potatoes than those with medium or low income. About 80% of consumed potatoes are grown locally and thus depend on each area's contamination. Although daily intakes of toxicants do not exceed WHO tolerable levels, their contribution to the total environmentally dependent dose is important. The approach developed by us can be used in epidemiological and risk assessment studies when they are performed on regional or local level.展开更多

In the concluding part the question will be raised of what is the proper approach in the representation of the fate of the victims of Nazi Germany: A personalized approach or a greater focus on an explanation of the ideology and policies behind the rule of terror which may contribute to the visitors' better understanding of a complex history?

文摘Dense B;C material was fabricated using spark plasma sintering(SPS), and the densification mechanisms and grain growth kinetics were revealed. Grain growth mechanism is controlled by grain boundary diffusion at 2100 °C,and then governed by volume or liquid-phase diffusion at 2200 °C.
文摘The frequency of invasive cancer in young patients is increasing worldwide. Here we present a successful pregnancy in a testicular germ cell tumor patient following fertility preservation.

文摘Interfaces play critical roles in electronic devices and provide great diversity of film morphology and device performance. We retrospect the substrate mediated vacuum film growth of benchmark high mobility material 2,7-dioctyl[1]benzothieno[3,2-b]benzothiophene(C8-BTBT)and the interface electronic structures. The film growth of C8-BTBT molecules is diversified depending on the substrate-molecule and molecule-molecule interactions. On atomic smooth substrates C8-BTBT film grows in layer-by-layer mode while on coarse substrate it grows in islands mode. The initial molecular layer at dielectric, semiconductor and conductive substrates displays slight different lattice structure. The initial molecule orientation depends on the substrate and will gradually change to standing up configuration as in bulk phase.C8-BTBT behaves as electron donor when contacting with dielectric and stable conductive materials. This usually induces a dipole layer pointing to C8-BTBT and an upward bend bending in C8-BTBT side toward the interface.Although it is air stable,C8-BTBT is chemically reactive with some transition metals and compounds. The orientation change from lying down to standing up in the film usually leads to decrease of ionization potential. The article provides insights to the interface physical and chemical processes and suggestions for optimal design and fabrication of C8-BTBT based devices.
文摘In big countries, nutrition profiles and foodstuffs chemical contamination may differ significantly between different regions and even between areas within a region. The approach developed by us can be used in epidemiological and risk assessment studies when they are performed on regional or local level.
文摘Contemporary college students will be the future mainstay of the world and the country. It is significant to accept education of the Olympic culture. While they know the long and broad Olympic culture, they can also inherit the Olympic spirit of mutual understanding, friendship, solidarity and fair competition, know that the world needs to be cleaner, more humane, more united.
